BREAKING NEWS SYRIA: Defence minister (Assad's Brother in Law) KILLED by SUICIDE BOMBER (bodyguard)
BREAKING NEWS SYRIA: Defence minister (Assad's Brother in Law) KILLED by SUICIDE BOMBER (bodyguard) On the same day that a suicide bomber killed the Syrian Minister of Defense, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that supporting the Syrian opposition while demanding that President Bashar al-Assad step down will lead to an impasse. "If the policy based on support for the opposition continues -- a policy leading to an impasse, since Assad will not go on his own -- and all of these mantra calls that he must step down are rooted in hopelessness,"Lavrov told reporters in Moscow. The Russian minister warned against the temptation for outside forces to play favorites with any side in the crisis. Lavrov's comments came on the same day that Syrian Defense Minister Gen. Daoud Rajha was killed by a suicide bombing attack at a national security building in Damascus. His deputy -- Assad's brother-in-law Assef Shawkat -- was also mortally wounded by the blast. Operation Damascus Volcano -- as the rebels have dubbed their assault -- has been announced, Lavrov conceded. However, it would amount to "direct support for the revolutionary movement" if the international community passes a resolution that "unilaterally forbids the government from responding [to the increasing violence]." Moscow hopes the masterminds of the terrorist attack in Damascus will be punished. "Moscow strongly condemns all forms and manifestations of terrorism," Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said ...

North Korean Rocket Launch Fails
Friday, April 13, 2012 11:21 +0900 (JST) North Korea has launched what it called a satellite-carrying rocket but the projectile disintegrated soon after the launch. Japan's Defense Ministry says debris fell into the Yellow Sea, without affecting Japanese territory. The ministry says a US early warning satellite system confirmed the launch at about 7:40 AM, Japan Time. The projectile was launched from the western coast of North Korea toward the south and flew for more than one minute. A Defense Ministry official says the projectile reached an altitude of about 120 kilometers before it disintegrated into around 10 pieces. They are thought to have fallen into the Yellow Sea west of the Korean Peninsula. The official says none of the pieces reached Japanese territory. The National Police Agency and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency say there are no reports of damage. The Defense Ministry is closely analyzing the trajectory using data provided by the US military and obtained by Aegis destroyers from Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force. Two Aegis destroyers have been positioned in the East China Sea around Okinawa, and another in the Sea of Japan. Cedits: NHK World English W1TV 10 MINUTES www.w1tv.com.br

Iran inaugurated upgrade line of air-defence system
Uploaded by: www.facebook.com The line was inaugurated in an official ceremony here in Tehran attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli. During the ceremony, another line was also inaugurated for overhauling and optimizing low-altitude smart air defense system. Addressing the ceremony, Vahidi said that optimizing the system will increase Iran's operation power in low-altitude and in defending sensitive and strategic areas against warplanes, choppers, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as well as air-to-ground missiles. On Monday, the Iranian Defense Ministry unveiled the country's first home-made laser-guided smart munitions, called Bassir. During the ceremony on Monday, Vahidi told reporters that the new munitions are suitable to target static and mobile targets with high precision strike. Vahidi had earlier said that Iran plans to display several home-made achievements in different military and technological fields in the near future. New home-made satellite carrier rockets, smart ammunition, aeronautic products, as well as new electronic and telecommunication devices will be unveiled, Vahidi told reporters after a cabinet meeting here in Tehran on Sunday. He said that the new products would be unveiled during the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies from February 1 to 11, celebrating the victory of the Islamic Revolution back in 1979. english.farsnews.com

Iran inaugurated production line of "Dehlavieh" ATGM
Uploaded by: www.facebook.com EHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced on Tuesday that his ministry plans to start mass-production of new anti-armor weapon systems in the near future. Addressing a ceremony to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Iran's Former Defense Minister Mostafa Chamran (1981), Vahidi said that Iran has named its new anti-armor weapon as 'Dehlavieh', the name of the place where Dr. Chamran was martyred. "God-willing, the mass-production line of the new (anti-armor) system will be inaugurated in the new future," Vahidi said, declining to provide details of the new system. Last August, the Iranian Defense Ministry started mass-production of 73-mm anti-armor rockets capable of piercing and destroying armored vehicles from a 1300-meter distance. "The weapon is mobile and due to its low weight, it can be carried by an individual trooper," Vahidi told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony held to launch the production line of the rocket at the time. Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes. Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country. english.farsnews.com

Egypt clashes video: Troops water-cannon protesters at Cairo rally
Egyptian armed forces and protesters clashed in the capital Cairo on Friday, with troops firing water cannon and tear gas at demonstrators who threw stones as they tried to march on the Defense Ministry in the Abbasiyah district, a flashpoint for a new cycle of violence only weeks ahead of presidential elections. The troops fired water cannon at protesters and hurled stones at them to keep them from advancing. The protesters took shelter behind metal sheets snatched from a nearby construction site and hurled back stones. Others climbed the roof of a nearby university and showered soldiers with rocks from above. The troops then opened up with heavy volleys of tear gas that pushed the demonstrators back. The Health Ministry reported eight protesters were injured. The security forces also appeared to sustain casualties. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

