"Burning Up" is a song by American singer-songwriter Madonna from her self-titled debut album. It was released as the album's second single on March 9, 1983, in some countries as a double-A side single with "Physical Attraction". The song was presented as an early recorded demo by Madonna to Sire Records who green-lighted the recording of the single after the first single "Everybody" became a dance hit. Madonna collaborated with Reggie Lucas, who produced the single while John Benitez provided the guitar riffs and backing vocals. Musically, the song incorporates instrumentation from bass guitar, synthesizers and drums, and the lyrics talk of the singer's lack of shame in declaring her passion for her lover.

Released with "Physical Attraction" on the B side, the song was given mixed reviews from contemporary critics and authors, who noted the song's darker, urgent composition while praising its dance beats. The single failed to do well commercially anywhere, except the dance chart in the United States, where it peaked at three, and the Australian charts, where it was a top 20 hit. After a number of live appearances in clubs to promote the single, it was added to the set-list of 1985's The Virgin Tour. An electric guitar version was performed on 2004 Re-Invention World Tour.

The accompanying music video of the song portrayed Madonna in the classic submissive female positions, while writhing in passion on an empty road, for her lover who appeared to come from her behind on a car. The video ended showing Madonna driving the car instead, thereby concluding that she was always in charge. Many authors noted that the "Burning Up" music video was a beginning of Madonna's depiction of her taking control of a destabilized male sexuality.

In 1982, Madonna was living in New York and trying to launch her musical career. Her Detroit boyfriend Steve Bray became the drummer of her band. Abandoning hard-rock, they were signed up by a music management company called Gotham records, and decided to pursue music in the funk genre. But they soon dropped those plans.^[2] Madonna carried rough tapes of three songs with her, namely "Everybody", "Ain't No Big Deal" and "Burning Up". Madonna presented "Everybody" to the DJ Mark Kamins who, after hearing the song, took her to Sire Records and she was signed for a single deal.^[3] When "Everybody" became a dance hit, Sire Records decided to follow up with an album for her. However, Madonna chose not to work with either Bray or Kamins, but opted instead for Warner Brothers producer Reggie Lucas. Michael Rosenblatt, the A&R director of Sire Records, explained to Kamins that they wanted a producer who had more experience in directing singers; hence they appointed Lucas.^[4] He pushed Madonna in a more pop direction and produced "Burning Up" and "Physical Attraction" for her.^[3]

While producing the tracks, Lucas radically changed their structure from the original demo versions. Madonna did not accept the changes, hence John "Jellybean" Benitez, who was a DJ at the Funhouse Disco, was called to remix the tracks.^[3] He came and put some extra guitar riffs and vocals in "Burning Up".^[3] Sire Records backed up the single by sending Madonna for a series of personal appearances in clubs around New York where she performed the single. They also hired a stylist and jewellery designer called Maripol who helped Madonna with the single cover.^[5] The cover for the 12-inch dance single for "Burning Up" was designed by Martin Burgoyne.^[4]

Musically "Burning Up" has a starker arrangement brought about by bass, single guitar and drum machine.^[6] The guitar riffs in the songs were not characteristics of Madonna's later records. The tom-tom drum beats used in the song were reminiscent to the records of singer Phil Collins.^[6] It also incorporated electric guitars and the most state-of-the-art synthesizers of that time.^[7] The chorus is a repetition of the same three lines of the lyrics, while the bridge consists of a series of double entendres in regards to the lyrics of the song which describes what she is prepared to do for her lover and that she is individualistic and shameless.^[6] According to the sheet music published at Musicnotes.com by Alfred Publishing, "Burning Up" is written in the time signature of common time with a dance beat tempo of 138 beats per minute. The song is composed in the key of B minor, with Madonna's vocals ranging from the tonal nodes of A₃ to B₄. "Burning Up" follows a basic sequence of Bm–Bm₇–A–G–B♭₅ as its chord progression.^[8]

