Cats In The Cradle-Harry Chapin
Cats In The Cradle-Harry Chapin
Cats In The Cradle-Harry Chapin My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home dad? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok" And he walked away but his smile never dimmed And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came home from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say "Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?" He shook his head and said with a smile "What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then I've long ...

Harry Chapin - All My Life's a Circle
Harry Chapin - All My Life's a Circle
Harry Chapin - Rockpalast Live taped in Germany on April 12, 1977 All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown Moon rolls through the night-time till the daybreak comes around All my life's a circle I can't tell you why Seasons spinning round again, the years keep rolling by Seems like I've been here before, and I well remember when I've got a funny feeling that we'll all be together again No straight lines make up my life, all my roads are bends There's no clear-cut beginning and so far no dead ends I've found you a thousand times, I know you've done the same Then we lose each other, it's like a children's game If I find you here again the thought comes through my mind Life is like a circle, let's go round one more time Note: The syncronization was a bit off, so I fixed and re-uploaded this wonderful song. directorzone.cyberlink.com

Harry Chapin's Story of a Life Live (High Quality)
Harry Chapin's Story of a Life Live (High Quality)
One of Harry Chapin's best songs. Lyrics: I can see myself it's a golden sunrise Young boy open up your eyes It's supposed to be your day. Now off you go horizon bound And you won't stop until you've found Your own kind of way. And the wind will whip your tousled hair, The sun, the rain, the sweet despair, Great tales of love and strife. And somewhere on your path to glory You will write your story of a life. And all the towns that you walk through And all the people that you talk to Sing you their songs. And there are times you change your stride, There are times you can't decide Still you go on. And then the young girls dance their gypsy tunes And share the secrets of the moon So soon you find a wife. And though she sees your dreams go poorly Still she joins your story of a life. So you settle down and the children come And you find a place that you come from. Your wandering is done. And all your dreams of open spaces You find in your children's faces One by one. And all the trips you know you missed And all the lips you never kissed Cut through you like a knife. And now you see stretched out before thee Just another story of a life. So what do you do now? When she looks at you now? You know those same old jokes all the jesters tell You tell them to her now. And all the same old songs all the minstrels sang You sing 'em to her now. But it don't matter anyhow 'Cause she knows by now. So every chance you take don't mean a thing. What variations can you bring To this ...

Harry Chapin - Taxi
Harry Chapin - Taxi
The well famed, (I feel over-rated in-comparison to some of his other songs) Taxi, In original form The best live version I'm aware of: www.youtube.com "I saw Harry Chapin and his band perform this song live on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The audience gave them a thunderous, standing ovation. Carson was so impressed he invited Chapin back the next night for an encore. One of the great story-song writers." -Reddalestew ----- "It was raining hard in 'Frisco, I needed one more fare to make my night. A lady up ahead waved to flag me down, She got in at the light. Oh, where you going to, my lady blue, It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain. She just looked out the window, and said "Sixteen Parkside Lane". Something about her was familiar I could swear I'd seen her face before, But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken" And she didn't say anything more. It took a while, but she looked in the mirror, And she glanced at the license for my name. A smile seemed to come to her slowly, It was a sad smile, just the same. And she said, "How are you Harry?" I said, "How are you Sue? Through the too many miles and the too little smiles I still remember you." It was somewhere in a fairy tale, I used to take her home in my car. We learned about love in the back of the Dodge, The lesson hadn't gone too far. You see, she was gonna be an actress, And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off to find the sky. Oh, I've got something inside me ...

Harry Chapin sings DANCE BAND on the TITANIC Live
"Dance band on the Titanic Sing "Nearer, my God, to Thee" The iceberg's on the starboard bow Won't you dance with me Mama stood cryin' at the dockside Sayin' "Please son, don't take this trip" I said "Mama, sweet Mama, don't you worry none" "Even God couldn't sink this ship" Well, the whistle blew and they turned the screws It turned the water into foam Destination sweet salvation Goodbye home sweet home I'm in the dance band on the Titanic Sing "Nearer, my God, to Thee" The iceberg's on the starboard bow Won't you dance with me There was a trombone and a saxophone The bass and drums were cookin' up the bandstand And I was strummin' in the middle with this dude on the fiddle And we were three days out from land And now the foghorn's jammed and moanin' Hear it groanin' through the misty night I heard the lookout shout down "There's icebergs around" "But still everything's all right" Oh, the dance band on the Titanic Sing "Nearer, my God, to Thee" The iceberg's on the starboard bow Won't you dance with me They were burnin' all the flares for candles In the banquet they were throwin' in first class And we were blowin' waltzes in the barroom When the universe went CRASH! "There's no way that this could happen" I could hear the old captain curse He ordered lifeboats away, that's when I heard the chaplain say "Women and children and chaplains first" Well, they soon used up all of the lifeboats But there were a lot of us left on board I heard the drummer sayin' "Boys, just keep ...

