Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in August 1968 in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario. The band is composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee; guitarist and backing vocalist Alex Lifeson; and drummer, percussionist, and lyricist Neil Peart. The band and its membership went through several reconfigurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving its current lineup when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first United States tour.
Rush is known for its musicianship, complex compositions, and eclectic lyrical motifs drawing heavily on science fiction, fantasy, history, and philosophy. The band's musical style has changed several times over the years, from a blues-inspired hard rock beginning, later moving into progressive rock, and including a period marked by heavy use of synthesizers. In the early 1990s, Rush returned to a guitar-driven hard rock sound, which has continued to the present. The band's latest studio album, Clockwork Angels (2012) won the Album Of The Year Award from Progressive Music Awards. The supporting tour ran from September 2012 to August 2013.

EVERYONE LOVES A GOOD WIKIPEDIA COPYPASTA Rush is the eponymous debut studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1974, and remastered in 1997. Rush's first release shows much of the heavy metal sound typical of many of the popular rock bands emerging from Britain earlier in the decade. Rush were fans of such bands as Led Zeppelin and Cream, and these influences can be heard in most of the songs on this debut. Original Rush drummer John Rutsey performed all drum parts on the album, but was unable to go on extended tours because of diabetes and left the band after the album was released. Rutsey wrote some lyrics for the debut, but never submitted them to the band and some new lyrics had to be thrown together. He was soon replaced by Neil Peart.
"YYZ" is an instrumental rock piece by Canadian rock band Rush, from the 1981 album Moving Pictures. Following its initial release, it became one of the band's most popular pieces and has been a staple of the band's live performances.

LIve on August 1, 2015, on their R40 tour here at the Forum in lovely Los Angeles California, Rush performs "Xanadu" from A FAREWELL TO KINGS and is approximately eleven minutes long, beginning with a five-minute-long instrumental section, then transitioning to a narrative written by Neil Peart, inspired by the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem Kubla Khan. In Peart's lyrics, the narrator describes searching for something called "Xanadu" that will grant him immortality. After succeeding in this quest, a thousand years pass, and the narrator is left "waiting for the world to end," describing himself as "a mad immortal man." Although the song does not explicitly state what "Xanadu" is, references to Kubla Khan imply that it is a mythical place based on the historical summer capital of the Mongol E...

Rush interviewed on The New Music, Toronto in 1980.
This is an audio interview with the former radio journalist Donna Halper about the Rush history. Donna was music director at WMMS in Cleveland in the 1970s. She airplayed the first Rush album when it was released on the band's own Moon Records label in 1974. Rush received more attention that way and got their record deal with Mercury Records. Donna is a friend of Rush since that time. This interview was conducted for the Rock Bottom radio show in Hamburg (Germany).

I wanna be clean but I gotta get high

It's good to be here so hard to come by

You bring pain cause you got game

And needles and pins a man can't take

Peaches living in niches

Digging the scene like beautiful cliches

From these shapes of a gangster lean

Ignoring wars on gasoline

Our god's ???? and made to get high

God's left hand wasn't made to get by

Got more highs left in me

And there's more room in recovery

From evil ??? that strip all chrome

From Marshall Amps into broken homes

And borstal blues to countless clicks

That rhythm sticks to those classic cheques

Steal your tears and drown your fears

All is clear in a glass of beer

Peaches living in niches

Digging the scene like beautiful cliches

You fill me with endorphins

And you star in magazines

We draw liquor from the mattress springs

It ain't over til the last bell rings

Got more highs you and me
