New on Zen Habits: How to Make Health Insurance a Bad Bet. Thoughts?

Post written by Leo Babauta. I'm a self-employed business owner, which means I need to buy my own health insurance — and even a high-deductible plan would end up costing me thousands of dollars a year...

As a Canadian, I say vote for health care in your country. Every citizen has a right to excellent health care whether you are healthy, physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually sick, in an accident, God forbid, external uncontrollable illnesses that could ravish a family's well being, emotionally or financially.  The last thing you want to think about when someone is ill, is can we afford this? Vote for excellent health care.

I hate exercising. Period. I'm not lazy. I have a clean house, a clean car a neatly swept yard, a regularly mowed lawn, all my bushes and trees trimmed neatly, I swim in my pool a 2 to 3 times a week, and I walk my dog twice a day. But exercising for the sake of movement? Boring.

Hello Leo! Have you read a book by doctor Dean Ornish "Love and survival"? If not, I highly recommend it to you. It's about the healing power of love and intimacy and community from a physician's perspective. You may have heard about his program where it was proven that coronary disease can be reversed with lifestyle changes including whole foods plant based diet.
PS. Thank you for the blog!

Next week, I'll be interviewing best-selling author Timothy Ferriss (of the 4-Hour Work Week and 4-Hour Body) on the topic of how to best learn anything. Submit questions using the link below (not in the comments) and vote for the best questions.

The top 5 questions will definitely be answered by Tim, who has an upcoming book coming out on this topic. The next 5 questions will probably be answered too.

Submit and vote using the link now!

Eva to the kids: "What's not to like about celery?"

Noelle, our six-year-old, replies without missing a beat:

"Well first, it's green ... second, it's a vegetable ... and third, it grows from dirt and water!"

When asking questions one must be prepared to hear the answers. ;-) Six-year-olds are a largely untapped source of wisdom.

I want to toss out another point.

If I am working on something "just for fun", it might look like real work to other people, but I'm going to do it better than I will do anything assigned to me.  Partly because I'm doing it for fun.  Partly because I care.  I can't normally claim that for any of the things assigned to me.
