The Maker Of Buckyballs Embarks On Impassioned Campaign To “Save Our Balls” From CPSC

The maker of Buckyballs, those powerful tiny magnet desktop toys that can be harmful if swallowed, isn't going down without fighting the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Last week the CPSC convinced 11 retailers, including Amazon, to pull the toys from sale and sued Buckyballs' company, Maxfield & Oberton, to get it to stop selling them. But instead, the head of the company is embarking on a media blitz to "save our balls." More »

A Swarm Of Bees Is Not Something That Goes Well With An Airplane’s Wings

We know bird strikes are a terrible inconvenience to planes, but what about a gang of marauding bees? So maybe they weren't exactly marauding, but a beekeeper did have to be called in at Pittsburgh International Airport on Wednesday night to dislodge a swarm of honeybees that took to buzzing about on a plane's wings. Quite annoying, as the plane was about to take off for New York. More »

Relegated To Alienware’s Own Dell Hell

There are many circles of Dell Hell. The difference between Dell Hell and Dante's version of hell, though, is that Dante imagined sinners consigned to different levels of hell according to what they had done wrong in their lives. Your fate in Dell Hell is assigned pretty much at random, according to which model of computer you own, which technical support representatives you happen to encounter, and pure good or bad luck. Apparently, Dan's first sin was buying an Alienware computer less than a year ago. His second sin, apparently, was having technical problems slightly out of the ordinary. More »

Berating A Chick Fil-A Employee On Video Is Not A Good Way To Get Your Point Across

As we've mentioned before during this whole Chick fil-A standoff thing, it's the fast food chain's employees who have been unfairly drawn into a cultural tug of war. For example, there's the Tucson, AZ, executive who thought it would be a hilarious idea to post a video of himself berating a Chick fil-A staffer. Not only did he fail to effect any change, he's the one who is now out of a job. More »

Want Your Airline Bags Delivered To Your Door? American Will Do It For A Fee

It's not hard to believe that some fliers, sick of waiting at the baggage carousel for their luggage and then hauling it out through the airport and to their destination, might be willing to pay to have someone else do the schlepping for them. Now, American Airlines is hoping that enough people are willing to pay at least $29.95 for a service that just does just that. More »

Have you been staring sullenly at your cable or satellite bill, wishing you maybe didn't have to pay so much for TV anymore? Seems some customers are getting turned off pay-TV services, as DirecTV says it's finally losing subscribers for the first time, with a downturn of 52,000 customers between April and June. It added 26,000 customers in the same time frame last year, which is the toughest time of the season for luring in new customers. More »

Teen Lifeguard Saves Child From Drowning & Gets Thanked With A $2,600 Hospital Bill

Lifeguard training can only take one so far — which is why after pulling a drowning child from the ocean at an Oregon beach, a teen guard thought it would be standard procedure to head to the hospital in an ambulance to have him checked out by medical professionals. Even after receiving bills totaling around $2,600 for that trip, he says he has no regrets. More »

Not Even Apple’s Most Obnoxious Geniuses Can Solve My MacBook Problem

Mark is one of those longtime loyal Apple customers who Apple haters love to hate. For the first time, though, he's run into an intractable technical problem that even the Geniuses can't solve. The computer freezes when he uses wifi, which is problematic for anyone using a computer during the last decade. He's taken his MacBook to the store in person, called Apple tech support (on his iPhone, naturally) More »

Family Reunited With Muscle Car Stolen During Foreclosure Wants Bank Of America To Pay For Damages

Remember Aaron and his missing purple muscle car that disappeared after Bank of America sent in a winterizing crew? He'd been storing the car in his late mother's garage when the crew contracted by BofA showed up to secure the foreclosed house against the elements, and poof — his car was gone. It's been returned to him now due to the hard work of investigators, and two men have been arrested, but he says Bank of America still isn't being very helpful. More »

Verizon’s Deal To Buy Spectrum From Cable Companies Could Mean Fewer Cable Options For Consumers

It seems like it's been oh, about eight months since Verizon Wireless announced its proposal to buy billions of dollars worth of wireless spectrum from cable companies who aren't using it anyway. At first glance, it seems like a not-horrible idea, as Verizon Wireless doesn't compete directly with the likes of Comcast and Time Warner Cable. But with regulators nearing a decision on the deal, several high-profile folks have come forward to voice their concerns about how Verizon might be sacrificing the growth of its FiOS business in favor of its wireless network.