Author Rikky Rooksby, in his book The Complete Guide to the Music of Madonna, commented that the song was noticeably weaker compared to other singles like "Lucky Star" and "Borderline".^[6] Sal Cinquemani of Slant Magazine denoted the track as edgy and punk-infused.^[7] Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic commented that "Burning Up" and B side "Physical Attraction" had a darker, carnal urgency in their composition.^[9] Don Shewey from Rolling Stone called the song "simple stuff" while complimenting the B side, saying: "'Physical Attraction' is practically a capsule history of high-school proms, with its sly references to The Association's "Cherish" and Olivia Newton-John's "Physical."^[10] Robert Christgau called the 12-inch pair of "Burning Up" and "Physical Attraction" electroporn.^[11] Santiago Fouz-Hernández in his book Madonna's drowned worlds complimented the song for having upbeat dance music.^[12] Jim Farber from Entertainment Weekly commented that "Burning Up" proved that Madonna could rock also.^[13]

Commercial performance[link]

Like its predecessor "Everybody", "Burning Up" failed to break into the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but this time "Burning Up" even failed to chart in the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.^[14] It did however manage to peak at number three on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play, staying on the chart for 16 weeks.^[15] The song was a top 20 hit in Australia in June 1984, peaking at number 13, after having originally charted in the lower reaches of the top 100 in November 1983.^[16] The song was also used as background music for a scene in the 1984 film The Wild Life.^[6]

Sire Records commissioned a music video for the song to be directed by Steve Barron. Madonna's friend Debi Mazar was hired as the make-up artist for the video while Maripol was the stylist with Madonna's then boyfriend Ken Compton appearing as her onscreen lover. By the time the video was released, MTV had begun to show dance music videos. Hence the music video of "Burning Up" became a minor hit on the channel.^[17] The narrative of the video shows Madonna in a white dress, as she sings the song proclaiming her helpless passion for her lover.^[18] She wore her famous rubber bracelets which were actually typewriter belts.^[6] Her love for the boy portrayed her as a helpless victim like the stereotyped female portrayed in many silent movies. At one point in the video Madonna is shown being hit by a car driven by a young man, played by Compton.^[17] By the end of the song Madonna is shown driving the car, with a knowing, defiant smile on her lips and has ditched the man, thereby giving the message that she was in charge, a theme recurrent throughout her career.^[17] Though the lyrics of the song like "Do you want to see me down on my knees?" portray female helplessness, the video performance acts as a counter-text to it.^[18] When this line is sung, Madonna is shown kneeling on the road in front of the advancing car, then turns her head back while exposing her throat back in a posture of submission. However, her voice tone and her look at the camera portray a hardness and defiance that contradict the submissiveness of her body posture and turn the question of the line into a challenge for her lover.^[18]

Author Andrew Morton, in his biography on Madonna, commented that the video was America's first introduction to Madonna's sexual politics.^[17] Author Robert Clyde Allen in his book Channels of Discourse compared the video with that of "Material Girl". According to him both the videos have an undermining ending, while employing a consistent series of puns and exhibiting a parodic amount of excess associated with Madonna's style.^[18] The discourses included in the video are those of sexuality and religion. Madonna's image of kneeling and singing about 'burning in love' performed the traditional ideological work of using the subordination and powerlessness of women in Christianity to naturalize their equally submissive position in patriarchy.^[18] Author Georges-Claude Guilbert in his book Madonna as postmodern myth commented that the representation of the male character becomes irrelevant as Madonna destabilizes the fixing and categorization of male sexuality in the video.^[19] Her utterance of having "no shame" was interpreted by author James B. Twitchell, in his book For Shame, as an attempt to separate herself from contemporary female artists of that era.^[20]

