Rohingya: The Most Oppressed People in the World - Thought Bubble # 2
MUSLIMANITY INTRODUCES THOUGHT BUBBLE, a new video experiment where we discuss social justice issues and politics that affect Muslims everywhere. This week on Thought Bubble, we take a look at the plight of the Rohingya people of Burma (Myanmar). Declared by the United Nations to be the most oppressed ethnic minority, the Rohingya people have been affected by outbreaks of violence directly inflicted upon its people. We take a closer look at some of the options to raise awareness and bring justice to these people. What do you think about this issue? How do you think the international community should respond? Comment below, send us your video submission, or upload an audio taping. Rohingya boat people stuck in limbo
In Thailand, dozens of people from the ethnic Rohingya group who fled Myanmar remain in limbo in a Bangkok detention centre a year after they were brought ashore on the Thai coast. Unwanted in their homeland and are given no rights, they now fear they will languish indefinitely in Thai jails. Al Jazeera's Aella Callan reports.

They were then found by Indonesian fishermen and brought to safety there. Here's an update on the fate of the Rohingya people. STORY: These refugees are the latest Rohingya boat people to accuse Thai authorities of towing them out to sea and abandoning them to their fate. This second group of nearly 200 are being cared for in Indonesia after fishermen found them adrift off the Aceh coast. Indonesian officials say more than 20 others didn't survive the journey. Some who did say they spent nearly three weeks adrift. [Rahmat, Survivor]: "Some fishermen in their boats saw us and we sought their help as we were thrown out to the sea by the Thais. Then the fishermen towed us to this country." Thailand is accused of casting 1000 Rohingya boat people adrift in the Andaman Sea. The army has admitted towing hundreds out but insists they were left with food and water and denies their boat engines were sabotaged. The Rohingyas say they can't stay in Myanmar where they form a stateless Muslim minority because their lives are in jeopardy. But there is considerable hostility in Thailand where many arrive annually in search of better lives. On Tuesday hundreds of Thai villagers in the southern province of Ranong staged a protest to ...
