Holy Saturday Epistle & Gospel (2008) St. Elias UGCC
Holy Saturday Epistle & Gospel (2008) St. Elias UGCC
Videographer: Maria-Lynn Turi Reader: Ilya Galadza Deacon: Fr. Deacon Tibor St. Elias Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church On Saturday, a vesperal Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, is celebrated. This is the longest Divine Liturgy of the entire year andprobably the most neglected. After the Little Entrance there are 15 Old Testament readings which recall the history of salvation. Just before the Gospel reading (Matthew 28:1-20) the hangings, altar cloths, and vestments are changed from black to white and the deacon performs a censing of the church. The Vespers of Holy Saturday inaugurates the Paschal celebration, for the liturgical cycle of the day always begins in the evening. In the past, this service constituted the first part of the great Paschal vigil during which the catechumens were baptized in the "baptisterion" and led in procession back into the church for participation in their first Divine Liturgy, the Paschal Eucharist. Later, with the number of catechumens increasing, the first baptismal part of the Paschal celebration was disconnected from the liturgy of the Paschal night and formed our pre-paschal service: Vespers and the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great which follows it. It still keeps all the marks of the early celebration of Pascha as baptismal feast and that of Baptism as Paschal sacrament (death and resurrection with Jesus Christ — Romans 6). On "Lord I call" the Sunday Resurrectional stichira of tone 1 are sung, followed by the special stichiras ...

Pascha (Orthodox Easter) - Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and midnight service
The Orthodox Pascha (Easter) service at Holy Myrrh-bearers Orthodox Church in St. Cloud, MN. Featuring the Good Friday entombment service, Holy Saturday daytime service, and the famous midnight Easter service with the Gospel in many languages. Video and still footage is taken from the 2010 Pascha service. Audio footage is taken from 2009 and 2010 Pascha services. Please pardon the quality, as a good deal of the video footage was recorded using my phone. If you have a fast-enough internet connection, I recommend watching in 480p (high quality) for a better audio and video experience (less compression artifacts). Edited using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. Tenebrae Lesson III (alter tonus) - Holy Saturday
Tenebrae Lesson III (alter tonus) - Holy Saturday
In animábus nostris afferebámus panem nobis, a fácie gládii in desérto. Pellis nostra, quasi clíbanus exústa est a fácie tempestátum famis. Mulíeres in Sion humiliavérunt, et vírgines in civitátibus Juda. Jerúsalem, Jerúsalem, convértere ad Dóminum Deum tuum. Here beginneth the Prayer of Jeremiah the Prophet Remember, O Lord, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach. Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens. We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us. Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest. We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities. Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand. We gat our bread with the ...

The Holy and Great Saturday
The Holy and Great Saturday
---- "Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit." The great Moses mystically foreshadowed this day, when he said: 'God blessed the seventh day.' This is the blessed Sabbath. This is the day of rest; on which the only-begotten Son of God rested from all His works. He kept the Sabbath in the flesh, through the dispensation of death. But on this day, He returned again through the resurrection. He has granted us eternal life, for He alone is good, and the lover of mankind.