UK Gets Sound Gun for 2012 Olympics
Transcript by Newsy: www.youtube.com (Image source: PressTV) BY NATHAN BYRNE ANCHOR CHRISTIAN BRYANT Britain's military is making some noise about an addition to its security arsenal for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The Long Range Acoustic Device, or LRAD, is a sonic gun that can be used as a high-volume loudspeaker or a non-lethal weapon. Firstpost reports the sound gun has been used to control crowds like the one seen here in Pittsburgh's 2009 G20 summit. The UK Ministry of Defence confirms the pain-inducing sound gun will be used at the Olympic games, but tells RT ... " ... its primary function will be as a powerful loudspeaker to halt boats traveling along the river. ... he refrained from mentioning whether or not the LRAD would be used for riot control during the Olympics." A writer for The Mirror says some versions of the LRAD can produce deafening 150-decibel sounds at three feet. That's the same sound level you'd get right next to the speakers at a very loud rock concert. To boot, the device also causes a compression sensation like what you'd feel with your head underwater. The US-based LRAD Corporation makes the sonic device. According to the BBC ... "The manufacturer denies it is a weapon ... A spokesman for the San Diego-based LRAD Corporation said the 1000Xi was 'an effective long range communications system ... to peacefully resolve uncertain situations'." The Associated Press reports LRAD Corporation previously sold the device to the US Army for crowd control ...

Build up to WW3: UK blocks Russian ship with 'WAR HELICOPTERS' on board bound for SYRIA
Build up to WW3: UK blocks Russian ship with 'WAR HELICOPTERS' on board bound for SYRIA A Russian cargo ship stopped near Scotland has been forced to turn back to home shores as the UK-based insurer withdrew the vessel's cover. Western media are mired in speculation over alleged Russian supplies to Syria. The MV Alaed, a multipurpose twin-deck cargo vessel was proceeding through the North Sea when it was stopped by the UK marine insurer the Standard Club some 50 miles (80.4km) off Scotland. The ship was halted after the US told the insurer Washington suspected the vessel was heading to Syria, carrying MI25 helicopters known as "flying tanks" and other choppers. "We are aware of a ship carrying a consignment of refurbished Russian-made attack helicopters heading to Syria," the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said in the statement. The Standard Club Company withdrew the vessel's insurance, making it difficult for the ship to dock legally in ports. On Tuesday the MV Alaed had to head back to Russia, noted UK Foreign Secretary William Hague. The insurer also canceled all licenses belonging to Russia's FEMCO Group, under which the cargo vessel operated. Standard Club explained its decision saying that FEMCO Group had "broken internal rules" of the company -- a mutual insurance association. "We are working closely with international partners to ensure that we are doing all we can to stop the Syrian regime's ability to slaughter civilians being reinforced through ...

Report: Mossad Steps Up Security for London Olympic Games after Terrorist Attack in Bulgaria
Defense officials here in Jerusalem are denying a British report that the Mossad has increased security in London following the recent terrorist attack in Bulgaria that left 5 Israelis dead. Quoting unnamed sources in Tel Aviv, The Sunday Times says Israel has put more undercover intelligence agents on the ground before the Olympic Games open out of fear that Hezbollah and Iran may carry out another attack, this time on Israeli athletes... Is the suicide bus bombing in Bulgaria a prelude to a much bigger terrorist attack in London...that's the question Israeli officials are now asking... Finding the answer grew more urgent over the weekend when evidence led Israeli officials to conclude a second Hezbollah-affiliated terrorist helped the suicide bus bomber. It's believed he fled Bulgaria with significant amounts of explosives. Could London be his next stop? According to The Sunday Times, the 2nd terrorist is using a US passport with the name David Jefferson. The British paper says the Mossad is already scouting for him in London... Newly-dispatched undercover agents are reportedly also looking for other suspected Iranian-backed terrorists, intent on foiling any nefarious plans...some have even been sent to survey Iranian embassies in other European capitals. Israeli Defense Ministry Official Maj-Gen. Amos Gilad dismissed the British report, saying intelligence services do not operate by dispatching agents to quote "chase down ghosts." He said there was no concrete threat ...

Iran Military Industry produces aircraft black box "Shahed"
Iran has started to substitute older versions of black boxes on its military aircraft and helicopters with new home made version of the device. On Tuesday the defense minister of the Islamic Republic Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi inaugurated the production line of the module named "Shahed" or witness. The system is compatible with a wide range of aircraft. Iran also started the optimization and overhaul of its Low Altitude Air Defense systems. According to the defense ministry, upgrading such systems will enhance Iran's capability in protecting the country's strategic sites against possible air attacks. The commander of the Iranian Army's Khatam al- Anbia Air Defense Base says that the process of overhaul and optimizing air defense systems has been carried out by Iranian experts for the first time. Iran launched an arms development program during the 1980 to 1988 Iraq-Iran war. The aim was to reduce the country's dependence on foreign defense technology after the US halted its arms sales to Iran. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes. Iran's defense ministry says that it will soon unveil other military products that are built by Iranian experts.
