John Walter (second).

John Walter (23 February 1776 – 28 July 1847) was the son of John Walter, the founder of The Times, and the newspaper's second editor.

He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School and Trinity College, Oxford. About 1798 he was associated with his elder brother in the management of his father's business, and in 1803 became not only sole manager, but also editor of The Times.

In the same year he signalled the new spirit of his stewardship by expressing his opposition to Pitt, which cost him government advertisements and the loss of his appointment as printer to the Customs, besides exposing him to the unscrupulous hostility of officials. When the King of Portugal sent him, via the Portuguese ambassador, a service of gold plate, he returned it.

It was the same jealous regard for the complete independence of The Times that led him to insist upon the strict anonymity of the able men whom he hired. From about 1810, he delegated to others editorial supervision, first to Sir John Stoddart, then to Thomas Barnes, and in 1841 to John Thadeus Delane, though never the ultimate direction of policy.

In 1830, Walter purchased an estate called Bearwood at Sindlesham in Berkshire where he built a house, afterwards rebuilt by his son to form the present mansion. He was appointed High Sheriff of Berkshire the same year. Two years later, he was elected to Parliament for that county, and retained his seat till 1837. In 1841 he was returned to Parliament for Nottingham, but was unseated the following year on petition. He was twice married, and by his second wife, Mary Smythe, had a family. His eldest son, John, also worked in the newspaper. He died in London on 28 July 1847.

John Noble (born 20 August 1948)^[1] is an Australian film and television actor, and theater director of more than 80 plays. He was born in Port Pirie, South Australia, Australia and is currently starring as scientist Walter Bishop in the J. J. Abrams television series Fringe.

He made occasional appearances on the television series All Saints. He is internationally known for his performance as Denethor in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He played Russian Consul Anatoly Markov in the sixth season of the American television series 24. In 2011 he appeared as Real Estate tycoon Leland Monroe in Rockstar's video game L.A. Noire.^[2][3] He is also the voice of Unicron for the television show Transformers: Prime.

John lives in the US with wife Penny Noble. They have three children: Daniel Noble, Jess Noble and Actress Samantha Noble. In 2011, John's hobbies were reported to be "music and painting".^[4]

Connie Sellecca (born May 25, 1955) is an American actress and former model, best known for her roles on the television series The Greatest American Hero and Hotel, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama in 1987.^[1]

She was born Concetta Sellecchia in The Bronx, New York, New York to Italian parents.^[2][3] At age twelve, she moved to Pomona, New York and attended Pomona Junior High School. While attending Ramapo High School in Spring Valley, she first became interested in the performing arts. Although she matriculated at Boston College, she withdrew to pursue a career in acting.^[4]

Sellecca first worked as a fashion model before her acting debut in the film The Bermuda Depths in 1978,^[5] followed by Captain America II: Death Too Soon, a TV movie starring Christopher Lee and Lana Wood. She then starred as lawyer Pam Davidson on The Greatest American Hero, the girlfriend and foil to the main character. After Hero ended, she was released from her contract in time to audition for the part of promotions manager Christine Francis on the television drama Hotel, opposite James Brolin. She played this role from 1983 to 1988.^[6]

More recent work includes a role in the 2006 film The Wild Stallion.

Selleca was married to actor Gil Gerard throughout much of the 1980s.^[2] Since April 4, 1992, she has been married to infotainer/pianist and former Entertainment Tonight host John Tesh. They have a daughter, Prima.^[7] Like Tesh, Sellecca is a born-again Christian.^[8]

John Arthur Rubinstein (born December 8, 1946) is an American film, Broadway, and television actor, a composer of film and theatre music, and a director in theatre and television.

Early life[link]

Rubinstein was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Aniela (née Młynarska), a dancer and writer, and Polish-born concert pianist Arthur Rubinstein.^[1] Rubinstein's maternal grandfather was the Polish conductor Emil Młynarski. Rubinstein's father was Jewish, and his mother, who was raised in Warsaw, was Catholic.^[2]

He made his Broadway acting debut in 1972 and received a Theater World Award for creating the title role in the musical Pippin, directed by Bob Fosse. In 1980 he won the Tony, Drama Desk, Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, and Drama-Logue Awards for his portrayal of James Leeds in Mark Medoff's Children of a Lesser God, directed by Gordon Davidson. Other Broadway appearances were in Neil Simon's Fools, directed by Mike Nichols, and Herman Wouk's The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, which earned him a Drama Desk nomination; he replaced William Hurt as Eddie in David Rabe's Hurlyburly, replaced David Dukes in David Henry Hwang's M. Butterfly, and starred in Getting Away with Murder, by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth, directed by Jack O'Brien. In 1987, he made his off-Broadway debut at the Roundabout Theater as Guildenstern in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, with Stephen Lang and John Wood, and subsequently performed in Urban Blight and Cabaret Verboten. In 2005, he received the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Lead Actor in a Play, as well as nominations for both the Outer Critics’ and Drama League Awards, for his portrayal of George Simon in Elmer Rice's Counsellor-at-Law. In addition, he has made numerous appearances in regional theater productions.

Rubinstein's feature films include 21 Grams, Red Dragon, Mercy, Another Stakeout, Someone to Watch Over Me, Daniel, The Boys from Brazil opposite Laurence Olivier, Rome and Jewel, Jekyll, Kid Cop, Getting Straight, Zachariah, The Trouble with Girls, and The Car. Since 1965 he has acted in over 150 television films and series episodes. He received an Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal of Jeff Maitland in the series Family, a role he played for five years, co-starred for two years with Jack Warden in the series Crazy Like a Fox, and was featured in the miniseries Perfect Murder, Perfect Town. He has subsequently played recurring parts on Angel, The Guardian, The Practice, Star Trek: Enterprise, and BarberShop. In the series finale of Friends, he played the doctor who delivered Monica and Chandler's babies.

Rubinstein has composed, orchestrated, and conducted the musical scores for five feature films, including Jeremiah Johnson and The Candidate, as well as for over 150 television films and episodes. He spent six years as host for the radio program Carnegie Hall Tonight, broadcast on 180 stations in the United States and Canada, and two years as the keyboard player for the jazz-rock group Funzone. He has also recorded over sixty-five books on audio, including eighteen of the best-selling Alex Delaware novels by Jonathan Kellerman.

In 1987, Rubinstein made his directorial debut at the Williamstown Theater Festival, staging Aphra Behn's The Rover, with Christopher Reeve. He has continued to direct regional theater productions, as well as in television.

He originated the role of The Wizard in the Los Angeles production of the musical Wicked which opened on February 21, 2007. He ended his 18 month run on August 24, 2008 and was replaced by David Garrison.

Rubinstein appeared in the award winning short film The Delivery (2008) as the actor-from-hell in an audiobook recording and as the Mad Hatter. He currently teaches a course in musical theater audition techniques at the University of Southern California.^[3]

In 2011, Rubinstein provided commentary for the online broadcasting of the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition, a classical music competition held in Moscow, Russia.

Rubinstein has been married twice: to actress Judi West (1971–1989) and actress Jane Lanier (1992–2002).^[4] He has five children: Jessica, Michael (stage name Michael Weston), Peter, Jacob, and Max.
