We visited the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Gardens and got a behind the scenes tour the Blue Iguana Recovery Program. The Cayman Blue Iguana is a critically endangered species, with only 15 of them still living when they were first counted back in the late 1980s. A recovery program was immediately started and the population has started to return as a result. The Blue Iguana is only found on Grand Cayman. They have a similar look to the common green iguana, which is an invasive species that was brought to Grand Cayman from Honduras. Fortunately, the presence of the green iguana does not seem to have an adverse effect on the Blue Iguana. Some of the Blue Iguanas I photographed are "free roamers" in the park and some were in enclosures as part of the recovery program.  The New York Times
