Funny Side of Formula One - Best of 1987
Video highlights showing outtakes and the funny side of Formula One during the 1987 season:
-Murray Walker pokes fun at Alboreto's inability to beat whoever his teammate is, after Berger starts off beating him in the first race of the year in Brazil
-A typical Murrayism, admitting he can't tell his front from his rear as Mansell blows his left rear tire in Brazil
-Berger blows his engine at Spa and fogs up the pits
-Alliot spins off and nearly takes out Prost at Spa (a prelude to James' Hunt's criticism later)
-Senna sprays the royal family with champagne after winning at Monaco for the first time
-Senna gets cheeky and waves to the crowd in Detroit, and David Hobbs shares a story about Senna's escapades after winning in Monaco
-Berger fools around in the cockpit in Britain and De Cesaris sticks his fingers in his ears, fitting his earplugs while being watched by the camera
-Murray reflects on the bad luck of the camera on Nakajima's car at Silverstone, limiting the amount of times we get to see shots from it (also a prelude for later on in the season and Murray's own luck when calling to see from the camera)
-Piquet patiently sits on the podium waiting for Mansell after Nigel beats him to the victory in Britain in dramatic fashion
-Mansell sits in his Williams wearing his headwear without his helmet, looking a bit like a Mexican wrestler
-The McLaren jackman slips up and gets the jack stuck at the front of the car, delaying Prost in Germany
-Alliot shows more of his spinning expertise and a brilliant recovery, explained by James Hunt as due to his practice from spinning all the time
-The third time's the charm in Austria after two failed starts, the second worse than the first
-Mansell bangs his head on a bridge after winning in Austria, showing his pain on the podium and a funny interview with the classic Murray Walker
-Murray shows off his bad luck when mentioning the camera on Nakajima's car and how he never gets to see what he wants, during the Spanish Grand Prix
-Murray Walker and Satoru Nakajima exchange gifts in Japan in lieu of Nakajima's bad luck with the camera on his car all season (and also Murray's own misfortune with the camera on live TV)
-Senna scares the aggressive flag waver in Australia after finishing second
-Berger takes off his helmet in the cockpit and gives De Cesaris a lift back to the pits after winning the last race of the year in Australia

As many of you know this Sundays Brazilian Grand Prix is the 296th and final formula one race that Speed Tv will be broadcasting, ironically enough being the race that they got their start back in 1996 broadcasting as Speed Vision. This is a tribute video that they shared at the end of their emotional broadcast of the race, a look back of some of the highlights from their 17 year run. Highlights that will always be remembered whether it was a memorable race, interviews with the drivers, or some of the silly sayings the broadcasters had to say. 2012 will be your last season and what a season to conclude with.
From one F1 fan i can say on behalf of thousands of others, Speed Channel thank you for broadcasting as well as watching every breathtaking and rememorable moment that has unfolded over the 17 years with us. Its been a helluva ride and im sure we can all look back and without a shadow of a doubt say:
WE DID HAVE A LOT OF FUN TOGETHER!

Formula One on Speed Facebook Comment:
This is a sad day. I first heard news on this during Q3 of the Korean Grand Prix and i couldn't believe what i was hearing, i had to immediately jump onto google and search it.
Bob Varsha i love your commentator skills, you are always such a treat to listen to as well as doing Barrett Jackson Events as well.
David Hobbs gotta love you, love how you bring a drivers perspective to the mix as well as contrasting the past vs the present with every aspect from the drivers, to the cars, to the tracks.
Steve Matchett there can't be enough said about you, you make formula one so interesting on the inter working side of the sport, especially about the talk of the type of exhaust systems that they have during 2nd practice of the Korean GP. I love your RPM Segments as well and i have taped most of them. You have not only made me love F1 that much more but have allowed me to understand the basics to tire telemetry and suspension settings oh not only over and under steer but how to cure them, you make me look like a know it all around my friends watching. Knowledge is everything in this sport so thank you.
Will Buxton gotta love you as well, best interviewing in a while, you know how to ask the right/difficult questions and well as bring a jokey side of yourself out during the broadcasts and behind the scene segments.
Peter Winsor the greatest field Commentator that ever lived, you were the face of formula one back when i first started watching the sport at least 10 years ago. It was sad to see you go and try to have someone replace you until they hit the nail on the head with Will Buxton. Im sorry that the USF1 never got off the ground but i believe that you are owed a big credit to the reason why F1 is as big as it is in the US, you must be happy with the outcome of Austin and New Jersey next year.
Speed Tv has done a sensational job of bringing a once thought of Foreign Europeon sport to the states so we can get a glimpse of the pinnacle of motor sports. I appealed the News Corp dispute with Directv on the price increase just so I wouldn't lose SpeedTv just for the sole reason of keeping Forumla 1, its that important to me. Everything from the broadcasts of practice 2, to the online streaming, formula one debrief, to the text alerts, no one out there has ever covered any sport let alone auto racing from ever aspect possible and then some. Cant wait for the last 5 GP races of 2012 (which has been the greatest year ever) and especially the US GRAND PRIX IN AUSTIN. Congrats on your 17 year run with F1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, and the purpose of this series is to spread the word of Formula 1 to everyone.
In Part 3 we take a small break and look at the history and present of one of the oldest F1 teams; Williams. We talk to Patrick Head and Frank Williams, and the current drivers, Nico Rosberg and Alexander Wurz.

