The Malkovich Torment
www.alekseyigudesman.com THE MALKOVICH TORMENT is the final piece of the project "The Music Critic" premiered at Julian Rachlin & Friends festival 2010. The text is a translation from an original critic about an appearance of John Malkovich in Istanbul. The music is composed by Aleksey Igudesman. THE MUSIC CRITIC Schumann fancies himself a "composer" while Brahms is a gift-less bastard and Debussy is simply ugly. Igudesman has created a sardonic melange of the most evil original music critiques of the last centuries many of them written about some of the greatest works of chamber music. Malkovich slips into the role of the evil music critic, who believes the music of Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel and the like to be weary and dreary, while Julian Rachlin and other great musicians beg to differ. Music by Bach, Piazzolla, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Kanchelli, Prokofiev, Schumann and Igudesman. www.rachlinandfriends.com

Echoes of Sufi Chants - Kishori Amonkar Raag Todi 1 of 3
Kishori Amonkar (Marathi: किशोरी आमोणकर) (born April 10, 1931 in Mumbai) is a noted Indian classical vocalist. She sings khyal in the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana style. Kishori Amonkar's mother was Mogubai Kurdikar (1904-2001), a renowned classical vocalist. Kishori has a sister and a brother. According to a biography written by late Datta Marulkar, her father's name was Madhavdas Bhatiya. An article on her mother Mogubai by noted music critic Ramkrishna Bakre mentions that Kishori's father died when she was very young but does not mention the father's name. Amonkar quickly imbibed the nuances of the difficult Jaipur-Atrauli gharana of music. She has developed her own style which emphasizes the emotional content of musical notes while maintaining the rigor of the Jaipur "gaayaki" (singing style). Music critic Vamanrao Deshpande, who was also her guru-bandhu, had hailed her as one of the greatest artists of 20th century. She has dabbled more in lighter forms of music than the earlier generations of Jaipur Gharana musicians. Popularly known as Gana Saraswati (translation: the Saraswati of Singing), Kishori Amonkar has received the following awards: Padma Vibhushan (2002) Rashtrapati Award Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1985) Sangeet Samragni Award (Translation: Queen of Singing) (1997) Padma Bhushan (1987)

The Beatles - I've Just Seen A Face
The Beatles - I've Just Seen A Face 1965 "I've Just Seen a Face" is a song by The Beatles. It appears on their 1965 UK album Help!, although in the United States it first appeared on the Capitol version of the Rubber Soul album along with "It's Only Love". According to music critic Richie Unterberger of allmusic, "Several songs on 1964's Beatles for Sale, as well as "I'll Cry Instead" from A Hard Day's Night, had leaned in a country and western direction. But "I've Just Seen a Face" was almost pure country, taken at such a fast tempo that it might have been bluegrass if not for the absence of banjo and fiddle." Music critic Ian MacDonald said the up tempo song "lifted the later stages of the Help! album with its quickfire freshness." Capitol Records chose it as the lead track of the US edition of Rubber Soul, with the intent of giving the album a strong folk sound in step with the then-current Folk Rock movement The song was recorded on 14 June 1965 at Abbey Road Studios in London in the same session with "Yesterday" and "I'm Down". * Paul McCartney -- vocal, acoustic guitar * John Lennon -- acoustic guitar * George Harrison -- acoustic lead guitar * Ringo Starr -- brushed snare, maracas In other news, I have added the lyrics to this song so you can sing along, or perhaps learn the song! This is how I learned my first Beatles song! Enjoy :) Album: Help!

Hear Me by Imagine Dragons
If you like Imagine Dragons, read my full review and listen to more of their music here! gcmusic.tmblr.net Imagine Dragons is a young band with young members, but these kids aren't wasting any time. As a Las Vegas Weekly music critic explained, "While the atmosphere is electric, the band still seems restrained by the small setting . . . its members are hungry for more." Their insatiable appetite for greatness drives them to long hours of practice and a hefty workload of songwriting and performances. The restless energy of Imagine Dragons is infectious.