Before its release, Madonna promoted the single by performing at different clubs around New York.^[5] Madonna was a professional performer by that time and was assisted by dancers Erika Belle and Bags Rilez to promote it.^[17] After promoting in New York in numerous nightclubs and pubs, she traveled to London to promote it in clubs like Heaven, Camden Palace, Beatroot Club as well as The Haçienda in Manchester. However, those performances were not well received by the British audience.^[21] The song was performed on 1985's The Virgin Tour but was omitted from the Live – The Virgin Tour VHS released by Warner Home Video.^[22] The performance ended with the music of "Like a Virgin" starting.^[23]Jon Pareles from The New York Times felt that Madonna posed like Marilyn Monroe during the performance of the song.^[24] Mikel Longoria from The Dallas Morning News called the performance as "crisp and energetic".^[25]

Madonna included the song on the set-list of her 2004 Re-Invention World Tour in the military segment. She was dressed in military garments and played electric guitar for the performance. As she sang the song, the backdrops displayed scenes of war and sex which were scrambled to appear as if they have been shot with a camcorder. Kelefa Sanneh from The New York Times described the performance and the video backdrops as being reminiscent of the prisons in Abu Ghraib.^[26] Sal Cinquemani from Slant Magazine commented that "it was a hoot to see her [Madonna] strap on an electric guitar and sing classics like 'Burning Up'."^[27]

During Madonna's induction at the 2008 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "Burning Up" was performed by the punk rock band The Stooges, along with "Ray of Light".^[28] In 2009, Jonathan Groff covered the song for American television show Glee. His version was included in the extended play titled Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna, and it was also released as a bonus track to the iTunes Store.^[29] Singer Britney Spears covered "Burning Up" in 2011 during select shows, for her Femme Fatale Tour.^[30] The performance featured her straddling a giant, glittering guitar, ten feet high and twice as long. However, Barry Walters from Rolling Stone felt that the cover she sung on the tour, "lacked Madge's [Madonna's] authority."^[31] studio recording of the cover, described by Sarah Maloy of Billboard as "glammed-up without a hint of the '80s to be found", leaked on June 10, 2011.^[32] Lovewave duo Magic Wands premiered a cover of "Burning Up" April 5th, 2012 on the blog RCRD LBL.^[33]

Francis first rose to fame after gaining the respect of American producer Diplo and eventually collaborating on the song "Que Que". His song "Masta Blasta", originally a 130 BpM house track, was edited after inspiration from Dutch musician Munchi and eventually ended up as the moombahton track that brought him to fame.^[2]

He has released works on multiple labels including Dim Mak Records, Mad Decent^[3] and OWSLA.^[4]

In February 2012, Francis became the first moombahton artist to achieve the number-one spot atop the Beatport Top 5 Releases Chart with the release of his extended play Something, Something, Awesome.^[5]

Jeffree Star (born Jeffrey Lynn Steininger on November 15, 1985)^[5] is an American model, fashion designer, makeup artist, DJ, and singer-songwriter residing in Beverly Hills, California.^[6][7] He started his music career from being known for his popularity on MySpace with over 100 million plays on his self released music, as well as his fashion line and from his transgressive, gender-bending appearance and persona while calling himself "Queen of the Internet" and "Cunt".^{[8][8][9][10][11]} Star has leveraged his fame as an androgynous model and aesthetic talents to launch his own clothing line and forays into acting and DJing.

Early Life[link]

Jeffree Star was born in Los Angeles County, California.^[12] His father died when he was 6 years old; subsequently, he was raised solely by his alcoholic mother, a model who frequently went on assignments. As a child, Star regularly began experimenting with his mother's makeup, leading to an obsessive compulsive interest,^[13] and convinced her to let him wear makeup to school when he was in junior high.^[14] At the age of fifteen, Star became a make-up artist. During this time, he wore makeup, dyed his hair with day-glo colors and began cross dressing which in turn led to receiving large amounts of attention and popularity from both fellow students and strangers.^{[3][14][14][13]} Following his graduation from high school, Star moved to Los Angeles and began supporting himself with various makeup, modeling, and music jobs.^[15][16] He later recalled spending his time on weekends "using a fake ID to attend Hollywood clubs dressed in mini dresses and nine inch high heels where celebrities would contract [Star] for makeup work at their homes", or "hiring [Star] as a model."^[13] Star reports that his weekend socializing at clubs and the makeup advice he offered eventually led to his modeling career.^[13]

