plant Arborvitae. Arborvitae are easy to transplant
Large Arborvitae we grow and deliver. call 215 651 8329 www.seedlingsrus.com http I am often asked if fall is a good time to plant Arborvitae and other tress. Fall is a great time to plant Arborvitae. Arborvitae are easy to transplant in the fall. Most trees and shrubs can be transplanted well into the fall as long as the ground is not frozen. Here at Highland Hill Farm, our ground is dig-able for about 10 months of the year. Only in January and February do the ground temperatures get cold enough to really prevent transplanting of our Arborvitae. If you plant late in the fall, make sure the arborvitae get watered if there is a dry spell during the winter. Otherwise they should be fine. Spring is an easy time to plant these trees. We only our small seedlings in the fields durring the spring. If you have Black Walnut trees consider using Arborvitae. The roots of Black Walnut (Juglans nigra L.) and Butternut (Juglans cinerea L.)are known to produce a substance known as juglone (5-hydroxy-alphanapthaquinone). There are many plants such as blackberry, blueberry, azalea, mountain laurel, rhododendronLarge Arborvitae we grow and deliver. call 215 651 8329 www.seedlingsrus.com http

I'm Worried About America's Nuts
"It's my nuts. I'm worried about my nuts." And so begins a hilarious tromp through misunderstandings between a man concerned about the effects of moving firewood on trees and forests, and the woman he loves. We learn that Steve hasn't been keeping his wood local- instead, he's been dragging his wood all over the place, and who knows what he's been spreading?! In the end, Steve tells us that moving firewood can spread insects and diseases that threaten America's precious nuts...including walnuts, butternuts, acorns and chestnuts. So don't move firewood, and protect your nuts. Learn more about your nuts at www.facebook.com/DontMoveFirewood. Hunts Electric Nutcracker
The hunt's nutcracker, I bought is a great machine 2010 for cracking black walnuts or any hard nuts, and it even got better with a new dayton motor now attached I bought in June. Best black walnut, butternut and hickory nut cracker I have ever owned. It operates smoothly and allows very precise nut cracking. This is an old school device that makes sweet work of a hard job...breaking those hard black american walnuts.

Planting near Walnut Trees Our Suggestions
www.eastpenngardens.com call us for suggestions. The roots do the damage. The roots of Black Walnut and Butternut produce a substance known as juglone. Persian walnut trees are sometimes grafted onto black walnut rootstocks. Many plants such as tomato, potato, blackberry, mountain laurel, rhododendron, blueberry, azalea, red pine and apple may be damaged or killed within one to two months of growth within the root zone of these trees. The toxic area from a mature tree occurs on average in a 60 foot radius from the trunk, but can be up to 80 feet. The area affected extends outward each year as a tree matures. Young trees two to eight feet high can have a root diameter twice the height of the top of the tree, with susceptible plants dead within the root zone and dying at the margins. So select tolerant trees and shrubs if planting near walnut trees.

Shrubs and Trees for Near a Walnut Tree
www.eastpenngardens.com call us at 215 651 8329 Shrubs and Trees for Near a Walnut Tree...Landscape designers should carefully consider the site for black walnut, butternut, or persian walnut seedlings grafted to black walnut rootstock, if other garden or landscape plants are to be grown near the root zone of mature trees. Persian walnut seedlings or trees grafted onto Persian walnut rootstocks seem to have a toxic effect on other plants and shrubs.
