The Coca-Cola Company Begins Global Launch
BRoll of PlantBottle PET plastic bottles made partially from plants, which reduces the Companys dependence on a non-renewable resource petroleum. Other benefits are that it is 100 percent recyclable, and preliminary research indicates that from the growing of the plant materials through to the production of the resin, the carbon footprint for the PlantBottle packaging is smaller than bottles made with traditional PET. Globalization & The Coca-Cola Company
In this documentary, our team studied the Coca-Cola Company and how it has been impacted by globalization. Since Coca-Cola was first sold in 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia, it has taken over the globe and now operates in more than two hundred companies. As a team, we discussed how globalization, according to Coke, is known as the Coca-Cola System. This is the manufacturing system that allows Coca-Cola to license to distributors who can incorporate different world markets, resources, and technologies to maximize revenue. The Thomas Friedman definition of globalization discusses the combination of markets, nation-states and technologies and how they are able to extend farther, faster, deeper and cheaper than before. We also discussed how the Coca-Cola system maintains a high level of competition between their distributors to spur innovation. For example, Coca-Cola sells the rights and label to Dasani who in turn is in charge of bottling and distribution. Dasani can then create its own line of products such as flavored Dasani water. Our team also explored the economic impact that the Coca-Cola Company has on the economies of nations worldwide. For example, a recent study has shown that in South Africa one job in the Coca-Cola organization ultimately provides sixteen additional jobs. Global salaries and benefits worldwide increased by 1.2 billion dollars from the years 2005 to 2007. This shows how, through globalization, Coca-Cola has been able to positively impact not only the ...

Coca-Cola helps entrepreneurs set up Micro Distribution Centres
This video charts the trip of some of Coca-Cola's female employees to Tanzania, to see Coca-Cola's Micro Distribution Centres (MDCs). Occasionally called Manual Distribution Centres, these MDCs are an extremely effective way of delivering Coca-Cola products to small shops and businesses who want to sell Coca-Cola. They are fully owned by local entrepreneurs in Africa, and more than 30% of MDCs in Africa are owned and managed by women. They are not run or managed by Coca-Cola, but rather the MDCs own the franchise to work with our bottlers, distributing Coca-Cola products in hard-to-reach areas. Once an MDC is up and running, owners can typically earn monthly revenues of $20-30000 depending on the nature of the area they cover and the time of year, and each one provides income for between 5-7 employees.

Hug Me by Coca Cola at NUS outside LT14
The Coca-Cola Company and Ogilvy & Mather have created the 'Cola-Cola Hug Machine' to bring doses of happiness into the lives of people anywhere and everywhere. This regional initiative, which is part of "Open Happiness", The Coca-Cola Company's global marketing campaign, started in Singapore. People were pleasantly surprised to see a regular-looking Coca-Cola vending machine, with the words "hug me" in large letters on the front. Those bold enough to embrace the machine were rewarded with cans of ice-cold Coca-Cola and left with huge smiles on their faces. "Happiness is contagious. The Coca-Cola Hug Machine is a simple idea to spread some happiness," explained Leonardo O'Grady, ASEAN IMC Director, The Coca-Cola Company. "Our strategy is to deliver doses of happiness in an unexpected, innovative way to engage not only the people present, but the audience at large. "Whether you were hugging the machine or experiencing the event online, our goal was the same - to put a smile on your face and share that emotional connection. Reactions were amazing... people really had fun with it and at one point we had four to five people hugging the machine at the same time as well as each other! In fact, there was a long line of people looking to give hugs -- it was really heartwarming. " "Open Happiness," a global creative campaign launched in 2009, invites people around the world to bring positivity, optimism and fun into their lives. At the core of the campaign the message is for ...

Evguenia Stoichkova: I'm Bulgarian and I'm Franchise Operations Director for The Coca-Cola Company Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Albania. It was an interesting journey getting here. I'm an engineer in geology. Very different of what I'm doing right now. [...] The first difficult decision: after the communism system collapsed, my prospects for future were not very clear. I went to a competition for studying abroad, organized by French Government. [...] I spoke very little French, but I decided to risk it. I went to that competition. Somehow I qualified. :) I was very surprised. I studied in France for a year, in economy. I re-qualified. From there I entered the marketing area. I had little marketing education but I had a lot of willingness to change things. :) One big learning: I saw an opportunity and I took it. This paid out pretty well.[...] I entered in Danone, when Danone entered in the country. I started as trainee; I ended up as a Marketing Manager. I went for 3 years to work in Russia. One big learning: take the risks, go for it. I didn't know the outcome. [...]New experience, new learning, which were paying back [...] I'm a fan of Coke. I've been invited to an interview at Coke. I passed 7 interviews. It was very difficult to take this decision, but I took the risk. I joined Coke as Marketing Manager for Bulgaria. And gradually I started to progress.