2006–2008: Internet popularity and musical beginnings[link]

Jeffree Star used popular social networking website MySpace to further both his music as well as fashion design career. Star also used MySpace for blogging about his life while making social commentary on "self-image and confidence",^[4] fame, beauty and life. Star had built up a fan base on several websites but convinced many to join him on MySpace, giving his MySpace profile a large number of "friends" from the beginning.^[14] His MySpace photo shoots would frequently get over 50,000 comments when posted,^[14] and by November 2006, he was recognized as MySpace's most connected profile personality.^[17] Star also gained fame as one of the most popular unsigned artists with the daily rankings placing him in the top tier^[18] on MySpace. On March 28, 2007 at Project Runway's Jeffrey Sebelia fashion show Star was a front row "celebutante" where he revealed details of Buzznet.com’s “Queen Needs a Princess Contest” which had "a day of femme-licious fun with Star" as the grand prize.^[19] The social-networking, music-news site specializes in new-media (integrated photoblog and videoblog capabilities) which Star has capitalized on to dovetail his modeling and music interests.^[20] Stars' social trendsetting participation at Buzznet and his success at growing online fan-base was noted in Buzznet's six million financing in May 2007.^[21] Star regularly uploads video-blog segments including music reviews, event reports as well as posting news about his upcoming music release.

Star's music career as an electronica and pop vocalist began when he befriended Peaches' drummer who encouraged him to make music.^[14] Star was then asked by Deuce of Hollywood Undead to rap on their song "Turn off the Lights" for their debut album.^[22] However, the track did not make it onto the disc. Deuce was recently evicted from Hollywood Undead and has produced a mixtape ("Break Them Wallz") with Jeffree and another song titled "Freaky Now" (alongside friend "Truth"), in which Jeffree raps extremely explicit lyrics. His first two solo tracks "We Want Cunt", named in tribute to his former screen name Cunt: Queen of the Beautifuls, and "Straight Boys" were co-written with Hole and one time Mötley Crüe drummer, Samantha Maloney and singer Jessicka from Scarling..^[23] Star asked MySpace co-founder Tom to convert his MySpace profile into a music page so he could showcase his music.^[14] On the 13 March 2007, Star released his debut extended play Plastic Surgery Slumber Party which was produced by Ultraviolet Sound.^[24] The record topped at number one on the iTunes’s dance charts and "has consistently topped the iTunes dance charts at #1, hovering high above household names such as Justin Timberlake and Cascada."^[6][25] Separately, Star's MySpace page has 25 million listens to Plastic Surgery Slumber Party as of July 2007.^[26]

During the summer of 2007, Star was advertised as a part of the True Colors Tour 2007,^[27] which traveled through 15 cities in the United States and Canada.^[28] The tour, sponsored by the LGBT Logo channel, began on June 8, 2007 to coincide with Pride month.^[28] Profits from the tour benefited the Human Rights Campaign as well as PFLAG and The Matthew Shepard Foundation. Though he was advertised as a special guest to perform on several West Coast dates, Star did not appear.^{[citation needed]} Star's song "Plastic Surgery Slumber Party" appeared on the August 2007 Tommy Boy release of Cyndi Lauper's True Colors tour compilation. Featuring ten tracks from ten of the artists, the compilation benefits the Human Rights Campaign, an organization that fights for civil rights for LGBT people.^[28] Throughout 2006 and 2007, Star appeared in music videos by various artist, including Godhead, Good Charlotte, The Autumns, Aiden, and Amy Winehouse.^[29][30][31]