Moonlight Sonata Classical Guitar Eric Henderson
www.EricHenderson.org Classical Guitar - Moonlight Sonata Eric Henderson is one of only three people to study privately with the master guitarist Andres Segovia. Eric Henderson spent several years in Spain learning the intricacies of the classical guitar, while playing as much as 12 hours a day. In addition to studying with Andres Segovia, Henderson has studied guitar with Christopher Parkening, Angel Romero, Ernesto Bitetti, Emilio Pujol and Antonia Morales. He has spent time studying Baroque interpretation with Ton Koopman and Henk Dekker, and theory and composition with Aureo Hererro. While Eric was in Spain he also had the honor of studying with the great composer Federico Moreno Torroba, perfecting the interpretation of Torrobas Sonatina in A. Eric Henderson's new CD "Homage" and DVD "Homage Guitar Masterpieces" are a collection of pieces he has studied, arranged and performed over the last four decades. Both the CD and DVD include pieces by Bach, Villa Lobos, and other standards of the classical guitar. Eric also performs his arrangements of Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix and the Jagger song, Paint it Black as well three original compositions. Ludwig van Beethoven, is popularly known for his "Moonlight" Sonata . The work was completed in 1801 and rumored to be dedicated to his pupil, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi. Ponchielli's The Dance of The Hours, DISNEY, ostriches, hippos and crocodiles
WALT DISNEY's flick from FANTASIA (1940), The music was recorded under the direction of Leopold Stokowski, who is featured in Deems Taylor (an American composer and music critic) introductions, and seven of the eight pieces were performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra.. This interesting movie shows us how Disney, never content with being an entertainer and businessman, had intellectual pretensions, magnificently realized in Fantasia. The film won two Special Academy Awards in 1941: * Walt Disney, William E. Garity and JNA Hawkins — For their outstanding contribution to the advancement of the use of sound in motion pictures through the production of Fantasia (certificate). * Leopold Stokowski (and his associates) — For their unique achievement in the creation of a new form of visualized music in Walt Disney's production Fantasia, thereby widening the scope of the motion picture as entertainment and as an art form (certificate). In 1990, Fantasia was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Fantasia has been twice recognized by the American Film Institute: * 1998 AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movies #58 * 2008 AFI's 10 Top 10 #5 animated film Dance of the Hours (Italian, Danza Delle Ore) is a short ballet depicting the passage of time which occurs in Act III Scene 2 of the opera La Gioconda composed by Amilcare Ponchielli. Death - Politicians In My Eyes (1976)
From Wikipedia: Death was a band formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1971 by the brothers Bobby (bass, vocals), David (guitar), and Dannis (drums) Hackney. The African-American trio started out as an R&B band but switched to rock after seeing an Alice Cooper show.[1] Music critic Peter Margasak retrospectively wrote of their musical direction, "The youngest of the brothers, guitarist David, pushed the group in a hard-rock direction that presaged punk, and while this certainly didnt help them find a following in the mid-70s, today it makes them look like visionaries."

Alan Hovhaness - Celestial Fantasy op. 44
Alan Hovhaness (Armenian: Ալան Հովհանես) (March 8, 1911 - June 21, 2000) was an American composer of Armenian and Scottish ancestry. His music is accessible to the lay listener and often evokes a mood of mystery or contemplation. The Boston Globe music critic Richard Buell wrote: "Although he has been stereotyped as a self-consciously Armenian composer (rather as Ernest Bloch is seen as a Jewish composer), his output assimilates the music of many cultures. What may be most American about all of it is the way it turns its materials into a kind of exoticism. The atmosphere is hushed, reverential, mystical, nostalgic." He was among the most prolific of 20th century composers, his official catalog comprising 67 numbered symphonies (surviving manuscripts indicate over 70) and 434 opus numbers. However, the true tally is well over 500 surviving works since many opus numbers comprise two or more distinct works.