Harry Chapin - Let Time Go Lightly
Harry Chapin - Let Time Go Lightly
"I let time go lightly when I'm here with you, I let time go lightly when the day is through. I keep a watch on time when I've have work to do, I let time go lightly with you. Morning, a time for breaking ground and sowing seeds, and yet we give up our sunshine so we can buy what we need. That leaves the evening, to share a fire with a friend or two, to lose sight of the hours To go lightly with you I let time go lightly when I'm here with you, I let time go lightly when the day is through. I keep a watch on time when I've got work to do, I let time go lightly with you. Old friends, they mean much more to me than the new friends, Cause they can see where you are, and they know where you've been. Music, has been my oldest friend, my fiercest foe, cause it can take me so high, (High.....) Yes it can make me so low. When I was a child my mother would help me along She'd rock me to sleep and sing me a song. So I learned to love the music of all the tunes in my mind the changing of chords, the rhythm of time. I let time go lightly when I'm here with you, I let time go lightly when the day is through. I keep a watch on time when I've got work to do, I let time go lightly with you. Yes I let time go lightly with you, and a fire, and a friend or two With you and a fire and a friend or two A friend or two and you" /Lyrics From Sing365 at Sing365.com\

Harry Chapin sings BANANAS Live 1977
NOW EMBEDABLE 1977 No alternate endings but great performance by Harry and the guys! Only problem is, the audience is lacking in enthusiasm. It was a taping of a German tv show, 'Rockpalast' and it looks like they filled the audience by paying people to be there and clap. Poor Harry! He works hard to get them interested, but they just don't get it. Should have let real fans attend.

Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle Nonofficial Music Video
Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle Nonofficial Music Video
PLEASE READ BELOW... Below I have posted some things about the video (picture slideshow rather), since some people think I took the song too literally. But before you comment anything, read some of the "clues" below. What I was trying to do was combine what Harry was directly saying with my own understanding of the song. Clue 1: In most of the video, the pictures are shown zooming in...and then out...and then in again, etc. This was to show a metaphoric cradle rocking; the father thinking he is doing the right thing. Clue 2: Many people have a problem with the video really showing a cat. However, it isn't all that literal: The first time Harry says "...and the cats in the cradle...", it shows a cat in a cradle...but each time the line is said, the cat will change. This is to show how time is passing by and how things change. Then it shows a sliver spoon ("...and the silver spoon..."). But when this is repeated, the spoon will have a fork next to it, and then a knife. This is to show age and maturity in the boy. The very last spoon in the video is meant to look old...to show again the time that has passed by. "...little boy blue..." With that line, it starts with a blue man, then to a blue room, then to a blue car, and then to a blue house...this is to show, again, age and ,maturity. "...and the man on the moon...", with this line it starts with a toy man sitting on the moon, to a real photo of the moon, to a man landing on the moon, and then to what the future of the moon ...

Harry Chapin - Corey's Coming
Harry Chapin - Corey's Coming
I really like this song. If you're familiar with the original you'll notice a significant change in this version. I don't know which I prefer, but soon I'll upload both and you can choose for yourself. I can't find any lyrics for this version so maybe later I'll write'um myself. Old John Joseph was a man with two first names, They left him in the railroad yard when they took away the trains. Only one run a week comes on roaring down that line, So all he's got to worry 'bout is time. He sits in the break house his hands out to the fire, Moving though his memories of love and desire. Telling me the stories of the glories of his past, But he always saves the story of his Corey for the last. And he says "My Corey's coming. No more sad stories coming. My midnight-moonlight-morning-glory's coming, aren't you girl? And like I told you, when she holds you, She enfolds you in her world." I'd come by in the evening to find out where he'd been, And he'd say "Come on, sit down kid, where shall I begin?" And I'd say "You know my favorite, though you know I like the rest But I love the way you tell me of your Corey the best." And so I'd hear his life long love recreated by his tongue. He'd turn back the years, she'd seem forever young. Though the other stories changed, as they rolled though his head. He'd say the same words bout Corey just before he went to bed, and then he'd send me away but he'd be smiling as he said. "Can't you see my Corey's coming. No more sad stories coming My ...
