Phil Enquist, FAIA selected to receive 2010 Distinguished Alumnus Award

March 8, 2010, Los Angeles The Architectural Guild of the University of Southern California (USC) School of Architecture has selected Philip Enquist, FAIA, (BS1974, M.Arch 1979) as the recipient of the 2010 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Enquist will join a list of celebrated past recipients including Jon Jerde (1985), Frank O. Gehry (1987), Thom Mayne (1995), Pierre Koenig (1998), Academy Award winning art director Henry Bumstead (2004), Anthony Marnell II (2005), Christopher and David Martin (2006), USC Professor Victor Regnier (2007), Boris Dramov (2008) and Mark Rios (2009). Phil has brought American urban planning discourse along with American community building sensitivity to many global regions, including China, says Qingyun Ma, dean of the USC School of Architecture. He has demonstrated the Schools fundamental value: design as the integration of dynamic forces, which can span from buildings to cities. Philip Enquist is the Partner in Charge of Urban Design and Planning at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), LLP and the firm-wide leader of SOM's urban design and planning studios. The Chicago Tribune recently named Enquist and the SOM team 2009, "Chicagoans of the Year in Architecture," noting that, "SOM Chicago has distinguished itself in urban planning, through the city-friendly designs of partner Phil Enquist."
