A man making aluminium utensils in Mizoram, India, mostly with his bare hands and minimal use of tools. Wood, clay and mud seem to be his prime tools, apart from his feet and hands! Mizoram is one of the Seven Sister States in North Eastern India, sharing borders with the states of Tripura, Assam, Manipur and with the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Burma. Mizoram became the 23rd state of India on 20 February 1987. Its capital is Aizawl. Mizoram is located in the northeast of India. A glorious morning in crowded Aizawl, Mizoram
A glorious morning in crowded Aizawl, Mizoram, India. One can barely imagine that this concretized vertical state capital occupying every square inch of hillside space is that of Aizawl! Some of the buildings appear to be seven and eight storeys tall... One wonders if a proper earthquake analysis has been done in the region prior to allowing such unbridled construction! See the big cross on the hill-top and the sound of buses screeching to a halt at the bus-stop. The capital state as well as the largest city of Mizoram is Aizawl; the center of all important government offices, state assembly house and civil secretariat.Aizawl is also the main religious and cultural centers of the Mizos, the ethnic tribe of Mizoram. The city lies just north of the Tropic of cancer and is located at 3715 feet from the sea level. A birds eye view of the city will sure catch the attention of the beholder. Some of the notable places once you get to Aizawl city are Mizoram State Museum, Durtlang Hills, Mini Zoo, Bara Bazar, Luangmual Handicarfts Centre and Berawtlang Tourist Complex. Apart from these tourist sites, the nearby tourist attractions are Bung, Paikhai, Tamdil lake, Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary, Kolasib, Vantawng waterfalls, Champhai, Phawngpui, Saiha and Lunglei. courtesy: mizoram.nic.in Thisfootage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of imagery from South Asia. Seen here is a local market, people and busy streets of Aizawl, Mizoram. Several cotton candy sellers mill along the road, providing some colour, while a gaggle of nurses walk by, heading to their hospital for duty. Maruti and Hyundai cars, Maruti vans, Alto cars and Tata Sumo non-SUV SUV's shuffle for street space on the crowded bazaar road. Motorcycles and trucks complete the picture! Celebration of Peace with Will Graham February 19, 2012 (Sunday Night) Aizawl, Mizoram Intro: Through my disappointments Strife and discontentment I cast my every care upon the Lord No matter what obsession Pain or deep depression I'm standing on the solid rock Chorus: I'm standing on the solid rock of ages (standing on the rock, on the rock of ages) Safe from all the storm that rages (safe from every storm, all the storm that rages) Rich but not from Satan's wages (rich in love, I'm rich, not from Satan's wages) I'm standing on the solid rock Now I'm pressing onward Each step leads me homeward I'm trusting in my Savior day by day And close is our relation Firm is its foundation So on this solid rock I'll stay Repeat Chorus Even though He's gone now I don't feel alone now With comfort came the Spirit of the Lord Now with His word to guide me From temptations hide me I'm standing on the solid rock Repeat Chorus (x3) I'm standing on the solid rock I'm standing on the solid rock (the solid rock)

Within the walls of Mizoram's Taj Mahal!
"If Agra has the Taj Mahal as testimony to the immortal love of Emperor Shahjahan, Aizawl now has no less grand a monument ? the KV Paradise. On the top of a hill in Durtlang, overlooking Aizawl, stands a grand edifice eternalising love ? a dream in marble that K. Chhawnthuama has built as a memorial to his wife. The founder of KV Multipurpose School in Aizawl, Chhawnthuama still cannot forget the day when his wife Rosanpuii Varte, a popular teacher of the school, was killed in a car accident. ?The disaster of my life occurred on November 27, 2001. We were planning to go abroad. She was an enthusiastic traveller and prior to the tragedy, she had suggested we save money for the trip. We managed to save Rs 31 lakh for the purpose. But when she was gone, I found I had no use for the money. It was then that I decided to build a memorial in her name,? K. Chhawnthuama explained. Lavish in its construction, Chhawnthuama spared no expense to create one of the most spectacular buildings in Mizoram. So much so that it is already being described as a sort of Mizo Taj Mahal. In Mizoram, never has the mortal remains of anyone been housed in greater grandeur. KV Paradise, as a tomb, has no peer. ?I think I have done everything for her. In life I gave her my heart, my love. After her life ended, I still wanted to give her the best,? said the bereaved 53-year-old. KV Paradise was built at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The lighting alone costs Rs 6 lakh. The granite and marble flooring came all ...

Burma's Chin Refugees in Mizoram State, India
(Washington, DC) April 1, 2012 — The Chin people in Mizoram State, India, live in a protracted, urban refugee situation and face daunting problems related to protection, livelihood, health, and education. While many of them have been there for years, new arrivals continue to flee into Mizoram, including many youth who are fleeing forced conscription by the Burmese military. Since 1988, tens of thousands of Chin people have fled from Chin State, Burma, seeking refuge in neighboring Mizoram State, India. Fleeing the widespread and persistent ethnic, political, and religious persecution by the Burmese military regime, their numbers in Mizoram have grown to an estimated 100000. The Chins seeking refuge make up almost 10% of Mizoram's population, which is 95% Christian. While Mizoram is known in India for its natural beauty and high literacy rate, the state is less well known to people outside of India. Mizoram is a landlocked, mountainous state among the remote seven northeastern states of India. The northeastern states are connected to the rest of India by a narrow strip of land between Nepal to the north and Bangladesh to the south. Chins in Mizoram State have for the most part been out of sight and out of mind for the international community. We have been moved by the courage, resourcefulness, and deep faith of the Chin people and encouraged by the compassion, hospitality, and deep faith of the people in Mizoram. Our hope is to be a catalyst for concerned governments ...

Chin Refugees in Mizoram State, India ( Burmese Version)
Thousands of ethnics flee Burma also known as Myanmar to escape persecution. They seek refuge in neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and India. 100000 ethnic refugees from Burma live in the Mizoram state of India. The Chins are constantly persecuted and run to their neighboring countries to seek refugee status, but find themselves being shunned by their new society as well.
