Darfur in 10 Minutes: An Overview of the Conflict in Sudan
Note 1: We are often asked if this video can be used by people for their projects. Yes. Please don't plagiarize. Quote, credit and/or footnote correctly. Love more. May it help! Note: Ivan is available to talk at your school or anywhere else, or to be asked questions at darfurintenminutes@hotmail.com A brief overview of the Darfur conflict from a friend of mine who has spent a considerable amount of time "on the ground" there. The overview describes three of the significant "drivers" that explain what is going on in Darfur, but also show why decreasing the misery is so difficult. The three "drivers" are 1) ethnicity, 2) oil (mostly China, in the ongoing "scramble for Africa"), and 3) desertification/climate change. I hope this overview is helpful. Any informative comments are greatly appreciated. As a personal note, with the Darfur hell so centred around oil, I can't help but think of the Iraq hell, that also began in 2003, and has likely resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians—basically folks like you and me. Don't you just dream of a time when enough people actually say, "No"—and it has meaning? Maybe that time is closer than we know. Darfur - Behind the Scenes, the sudan drama by Uwe Boll. Unaware of what they would find, a group of international Journalists visit a small village in Darfur under the protection of the African Union (AU). They were never the same again... Darfur has been termed genocide. The crisis has claimed the lives of over 300000 civilians. The state sponsored Janjaweed Militia, with the support of Sudanese Government Forces, are responsible for the majority of the rape, torture and murder. 2.8 million Darfuri have been displaced within Sudan. 3.8 million people are dependent on international humanitarian aid. One half of these people are beyond the reach of such help. For more informations please visit: www.standcanada.org

Teachers seek education for Darfur girls
Teachers, along with international aid groups, are working on increasing education for girls in Darfur, Sudan. Amani Abdul Baker, once a student, sits at home to do daily house chores as her father was forced to take her out of school due to lack of funds. Amani is like many Darfur women of her generation as many of them can't afford to attend school. In Nyala, the capital of the South Darfur, education is seen as something Amani's family can't provide her with due to limited financial resources. However, she is positive and hopes that this will change, and other girls might be able to attend school in future. "When I'm staying at home and I see other girls go to school it makes me sad," she said. "In this village, there are more girls at home than at school," she added. In Sudan's Darfur region resources are limited, with a shortage of desks, chairs, books and stationery, which make education tough. The girls who can attend school consider themselves the lucky ones, especially those who could have stayed home to help with household tasks. More than fifty percent of the South Darfur girls will never receive education or even be admitted to a classroom due to either poverty or the widespread early marriage. Habiba Ahmed, a fifteen-year-old, is one of the few girls in this region who was fortunate to receive education. She hopes one day to become a nurse. Habiba and her classmates feel secure, with support of their teachers along with the United Nation Children's Fund ...

Sudan army kills Darfur rebel leader
The Sudanese army said it killed the leader of the main Darfur rebel group, touting his death as a key victory against a powerful rebel force. Khalil Ibrahim, who led the Justice and Equality Movement, died of his wounds after a military offensive in North Kordofan state, which borders the western region of Darfur. He was considered one of Khartoum's most powerful opponents in Darfur. His movement, in its most stunning display of might, launched an attack in the outskirt of Khartoum that shook the government. At least 200 people, including rebels, civilians and security, died in that attack. Al Jazeera's Mohamed Vall reports from the Sudanese capital.

Genocide in Sudan with Ted Braun director of the documentary Darfur Now on BYOD EP19
EPISODE SYNOPSIS: Having made a very moving film about an incredibly important issue, Ted Braun has come to tell the story behind his brilliant Sudan exposé, Darfur Now. Ondi and Vlad get the details behind the launch of the project, enlisting Don Cheadle to be a cameraman, and the trying circumstances that go along with working with the Sudanese government. It is a fascinating show about one of the most heart wrenching conflicts on Earth that has gripped the attention of heads of state and George Clooney, alike. GUEST BIO: Ted Braun was born in Kansas City, Kansas and grew up in rural Vermont. He studied English at Amherst College and film production at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts and later taught screenwriting at both institutions; he's currently an Assistant Professor in screenwriting at USC. He has written and directed several award-winning documentaries and fictional films, on topics ranging from test pilots of aviation's golden age, to the historical Jesus, to the struggle for the civil rights of developmentally disabled citizens. He spent the first four months of 2007 in Sudan filming Darfur Now with unprecedented access to the internally displaced people of Darfur, international aid workers, the government and the rebels. Darfur Now (07) is his first theatrical documentary. KONY 2012 Study Guide : Darfur "genocide" Sudan, ICC, George Clooney
Sudan Darfur Clooney, Bush, Ocampo, Israel lobby and their Blacks This original video has just over 2000 views. if you think we are too lazy to believe George Clooney instantly, please share and mirror to spread different aspects. ******************************************* www.youtube.com The story of genocide in Darfur is a terrible one, not because there is a genocide in Darfur, but because the war there today between the rebels of Darfur and the government of Khartoum, is supported and financed by foreign powers. There are certain blacks in southern Sudan who have problems like those of Darfur but these are historical problems connected to English colonization. The English colonization favored the north, which today is considered to be Muslim, or Arab, and the people of the south were abandoned. And this system continued right up to the time of independence and then after independence. So, the real problems that presented themselves in Darfur as well as in southern Sudan, are problems of regional stability in terms of infrastructure, education, jobs... But there's a desire to stir up hate between the Muslims or Arab-Muslims and the Christians and animists in southern Sudan and this manipulation is organized and orchestrated today by those who want to create instability in Sudan. The first reason why the West wants to get rid of President Al-Bashir is that he fought in the 1973 Yom Kippur war against Israel. He was in the Egyptian army, as a Sudanese. Second reason ...