BMW Turbo 1300HP Megatron 1500cc Formula 1 Engine
BMW M12 F1
The BMW M12/13 turbo 1500 cc 4-cylinder turbocharged Formula One engine, based on the standard BMW M10 engine introduced in 1961, powered the F1 cars of Brabham, Arrows and Benetton and won the world championship in 1983.
As BMW M12, the engine design since the 1960s became one of the most successful engines in racing. Starting with the European Touring Car Championship, it was also used in Formula 2, expanded to two litre and fitted with four-valve heads, producing over 300 hp (224 kW). In the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft, a 1400 cc variant (with a 1.4 handicap factor equal to 2000cc) was turbocharged by Paul Rosche according to FIA Group 5 rules. At well over 350 hp (261 kW) from the beginning, it rendered the normally aspirated engines in the two liter category useless. After some development, power, driveability and reliability improved, especially in the IMSA car, and BMW began to think about entering F1, where a handicap factor of 2.0 required 1500 cc engines.
In the years 1986 and 1987, the version M12/13/1 was tilted sideways by 72° for use in the extremely low Brabham BT55. The design was not successful, probably due to cooling issues in the tight compartment. The 1986 engine was said to produce about 1,300 hp (969 kW) in qualifying, that being the most powerful figure of all the turbo-charged engines in Formula One.
As BMW announced to pull out officially at the end of 1986, the Arrows team brokered a deal with support from its primary sponsor, USF&G;, to continue the use of the upright BMW engines under the name of its subsidiary Megatron, Inc., founded by long-time F1 aficionado John J. Schmidt, who coined the phrase "Horse racing may have been the sport of kings, but auto racing is the sport of corporations". The engines were serviced by Heini Mader from Switzerland, the former mechanic of Jo Siffert.
Rebadged as Megatron, the BMW engines were used by the Arrows team for the 1987 and 1988 seasons, as well as Ligier for 1987 only.
The Megatron programme ended as a result of a change of Formula One engine rules which banned turbocharged engines at the end of 1988. The Arrows team reverted to using 3500 cc Ford-Cosworth V8 normally aspirated powerplants for the 1989 season.

Michael Schumacher (German pronunciation: [ˈmɪçaʔeːl ˈʃuːmaxɐ] ( listen); born 3 January 1969) is a German Formula One racing driver for the Mercedes team. Schumacher is a seven-time World Champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time.[1][2][3][4] He holds many of the formula's driver records, including most championships, race victories, fastest laps, pole positions, points scored and most races won in a single season -- 13 in 2004. In 2002 he became the only driver in Formula One history to finish in the top three in every race of a season and then also broke the record for most consecutive podium finishes. According to the official Formula One website he is "statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen".[5] In 2009, a poll of 217 Formula One drivers conducted by the British magazine Autosport named Schumacher as "the second-greatest Formula One driver who ever lived", behind Ayrton Senna.[3][6] As of the 2012 Formula One season Schumacher is the only driver left competing in Formula 1 to have raced against Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, whose record of total career wins he beat with his 52nd win at the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel (German pronunciation: [zeˈbasti̯an ˈfɛtəl]; born 3 July 1987) is a German Formula One racing driver, currently driving for Red Bull Racing. He is the current World Champion, having won the championship in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
In his first year driving for Red Bull in 2009, Vettel finished the season as the youngest-ever World Drivers' championship runner-up. He also secured Red Bull's first pole position and race win in the team's history. The following year he went on to become the youngest driver ever to win the World Drivers' Championship. In the same year he helped Red Bull win the team's first World Constructors' Championship. He followed up his first championship with a second in 2011, becoming the youngest double as well as youngest consecutive champion.
Vettel holds numerous other "youngest" Formula One records, among them: the youngest driver to have taken part in an official practice session of a Grand Prix, to score championship points, to lead a race, to secure pole position,[1] and to win a race.[2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Vettel
David Coulthard, MBE (/ˈkoʊlθɑrt/; born 27 March 1971[1]), often known as DC, is a Scottish former Formula One racing driver.[2]
Coulthard, who was born and raised in Twynholm,[3][4] made his Formula One debut in 1994 and won 13 Grands Prix in a career spanning 15 seasons. Twice a winner in Monaco, Coulthard was team-mate to Mika Häkkinen in the Finn's two Drivers' Championship-winning seasons for McLaren Mercedes before helping establish the Red Bull team. His best Drivers' Championship finish was second in 2001.
After retiring from racing in Formula One, Coulthard continued to be involved with the Red Bull Racing team as a consultant,[5] as well as joining the BBC as a Television commentator and pundit. He returned as an active driver in the DTM series for 2010, piloting a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class for Mücke Motorsport. He has finished in 16th position in the drivers championship in both years of competing in the series.[6]
