Finally they've got it right!
After trying the old app 3 times with trials and deleting it after crashes, long downloads and incomplete coverage of the paper version I tried the new app with 'Page view'.
Fantastic. Slick, & thoughtfully designed. Very usable. I prefer it to the physical paper newspaper as it blends the Wysiwyg with digital enhancement. The odd crash now and then but that might be my iPad 1 being underpowered.
