Field goal range is the part of the field in American football where there is a good chance that a field goal attempt will be successful.
A field goal is normally 17 or 18 yards (7 or 8 yards in Canadian football) longer than the distance of the line of scrimmage to the goal line, as it includes the end zone (10 yards) and 7 or 8 yards in which the holder stands behind. In Canadian football, the goal posts are on the goal lines, in front of the end zones. Therefore, if the line of scrimmage is at the 30, the field goal would be 47 yards (in American football) or 36 yards (in Canadian football).
The exact field goal range varies for each team, depending on the ability of the team's placekicker. While some weaker placekickers may have trouble kicking field goals longer than 40 yards (making field goals from beyond the 23 difficult), others may consistently make 50-yarders, making it practical to kick from beyond the 33. For most NFL kickers, the 35-yard line is typically the limit of their field goal range. Weather conditions, particularly wind, also have a significant impact on field goal range; kicking with the wind at the kicker's back significantly increases field goal range, while kicking against the wind or with a stiff crosswind will greatly reduce the kicker's effective range, while generally there is no advantage beyond assured targeting of a kick if a game is being played indoors. Altitude also has an impact on kicking range; both the longest punt in NFL history and three of the longest field goals in NFL history took place in Denver, Colorado, which is more than 4,000 feet (1,200 m) higher in elevation than the next-highest NFL city (the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona).
A field goal (FG) is a means of scoring in American football and Canadian football. To score a field goal the team in possession of the ball must place kick, or drop kick, the ball through the goal, i.e., between the uprights and over the crossbar. American football requires that a field goal must only come during a play from scrimmage, while Canadian football retains open field kicks and thus field goals may be scored at any time from anywhere on the field and by any player. The vast majority of field goals, in both codes, are placed kicked. Drop kicked field goals were common in the early days of Gridiron football but are almost never done in modern times. In most leagues, a successful field goal awards three points (a notable exception is in six-man football where, due to the difficulty of making a successful field goal because of the small number of players available to stop the opposing team from attempting a block, a field goal is worth four points).
A field goal may also be scored through a fair catch kick, but this is extremely rare. Since a field goal is worth only three points, as opposed to a touchdown, which is worth six, it is usually only attempted in specific situations (see Strategy).
In sports, goal is a physical structure or area where an attacking team must send the ball or puck in order to score points. In several sports, a goal is the sole method of scoring, and thus the final score is expressed in the total number of goals scored by each team. In other sports, a goal may be one of several scoring methods, and thus may be worth a different set number of points than the others.
The structure of a goal varies from sport to sport. Most often, it is a rectangular structure that is placed at each end of the playing field. Each structure usually consists of two vertical posts, called goal posts, supporting a horizontal crossbar. A goal line marked on the playing surface between the goal posts demarcates the goal area. Thus, the objective is to send the ball or puck between the goal posts, under or over the crossbar (depending on the sport), and across the goal line. Less commonly, as in basketball or netball, goals are ring-shaped. The structure is often accompanied with an auxiliary net, which stops or slows down the ball when a goal is scored.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.

Ryan gets a 1 on 1 kicking lesson in Orange County, CA with Coach Brent of Kicking World. In only 15 minutes Ryan (14 year old Freshman) added 5 yards to his previous long field goal of 35 yards. He hit a few 40 yarders after the kicking instruction! He improved tremendously in his field goal kicking with respect to: ball height, distance and overall consistency. Take a look at the before and after kicking video and watch Coach Brent's commentary at the end of the video. Of course he's still very new at this so the form is by no means 'perfect' in this video but the point is the quick improvement in such a short time.

WTF Madden?! Did you just give me a mercy win? You're in position to win the game with a field goal, and all you have to do is run the ball up the middle, spike it, and kick the game-winner. Instead, you throw downfield, the receiver catches the pass, runs BACKWARDS, and then gets tackled in-bound, out of field goal range. I even called a timeout to try to give the CPU a chance to kick the field goal, but it decided to go for a hail mary pass instead (because they would've been kicking against a strong wind). This is a perfect example of Madden pre-determining the outcomes of games. The Falcons were never in this game, and I could tell from the first few minutes that the game was going to give me a win. Now I feel like my win is undeserved, and I'm tempted to replay the game on a higher...
Week 1, Episode 4 - Chicago Bears vs Minnesota Vikings Note: I did a TON of long-range field goals attempts - I did a very sloppy game on this game in week 1. :(
Though the Oregon Ducks trailed the USC Trojans by as many as 24 points, the critical Pac-12 (and BCS!) battle game down to the final minute. The Ducks had a lot of ground to travel and needed three points to tie. With just under a minute to go, Oregon secured a first down in (long) field goal territory. Oregon had three time outs, but chose to play at ... well, a pretty normal pace for them. In fact, USC was the first to blink and call for a stoppage. Kenjon Barner neared a first down on the next play, then picked it up on second down to reach the outskirts of Oregon's field goal range. Darron Thomas threw out of bounds to leave the Ducks with three time outs and 14 seconds left. A screen to Lavasier Tuinei was stuffed, leading to a time out with seven ticks to go. It would've been a 3...

This video is intended for historical and educational viewing purposes. When the final pass fell incomplete in the end zone, and No. 1 Florida State had locked up yet another chance at a national title, the Seminoles raced to midfield for their rendition of the Swamp Stomp. Peter Warrick ran for one touchdown and set up the clinching score with a 38 yard catch, and Sebastian Janikowski kicked three field goals - one from 54 yards - as the Seminoles beat No. 3 Florida 30-23 Saturday before a record crowd of 85,747 at Florida Field. The Gators (9-2) were their own worst enemy in losing for just the fourth time - second this season - in 61 home games unde...
Recap & Reaction for New York Jets at Dallas Cowboys played December 19, 2015 This was a low scoring defensive battle that came down to the final minute of the game with the outcome hanging in the balance. The Cowboys kicked a field goal on their 1st possession of the game but Matt Cassel was replaced by Kellen Moore in the 2nd quarter. The Jets defense ended up with 4 interceptions (1 off Cassel & 3 off Moore) but the offense would only manage 3 points from the turnovers. Moore's 2nd NFL pass attempt was picked off but he would throw his 1st career touchdown with just over a minute left before halftime with a 10 yard pass to Dez Bryant to give Dallas a 10-9 lead. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a 3 yard touchdown to Eric Decker with a little under 9 minutes left in the game to give the Jets a 3 p...

Missed Field Goals Prove Costly For Auburn: BATON ROUGE, LA. -- This season, there was no reprieve for Auburn's John Vaughn. Vaughn's 39-yard field goal attempt in overtime hit the left upright, giving No. 7 LSU a 20-17 victory over No. 16 Auburn on Saturday night. Last year, Auburn beat LSU 10-9 on Courtney Taylor's touchdown with 1:14 remaining. Vaughn initially missed the extra point, but a penalty gave him a second chance. In this season's rematch, he missed five field goals, including a 49-yarder in the final seconds of regulation that would have won it. "About three of the kicks tonight, when I hit them I thought they were good. I got a little unlucky and they went right or left," Vaughn said. "The last one tonight, I thought I hit it pretty good and when I looked up I knew I wa...