Following the success of Plastic Surgery Slumber Party, Star embarked on his Jeffree Star Will Steal Your Man tour, which had several North American and European dates. Prior to the release of his second extended play, Star released his debut promotional single "Heart Surgery Isn't That Bad..." on February 14, 2008. Star later released the single's b-side, "I Hate Music", on April 17, 2008.^[32] Star later recorded and released "Starstruck" featuring Danger Radio - his first single available for free download as a "thank you" to fans.^[33][34] Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso from Metro Station^[35] originally provided vocals for the song, however, due to a feud between the band and Star,^[36][37] they were ultimately replaced with Andrew de Torres from Danger Radio. In late 2007, following the success of his first EP, Star announced he was working on his debut studio album, set for release in 2008. Despite Star claiming the album would be released in 2008, he later announced that it had been pushed back to 2009, as he had to complete community service. After Star pushed back the release date of his debut album, he announced his upcoming extended play, which he hoped to release by late 2008. He released his official debut single, "Lollipop Luxury", as the lead single from the album on November 18, 2008. Cupcakes Taste Like Violence, Star's second EP, was released on December 9, 2008.^[38] This is his first record to be available as a CD as well as digital download.^[38] This is also Star's debut record to be released under Popsicle Records through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group. Star said the extended play "reminds me of myself. When speaking of the new album, Star stated that the new songs "are more sexy, some are more "guy"ish and some are me screaming my heart out. I'm still finding what "Jeffree Star" really is. And I think I'm almost there..."^[42] To "tide fans over" until the first single from the album was released, on April 21, 2009, Star released a remix cover of Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" which was made available for free download.^[43] Morgan Page's radio edit mix of "Prisoner" was released for free download by Star on December 18, 2009. He worked with producers such as Lester Mendez, 3OH!3's Nathaniel Motte, God's Paparazzi^[44] and more. Star performed at Warped Tour 2009 to promote some of the music from his album.^[44][45] The first single from the album, "Prisoner", was released for digital download on May 2, 2009.^[44] The track received two million plays on MySpace at the end of its second week being available for stream. "Love Rhymes With Fuck You" was released as a promotional single from the album, and was released for digital download on June 30, 2009.^[46] Star's debut studio album, Beauty Killer, was released on September 22, 2009.^[47] The album debuted at number 122 in the US Billboard 200 Chart. It also debuted at #7 in the US Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart and fell to #12 on its second week.^[48] Shortly after the album was released, Star announced a two week winter "I'm Cold, Keep Me Warm... Bitch!" tour in North America. However, due to "personal things [that] have gotten out of hand in [his] family" the tour was cancelled. Star embarked on his "2 DRUNK 2 FUCK" 2010 world tour, in which he stated he would "be going everywhere...and yes that means Europe and Australia". It was his first headlining tour to promote Beauty Killer. It featured BrokeNCYDE and Blood On the Dancefloor as the opening acts for various North American dates, while BrokeNCYDE was a co-headlining act for the European legs. He also headlined the "Lookin' Hot and Dangerous tour throughout 2010, which featured mainly North American shows, though four where outside of the US. Throughout late 2010 and early 2011, Star toured with pop-singer Dev on his Fresh Meat tour, named after the song from the album. The tour only featured North American dates, going through the United States, Canada, and Mexico. "A music video for "Prisoner" was originally planned in September 2009, though it was later replaced with "Get Away With Murder" which was filmed on November 7, 2009. The video premiered on the front page of MySpace on January 23, 2010.^[49] A music video for the title track, "Beauty Killer", was filmed in May 2010. The video premiered on Star's YouTube channel on June 19, 2010. Following the album's commercial success, Star released the song "Blush", an outtake from the original track listing. The song was released for digital download on February 16, 2010.^[50] A sixth promotional single, "Size of Your Boat", featured Muffy and was released for digital download on June 29, 2010.^[51]

