Iran is hoping to convince world powers its nuclear programme serves a peaceful purpose and isn't about making bombs. A new round of talks has begun in Baghdad - with further pressure on Tehran to stop higher-grade uranium enrichment which it's feared could be put to military use. Iran has already tried to ease worsening relations, by tentatively agreeing to new UN inspections of sites which are suspected of involvement in atomic weapons development. But, Washington says there'll be no let-up in the heat on Tehran. Fresh sanctions are expected to hit in just over a month, targeting the country's oil and nuclear sectors, as well as international trade links. Political analyst Chris Bambery says Iran's nuclear programme has become a matter of national pride for its people - which they'll not give up. The French government has agreed to open an inquiry into the death of Yasser Arafat, eight years since he died after claims that he died from Polonium poisoning. Arafat seen here arriving in Belgium on a military helicopter for treatment later died of a supposed massive However, his widow, Suha, and daughter Zawra have consistently claimed that he was poisoned, possibly by Israeli agents. At the request of the Arafat family The Institut de Radiophysique in Lausanne, Switzerland, found high levels of the radioactive element polonium-210 on Arafat's clothing. Which was the same substance used to kill former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko in London in 2006. Arafat, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, was 75 years old when he died. The Palestinian authority welcomed the move saying, "we hope the French investigation will satisfy our desire for truth, and that there will be a serious investigation to reveal the whole truth." And in response to the news, The Arafat family, said they were "happy" with the decision but would not comment further "so as to leave the judges to lead all investigations necessary to find the truth." Hurricane Isaac made landfall this evening in southeastern Louisiana, with winds of 80 mph that spread out over an area 200 miles wide. It was a Category 1 hurricane as it came ashore, and the National Hurricane Center warned of "strong winds and a dangerous storm surge occurring along the northern Gulf Coast." The storm threatened to drop more than a foot of rain -- up to 20 inches in some areas -- from Biloxi, Miss., to New Orleans. The hurricane center said a storm surge -- the bulge of water that a storm pushes ahead of itself -- of 8.8 feet had been measured at Shell Beach, La. Isaac, a massive and slow-moving storm, reached the coastline just a day short of the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Isaac's path is similar to Katrina's and the anniversary has created "a high level of anxiety."
