CSFRieti Japanese immigration authorities have deported 14 Chinese activists who infringed on the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. Seven members of the group left Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, on a commercial aircraft bound for Hong Kong on Friday evening. They included 5 men who landed on Uotsuri Island in the Senkaku chain on Wednesday, to assert claims of Chinese sovereignty. The remaining 7 are the crew of a boat that the activists came on. They were separately repatriated to Hong Kong on the boat. Japan's police and coast guard had been questioning the 14 since arresting them on Wednesday. The authorities transferred the group to the immigration office instead of prosecutors, after confirming that the only crime committed was illegal entry. The move follows an example set 8 years ago, when 7 Chinese activists were deported after landing on Uotsuri Island. A reporter commented that they looked calm and well. A TV journalist from Hong Kong was among the group of activists arrested for the illegal entry. He told the reporter that they were protesting against Japanese interrogation. The journalist also said that when he was arrested, 2 Japanese Coast Guard ships had blocked the path of the activists' boat.
