1978 Dean Martin Celebrity Roast: Jimmy Stewart Part 1 (Uncut as aired)
Part 1: This was one of the first "Roasts" my writing partner Mel Chase and I worked on, having been hired the summer previous to the taping dates at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. It's typical of the roast format and guest lineup -- Rich Little, LaWanda Paige, and Ruth Buzzi were among Dean's favorites. Head writer on the show was Harry Crane, a legendary gagsmith who had cut his comedic teeth on The Jackie Gleason Show (the variety show) and had originated "The Honeymooners" as a sketch which became so popular, it was repeated and later spun off as a separate series which lives on today. A year after my season on the roasts that included roastees Ted Knight, Redd Fox, Gabe Kaplin, Michael Landon, Ronald Reagan, and others, I was hired to write for Bob Hope, with whom I would remain for the next seventeen years. You can read all about the how Hope worked with his guests and his writers and what happened behind-the-scenes of these classic Bob Hope video clips by reading my book "THE LAUGH MAKERS: A Behind-the-Scenes Tribute to Bob Hope's Incredible Gag Writers," chosen a "Top 20" 2009 Year End Pick by Leonard Maltin who says... "Having spent twenty years writing for the indefatigable Bob Hope, and traveling all over the world, Bob Mills is well qualified to salute the famous corps of gagmen who kept the comedian knee-deep in jokes. These first-hand recollections summon up the final phase of Hope's career—and the end of the trail for an entire brand of show ...

Martin Campbell - Babylon Come (1981) - from "Historical Tracks (1978-1981) The Foundation"
Martin Campbell first became known on these shores (UK) when Jah Shaka would regularly deploy his roots classic 'Who Can We Run To' in the late '80s. Historical tracks 1978-81 proves that Martin had actually been producing for ten years prior to UK fame, appearing as a sort of bedroom maverick, playing all the instruments himself and recording drums in his mum's garage, although some vocals were pro recorded at King Tubby's, such as 'Love Has Gone' and the final cut 'War and Plunder' is set to a previously unreleased Aggrovators riddim 'Death In The Arena' recorded by Bunny Lee. We're struggling to think of any precedents for this lo-fi aesthetic because pretty much all the reggae we can think of was recorded in a proper studio setup, lending this album a fairly unique status in the Jamaican canon. The recordings have been subject to a fine restoration job by Gadd 59's Phillip Gadd, allowing for a fascinating (and clearer) look at an authentic reggae anomaly. Copies are limited to 500 for the world.
