1… Teachers and Husseini orators from Karbala Seminary Schools condemned in a statement the Saudi judicial system's decree for execution of Shia religious leader Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. The decree issued by the Saudi courts against Sheikh al-Nimr is “not logical and fair,” the statement mentioned. Several top Shia clerics around the world have also warned the Saudi government against execution of Saudi Shia national religious leader, saying that such harsh moves will injure the sentiments of all Shia Muslims across the world. The warnings to Saudi government came against the backdrop of the death sentence against Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. Al-Nimr has been charged with disturbing the country’s security, criticizing the Saudi government and Saudi King for failure to respect the civil rights of the Saudi people. Activists say there are over 30,000 political prisoners in Saudi Arabia. London based human rights group, Amnesty International, criticizedthe Saudi government for not addressing the “dire human rights situation” in the kingdom. 2… A young Moroccan woman was attacked by a large crowd of teenage boys with water, eggs and flour in Casablanca last week. In a video, a girl, dressed in a black colored Abaya, is seen attacked by dozens of teenage boys, as she was passing by them, in a popular neighborhood in Casablanca. The mob threw water, eggs and flour at the young girl who was frightened and screaming for help. The footage also shows one of the attackers trying to pull the young woman down from her hair, causing the victim to wince in pain. The assault occurred last week in Casablanca during Ashura day. The Organization of Ahlulbayt for Social Support and Education (OASE), which mediates conflicts between religious groups, announced plans to sue the Anti-Shia National Alliance and a mayor in West Java province, a lawyer for the non-profit organization said. At an October 25 alliance meeting attended by thousands of Sunnis, clerics issued several statements condemning the Shia religion. Among the speakers at the assembly were Muhammad al-Khaththath, secretary-general of the Islamic People's Forum, and Munarman, spokesman of the Islamic Defenders Front. At issue were statements by speakers denouncing Shias as "heretics," calling on banning Shias from commemorating the Day of Ashura. 4… Six worshippers have been martyred and four others wounded after aISIS-fired rocket landed on a mosque in Achin District of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said. Governor of Achin District said that the incident took place in Pandola area, adding that dozens of people were at the mosque to offer prayers when a rocket hit the mosque. The rocket was fired by ISIS he said, pointing out that, the target was a security post but it hit the mosque. Achin District, a mountainous area which shares a border with Tirah valley of Pakistan. 5… Startling new data indicates more than half of California's Muslim students between the ages of 11 and 18 are being bullied at school. An American Muslim group released a report called "Mislabeled," which reveals 55 percent of Muslim students in California say have been physically or verbally bullied because of their religion. That's nearly twice the national average of all students nationwide who report being bullied. Researchers explained that more male Muslim students than female Muslim students report experiencing Islamophobia, yet more girls report being discriminated by a teacher or administrator at school. According to the study, over 600 Muslim students, from 11 to 18, were surveyed across the state. 6… The Islamic Center of Long Island’s long-awaited expansion project has finally become a reality. The Westbury mosque, the oldest on the Island, will undergo a $4 million facelift over the next several years, a necessary step for the house of worship, its members say, after outgrowing the original building since it first opened its doors more than 30 years ago. Joining the mosque’s board for the groundbreaking ceremony were dozens of worshipers, religious leaders from other faiths and about a half-dozen local officials who have assisted in the expansion project by educating the surrounding community, including the village’s mayor, Peter Cavallaro.
