In his letter to Washington he said that the Citizenship requirement for the office of the commander of our armies should contain a "strong check" against foreign influence and he recommended to Washington that the command of the military be open only to a "natural born Citizen". Thus Jay did not agree that simply being a "born Citizen" was sufficient enough protection from foreign influence in the singular most powerful office in the new form of government. Rather, Jay wanted to make sure the President and Commander In Chief owed his allegiance solely to the United States of America. He wanted another adjective added to the eligibility clause, ie, 'natural'. And that word 'natural' goes to the Citizenship status of one's parents via natural law. Below is the relevant change to Hamilton's proposed language detailed in Jay's letter written to George ...

Importance of Caucasus for the United States
The US interests in the Caucasus are related to the Azerbaijani and Georgian geographical positions, natural resources, economic influence, energy routes and the Afghanistan Plan. The indispensable strategic position of Azerbaijan makes the country unique. As the country is located between Russia and Iran it serves as a transit state but also a buffer zone for the two. No other country can offer the United States a stronghold that can play a double role. Now consider the economic influence and natural resources of the country and the importance of Azerbaijan increases. Add to this the alternative energy route for Europe that passes through Azerbaijan and Georgia. Then think of the crucial role Azerbaijan plays in the Northern Distribution Network, and the immense value of Azerbaijan and Georgia for the United States is revealed.

Sergio Vellatti - Georgia on My Mind
"Georgia on My Mind" is a song written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael (music) and Stuart Gorrell (lyrics). It is the official state song of the US state of Georgia. Gorrell wrote the lyrics for Hoagy's sister, Georgia Carmichael. However, the lyrics of the song are ambiguous enough to refer either to the state or to a woman named "Georgia". The song was first recorded on September 15, 1930 in New York by Hoagy Carmichael and His Orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke on muted cornet and Hoagy Carmichael on vocals. The recording was part of Bix Beiderbecke's last recording session. The most recognized version of "Georgia on My Mind" was recorded by Ray Charles, a native of Georgia, in 1960. The song was featured in his album "The Genius Hits the Road" and It became Georgia's state song in 1979. Many other performing artists including: Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald and Billy Holiday have recorded the song throughout the years. The track used for my rendition is based off of Michael Buble's recording, which can be found on his album "Crazy Love". Thank you all for your continued encouragement and support! U.S. Navy readies aid for Republic of Georgia
SOUDA BAY, Crete (Aug 21, 2008) - Two U.S. Navy ships and a U.S. Coast Guard cutter are getting underway to transport humanitarian relief supplies to Georgia. These deployments are part of the larger United States response to the government of Georgia request for humanitarian assistance. USS McFaul (DDG 74) departed from Souda Bay, Crete, Aug. 20, and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Dallas (WHEC 716) will leave later this week. McFaul and Dallas are scheduled to transit into the Black Sea and arrive in Georgia within a week. USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20) is currently on loading humanitarian relief materials in her homeport of Gaeta, Italy, and will proceed to Georgia later this month.
The ships will deliver thousands of blankets, hygiene kits, baby food and infant care supplies to save lives and alleviate human suffering. These surface ships represent the first from the U.S. to participate in the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Georgia. Both McFaul, based in Norfolk and Dallas, based in Charleston, S.C., are on regularly scheduled deployments in the 6th Fleet area of responsibility. (U.S. Navy video/Released)

