How Volcanoes Form
From: hvg.heinemann.co.uk The formation of volcanoes explained in geological terms: an animation depicts Iceland on the mid-Atlantic ridge, a great fault lying between the Americas and Africa; the Earth's surface is divided into plates; the plates move across the Earths surface causing continental drift; an animation shows a cross-section of the Earth, each layer is described and named, the theory of plate tectonics is introduced; an animation demonstrates the constructive and destructive elements of plate tectonics and how volcanoes are formed along plate boundaries; an animation of 'hot spot' volcanoes forming on the Pacific plate, Mount Kilauea, Hawaii being a good example.

Yellowstone Super Volcano Alert - History Channel Special
YELLOWSTONE SPECIAL ALERT - 01.23.2010 - USGS reports well over a thousand earthquakes within the last 7 days, four of which rattled Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park spokesman Al Nash says people reported feeling the Wednesday quakes at the park locations of Old Faithful, Canyon and Mammoth and in the Montana towns of West Yellowstone and Gardiner. The University of Utah Seismograph Station speculates that the swarms of earthquakes are probably the result of slipping preexisting faults rather than underground movement of magma. However faults are not know to produce non-stop earth quake activity lasting for weeks on end. Only underground magma on the move can do that, as the quakes are all concentrated inside Yellowstone Park rather than along a fault line running hundreds of miles in length. (Go figure) Since no one in recorded history knows the warning signs of a super volcano about to erupt, obviously it's anyone's guess. Just know that if these quakes continue, it's advised that anyone within a 400 mile radios may want to find somewhere else to stay for a while until the ground stops moving in Yellowstone. Note. In 2006 President Bush jr. mandated that the USGS not talk to the public about the state of Yellowstone. Obviously the public is to be kept in the dark as Obama had not rescinded the order. * You may want to Subscribe for latest updates. __________________________________________ Satellite imagery, GPS stats, and a whole bunch of other data ...

National Geographic - How Volcanoes Form
A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in a planet's surface or crust, which allows hot, molten rock, ash, and gases to escape from below the surface. Volcanic activity involving the extrusion of rock tends to form mountains or features like mountains over a period of time. Volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates are diverging or converging. A mid-oceanic ridge, for example the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, has examples of volcanoes caused by "divergent tectonic plates" pulling apart; the Pacific Ring of Fire has examples of volcanoes caused by "convergent tectonic plates" coming together. By contrast, volcanoes are usually not created where two tectonic plates slide past one another. Volcanoes can also form where there is stretching and thinning of the Earth's crust (called "non-hotspot intraplate volcanism"), such as in the African Rift Valley, the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field and the Rio Grande Rift in North America and the European Rhine Graben with its Eifel volcanoes. Volcanoes can be caused by "mantle plumes". These so-called "hotspots" , for example at Hawaii, can occur far from plate boundaries. Hotspot volcanoes are also found elsewhere in the solar system, especially on rocky planets and moons. Kilauea Volcano Erupts - Dramatic Video
Kilauea is the youngest and southeastern most volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. Topographically Kilauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kilauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kilauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth. Hawaiian Meaning The Hawaiian name "Kilauea" means "spewing" or "much spreading," apparently in reference to the lava flows that it erupts. Eruptions have been Continuous since January 3, 1983. It is estimated that the first eruption of Kilauea has between 300000 and 600000 years ago.

Volcano song. Here is a video I created for my 6th grade science students to help them study.I hope you enjoy. Did you ever see a week spot on Earth? Where molten magma comes And reaches the surface After lava cools, it forms solid rock Adding to the land Can form islands Around the Ring of Fire is a volcanic belt Divergent, Convergent Subduction at the ocean's edge Do you know about Hot Spot Volcanoes 'Cause there's a spark beneath It just has to ignite the light A blowtorch fire For a long time Like Hawaiian Islands Chorus Volcanoes are like Fireworks Gasses bubble to the surface Magma goes up-up-up And might shoot across the sky-yy Magma squeezes up the pipe Out a side vent, or atop the vent The crater fills up-up-up Then the lava flows down-own-own Shield volcanoes are flat mountains Slowly lava flows, and it will harden Then the Cinder Cone produces ash and bombs Cinders pile up making steep cone shaped hill mountains Sometimes lava flows and the do explode They alternate the layers, Composite Volcanoes Like a lightning bolt, the ground will blow And when it's time you'll know Active volcanoes are live, alive Extinct has died Sleeping at night Is the one that's Dormant Chorus Volcanoes are like Fireworks Gasses bubble to the surface Magma goes up-up-up And might shoot across the sky-yy Magma squeezes up the pipe Out a side vent, or atop the vent The crater fills up-up-up Then the lava flows down-own-own Bridge Boom, Boom, Boom Pyroclastic flow, explosive doom Unless ...

Volcanoes
Dramatic vintage volcano footage. YOUTUBE MADE ME CHANGE THE MUSIC. I originally used Arthur Lyman's 'Yellow Bird' but i guess that was copyright infringement. i could have gone back in and reedited the video with one of my own songs, but Youtube has something called AUDIOSWAP. They have all these songs that they have the rights to and you can pick one and then swap the audio - who knew? Anyway, it's a little different now but i think it's still mildly entertaining, maybe even mildly hilarious. You can do this with your own videos too, remember AUDIOSWAP, it only takes a few minutes. Volcanoes with soundtrack - Archive.org supplied some of the footage - Prelinger collection, i transferred some from super 8 as well. Edited by Adam Bork

Eruption after person falls in lava lake of volcano (test with organic waste, garbage, trash)
Incineration of waste in Erta Ale Volcanoes lava lake. It is frequently discussed whether it is possible to sink in lava. Due to its high density, a person would generally be expected to remain on the surface. Indeed it is possible to briefly walk on certain types of lava if professional heat-protective clothing is worn (do not try yourself). However, the video shows that falling from a height, a person would be able to penetrate the crust of the lake and submerge in it. The test was performed with a box of camp waste (largely food rests) in a bin bag. Estimated weight 30kg, Size 60x60x60cm. Fall height, about 80m. The lake reacts with violent lava fountaining activity, presumably in part due to steam produced from the organic matter. The lava lake at Erta Ale has persisted for many years and contains relatively fluid basaltic lava. Only few volcanoes have such lakes. Due to the large number of copyright violations in recent days, users are reminded that they may not resubmit the video or parts of it (in amended or unamended form) under their own name. This is being monitored and youtube will be notified of any further violations. This is the original version of the video which I filmed myself and of which I am the sole rights holder.
