Keihanshin (京阪神?, Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe) is a Japanese metropolitan region encompassing the metropolitan areas of the cities of Osaka in Osaka prefecture, Kobe in Hyōgo Prefecture, and Kyoto in Kyoto prefecture. The entire region has a population (as of 2000) of 18644000 over an area of 11170 km².[2] It is Japan's second most populated urban region after the Greater Tokyo Area, containing approximately 15% of Japan's population. The GDP in this area (Osaka and Kobe) is $341 billion, making it one of the world's most productive regions, a match with Paris and London.[3] Mastercard Worldwide reported that Osaka is the 19th ranking city of the world's leading global cities and has an instrumental role in driving the global economy.[4] The name Keihanshin is constructed by extracting a representative kanji from Kyoto (京都), Osaka (大阪), and Kobe (神戸), but using the On-yomi (Chinese reading) instead of the corresponding Kun-yomi (Japanese reading) for each of the characters taken from Osaka and Kobe, and the kan-on Chinese reading of the character for Kyoto instead of the usual go-on Chinese reading. The Japan Statistics Bureau defines the set of municipalities that are entirely or mostly within 50 kilometers of the Municipal Office of Osaka as one measure of the metropolitan area. As of 2000, the population for this region was 16566704.[5] en.wikipedia.org Keihanshin (jap. 京阪神?) - region zurbanizowany obejmujący zespół miejski Kioto, Osaki i Kobe; część regionu Kansai w ...

MegaCity - Osaka - Japan ビルから見た大阪市
This city of Osaka has about the same overall population of my whole home country of Australia, about 20 000 000 people. Amazing considering Australias total area is 7686848 sq km compared to Osaka City which is 222.30 square kilometres. Below from wiki "Osaka (大阪 Ōsaka?) listen (help·info) is a city in the Kansai region of Japan's main island of Honshu, a designated city under the Local Autonomy Law, the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and also the biggest part of Keihanshin area, which is represented by three major cities of Japan, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe. Located at the mouth of the Yodo River on Osaka Bay, Osaka is the third largest city by population after Tokyo (special wards) and Yokohama. Keihanshin is the second largest area in Japan by population and one of the largest metropolitan areas highly ranked in the world, with nearly 18 million people,[1] and by GDP the second largest area in Japan and the seventh largest area in the world. The ratio between daytime and night time population is 141%, the highest in Japan, highlighting its status as an economic center.[2] Its nighttime population is 2.6 million, the third in the country, but in daytime the population surges to 3.7 million, second only after Tokyo (combining the Special wards of Tokyo, which is not a single incorporated city, for statistical purposes.