Georgia: Coal and Carbon
Coal is the most abundant fossil fuel and the least expensive one used to generate electricity in the US. It's also the source of many local problems, including those caused by strip mining and mountaintop removal, as well as disposal of toxic coal ash. But the biggest threat of all may be to the entire planet: burning coal releases large amounts of carbon dioxide, or CO2 — and carbon dioxide is a major contributor to climate change.
Scientists say if the world continues emitting carbon dioxide following current trends, the average global temperature could rise by 7 degrees Fahrenheit or more by the year 2100, and by 9 degrees or more in the U.S. The oceans, expanding as they warm and flooded with melt-water from glaciers and ice sheets on land, could rise between two and five feet.
In Georgia, a state that gets 60 percent of its electricity from coal (the national average is 50 percent), residents are already worried about the effects on their state's economy and ecology. As the temperature rises, the Live Oak — the state tree — could find it hard to thrive. Coastal cities like Savannah, meanwhile, will be under increasing threat from the rising sea.
Like others across the country, Georgians are connecting the dots between how they get their electricity and what the future holds for their lives. As a result, they’re trying to figure out how to cut down on the CO2 emitted by burning coal.
One answer might be to reduce the amount of coal used — but coal is abundant and inexpensive, and therefore hard to give up. Yet it's also possible to reduce the amount of CO2 that comes from a coal-fired power plant. That's the idea behind "clean coal" or, to use the more technical term, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). CCS technology could capture as much as 90% of the carbon dioxide emitted from coal power plants and pipe it deep underground, into porous formations of rock and sand that can absorb the CO2 and prevent its escape to the atmosphere.
CCS technology appears to be viable, but implementing it at large scales is still at least a decade away. It also will require billions of dollars in investment, and some states, like Georgia, are less geologically suitable for storing carbon dioxide than others. CCS will make electricity from coal more expensive. And some opponents worry about whether any underground location can truly contain the CO2.
The wider debate about clean coal and CCS is being played out on television, through a multimillion-dollar advertising war. Opponents say coal is a “dirty rock” that can’t be wiped clean with an advertising campaign. They insist that even if the CO2 problem is fixed, mining, ash disposal and combustion will keep coal from being truly clean. The other side emphasizes the fact that coal is inexpensive, that the U.S. has domestic reserves that could last two hundred years or more, and that using coal is a prime way to help the U.S. remain competitive with fast-growing economies like China and India — both of which are major coal users.
Even if CCS ultimately proves to be successful on a wide scale, experts say that there are steps people can immediately pursue to get a head start on reducing carbon dioxide emissions. "Efficiency is the first fuel that we should be going to," says Stephen Smith, Executive Director for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.
Others point out that reducing CO2 emissions to the degree needed to avoid major climate change will require not only efficiency improvements, but also a portfolio of options. CCS, they say, could be one such option.
Toward that end, the federal government is currently directing some stimulus funding to help demonstrate CCS technologies. Meanwhile, Congress is debating legislation to regulate carbon-dioxide emissions. If such legislation is approved, that could ultimately provide the necessary incentive for coal-burning companies to invest billions of dollars in CCS — the amount needed to make CCS a reality.

Massive Fireball Meteorite explosion over South Carolina,Alabama & Georgia (2/14/2012)
See also South Carolina News posting-www.charlotteobserver.com (Monday, Feb. 13, 2012) So, just what was that in the sky this morning? Some upstate South Carolina residents reported seeing a fireball and hearing a large boom around 1:45 am today. But so far, the National Weather Service hasn't been able to confirm that it was a meteor. "There's no evidence of anything actually striking the ground," said meterologist Harry Gerapetritis, of the National Weather Service office in Greer, SC "So it must have burned up in the sky, as best anybody can tell." Gerapetritis said the calls came in from Spartanburg, Greenville and Cherokee counties. He said meteor sightings are rare. "We have occasionally received these calls over the years but this one appears to have been exceptionally bright and it must have been accompanied by a sonic boom as well, so I believe that's why it encouraged so much interest."

Tough Mudder Atlanta - Washington, Georgia 2012 - All Obstacles - Head Mounted GoPro Hero2 Sat
12 miles, 27 obstacles EDIT - Blog breaking down the obstacles - edgewatermedia.wordpress.com This is a compilation of my run at the Tough Mudder competition in Atlanta (Washington, GA) at Aonia Motocross Track. Obviously the film is sped up and chopped some. It was originally 2 hrs and the best I could do was 20 minutes. I will probably upload each obstacle at real time because I know there are plenty of future Mudders that will be researching the obstacles just like I did. The weekend before the event, it was sunny and 80 degrees. Then a major cold front hit on Saturday morning bringing the high down to the 40's with a 20mph wind that blew constantly all day long. It was even colder for the Sunday runners. A few notes: The Gopro Hero2 was awesome, and the footage shows how well it performed. Sadly the battery died at the next to last obstacle, but I didn't limit my recording in the woods like I should have. It will be a lot easier to manage your battery and to tell if you are recording once they release the wireless remote (gopro.com Everyone asks what the worst obstacle is, and I have to say the Arctic Enema.