In the Fall of 2010, Star was signed by R&B singer/producer Akon to his imprint Kon Live Distribution and did a joint venture with Star's own imprint Popsicle Music. In a recent interview with VLADTV Akon stated this about Star: "Jeffree is a male superstar... he's very creative on a whole other level. What inspired me to sign Jeffree was how far he's willing to take his vision, there's no limit. I love artists like that 'cause the sky is the limit. He's one of those guys who has a future of how he sees himself and how he wants to be perceived. With music you have to be able to raise some eyebrows..."^[52][53][54] On October 10, 2010 Star released a new promotional single "I'm In Love (With a Killer) for digital download.^[55] Star began working on his then second studio album in 2010, but he later revealed that he would be releasing an extended play, rather than his second studio album. The EP, titled Virginity, was initially slated for a February 14, 2012 release date, but has since been pushed back to an unannounced date. The lead single from this extended play, "Prom Night", was released for radio airplay and digital download on March 3, 2012.^[56] "Prom Night" is Star's third official single, and major label debut single. "Prom Night" is produced by Akon & written by Star, Kelly Sheehan, and Heather Bright. Los Angeles radio station 102.7 KIIS FM debuted the single and Star hosted the "Weekend Mixtape" show to promote it with DJ Skee and music director Julie Pilat. The music video was directed by Robby Starbuck, and was released on Star's personal YouTube account on May 11, 2012.^[57]

Star was referred to celebrities including Kelly Osbourne, AFI frontman Davey Havok and Jessicka from the band Scarling.^[14][58] He is a former make-up artist for porn company, Hustler. Star gained a cult following from posting outrageous photographs of himself on Internet forums and later MySpace, who began sending him gifts including expensive cameras to take more pictures.^[14] On August 1, 2006, Los Angeles' LGBT magazine Frontiers featured Star on its cover. On November 17, 2006 Star and several contestants from "America's Next Top Model" were a part of Black Chandelier's "Fall 2006 Runway Show" at Salt Lake City's Union Pacific Depot. Lacey Schwimmer is an American competitive ballroom dancer, singer, and the winner of multiple youth championships. She is best known as the fourth place finalist of the third season of So You Think You Can Dance. She is the daughter of noted dancer Buddy Schwimmer, as well as the cousin of Heidi Groskreutz, who placed fourth on the second season of So You Think You Can Dance. She is also the sister of Benji Schwimmer, the winner of the second season of So You Think You Can Dance. She participated in the seventh season of Dancing with the Stars as a professional dancer paired with Lance Bass of 'N Sync, in the eighth season of the show paired with Jackass star Steve-O and in the ninth season paired with actor and Iron Chef America host Mark Dacascos. Schwimmer returned to Dancing with the Stars for its eleventh season and she was partnered with Disney Channel star, Kyle Massey and in the 12th season she was paired with radio host Mike Catherwood. In the thirteenth season, she was paired with transgender activist Chaz Bono. Lacey will not be returning for season 14 of Dancing With The Stars to focus on other aspects of her career.^[1]

Schwimmer describes her dance style as West Coast Swing and International Latin.^[2] She made an appearance in Jon Chu and Adam Sevani's "Biggest Online Dance Battle" against M&M Cru and was credited as a member of America's Best Dance Crew with Hok, another So You Think You Can Dance competitor. She's made television appearances on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Good Morning America, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. In 2008 she danced alongside Adam Sandler at the MTV Movie Awards 2008. She then appeared in the video of the song Rainbow, by Elisa^[3] with singer songwriter Vinnie Ferra.

She is a part of the iHollywood Dance faculty teaching master classes in the United States and Norway. Schwimmer also has her own line of tube socks as well as a dance wear line designed by Sugar and Bruno Dancewear collection.^[4]

Lacey Schwimmer grew up in a Mormon (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) household in Redlands, California. Her parents are Laurie Kauffman and notable West Coast Swing dancer Buddy Schwimmer. She is the younger sister of Benji Schwimmer, winner of the second season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Schwimmer has been training and dancing competitively since a young age. At age seven, she and partner Brian Cordoba danced in the 1995 U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships.^[5] At age ten, she and partner Blace Thompson placed 1st in the Young America Division at the 1998 U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships.^[6] Schwimmer went on to have annual top rankings at the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships and has won numerous U.S. titles.

In January 2003, Schwimmer was paired with Jared Murillo, and the two began competing at a junior level. They were upgraded to the youth level in August 2003 and were in dozens of competitions. They received the U.S. title in the Young Adult Division of the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships.^[7] They were also awarded the US National Youth Latin Championship in 2006.^[8] Schwimmer also appeared in Christina Aguilera's "Candyman" music video as a jitterbugger.

Schwimmer and Murillo have a cameo appearance in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody in the episode "Loosely Ballroom". She is in the background of the scene during which a ballroom competition takes place.^{[citation needed]}

Schwimmer auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance with her brother, Benji Schwimmer.

After becoming a top 20 finalist on Season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance, Schwimmer was paired up with contemporary/hip hop dancer, Kameron Bink. The two danced together for five weeks and had much success, with the judges praising their chemistry and ease with which they danced together. They were also the only couple to never get placed in the bottom three couples. At Week 6, the couples were assigned new partners and Schwimmer was then partnered with Danny Tidwell. She was also partnered with Neil Haskell and Pasha Kovalev before being named a Top 4 Finalist on the show.

Schwimmer, her brother Benji Schwimmer, Donyelle Jones, Katee Shean, Jakob Karr, Ashleigh Di Lello, Joshua Allen, Evan Kasprzak, Kent Boyd, Marko Germar, and Melanie Moore are the only contestants in all eight seasons of the show to have never been in the bottom three couples or bottom four dancers.

After making it to the top 10 finalists, Schwimmer joined her fellow contestants in the So You Think You Can Dance's 2007 dance tour, starting in Albany, New York.^[9] On December 12, 2007, Schwimmer had surgery on her left knee to repair a torn meniscus she suffered during the So You Think You Can Dance 's 2007 dance tour.^{[citation needed]}

On the morning of August 25, 2008 on Good Morning America Schwimmer was announced as one of the professional dancers on season seven of Dancing with the Stars and was partnered with Lance Bass. TV Guide reported that Schwimmer had endometriosis but was still able to continue on the show as her condition did not require surgery.^[10] She returned for seasons 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13. During this time, she and professional dancers, Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin, are the only former participants from So You Think You Can Dance to perform as regulars on DWTS. However, other SYTYCD alumnis such as Anya Garnis, Iveta Lukosiute, Ryan DiLello and Pasha Kovalev have often done special performances performed during the results show.

On November 25, 2008, Schwimmer and her celebrity partner, Lance Bass, finished in 3rd place. Lacey was on the last DWTS tour with her partner Lance Bass. The tour ended on February 8, 2009. Lacey returned for season eight of DWTS, and she was partnered with reality television star Steve-O. On August 24, 2009 it was announced on GMA that Schwimmer would be partnering Mark Dacascos for season nine [1]. Schwimmer was not paired with a celebrity partner in season ten, but was present in a few results show dances.

In season 11 Schwimmer was partnered with Disney Channel star Kyle Massey. They made it to the finale and were the runners-up to Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough. For season 12, Lacey was partnered with radio personality Mike Catherwood. They were eliminated first on March 29, 2011. For season 13, Schwimmer was partnered with Chaz Bono. They were eliminated on October 25, 2011.

Schwimmer was featured as a singer on the 2010 single "Red Cup (I Fly Solo)" by Cash Cash.^[11] In June 2011 she released her official single titled "Love Soundz" produced by The Monsters and The Strangerz. The song hit the airwaves on "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" on June 17, 2011 and was available on iTunes on June 21.^[12]
