LANAI HAWAII SNORKEL AND SURF
jonesfamilytravels.com While staying as guests of the Lanai Four Seasons at Manele Bay, last week we were supposed to go out in the Trilogy catamaran for a snorkel sail adventure. Well, instead, this HUGE southern swell came in and literally closed out the harbor exit at Manele Bay! From our Four Seasons rooms, we could also see the surfers pile into Manele Bay for waves that are seldom seen in this normally calm bay. Our captain, Ricky, managed to at least get us out on a sailing adventure around half the island of Lanai, passing by Sweetheart Island, Manele Bay, the Lanai Four Seasons at Manele Bay, the wedding location for Bill Gates, and more. The video doesn't do justice to these Hawaiian waves at Lanai. Some were as tall as the mast on our catamaran! We did get the chance to jump in the water at Shark Fin Bay, but it was way too murky to see anything. Plus, murky water is home to SHARKS! One of the guests on another Trilogy vessel that comes to Lana'i from Maui say two Tiger sharks and got pictures!!! Super cool, but I don't want to be "that guy." After about an hour snorkel sail with Trilogy, we went back to the Lana'i Four Seasons and Manele Bay for a bento box lunch and some time at the beach. I filmed some of the locals out catching these unique waves in Manele Bay. The shore break was absolutely amazing! Finally, we caught the ferry back to Maui for a nice evening at dinner and then on to our next resort, The Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea. About Lanai You won't ...

Safari Boats, Exploring the Liberty Shipwreck on Lanai - Tom Barefoot's Tours
I've been going on these sorts of excursions with my Dad since I was a small child and exploring the liberty ship that is grounded at shipwreck beach on Lanai has always been a fantasy that I've had, that has never materialized into reality until today. Before I go into an account of the day I want to go over what factors contribute to this being such a special experience, mainly the wind and the surf conditions. The first thing that made today possible was the wind. The winds we have in Hawaii that we refer to as the trade winds are some of the strongest, most consistent winds in the world that blow about three hundred of the three hundred and sixty-five days of the year. These winds come out of the North East and get funneled through the channel between Molokai and Maui then accelerate westward to the low lying island of Lanai where they issue beatings to the North and Eastern coastline of Lanai on an almost daily basis. These winds were absent today so the water conditions resembled a swimming pool instead of the normal choppy conditions with heavy onshore winds. We were also a flat period between our large winter swells so the wave size was very small which is also rare this time of year. So anyway the point I am trying to make is this was a one in a million Lanai day. Now about the journey around the shipwreck. When my friend Bill and I got in the water at the shipwreck we were immediately greeted by a medium sized sea Turtle. I followed the turtle around for a while ...

Singing to the World (feat. Lana'i Class of 2020)
Please visit: www.HawaiiKidsSing.com and donate today! Recording also available for purchase on iTunes itunes.apple.com What started as an ordinary poetry assignment by LHES fourth grade teacher Sandy Patterson turned into something much, much more. First, through the creative energy inspired by writing about peace, the poems became lyrics. Then, with the help of talented local music instructor and composer Matt Glickstein, the song, "Singing to the World" was born. The children's passion inspired ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro to accompany them in a music video. And this inspiring story just got better from there for the kids and small community that started it all. On Saturday and Sunday, April 14th and 15th, the video "Singing to the World," was played at two public events featuring His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Visit www.pillarsofpeacehawaii.org for more information. The success of student-driven efforts like this inspire children to put their hearts into their education. And you can help make them possible at at Lana'i High and Elementary School. In the short time they have been working on this song, teachers have noticed an improvement in our students' writing skills, test scores and overall literacy. Please help us raise funds to put towards collaborative music and literacy projects just like this. We need your financial support today to help keep our arts and music program alive -- and to create opportunities just like these for our students to succeed. Help our ...

Lanai Deer Hunt 2012
The long awaited documentation of my 2012 Lanai Deer Hunt. Taking you from Maui over to the Isle of Lanai to do some hunting for the elusive Axis Deer. Conditions were not ideal and the drought really affected the animals and their habitat. Most bucks were still in velvet and still growing! But it was Big Buck or Bust........ fortunately down to the wire the magical Unicorn buck appeared which I had heard of from a story my partner Okita told me of! All in all a great trip with a lot of ripping going on as you can see! Enjoy as CoCo Outfitters teams up with Team PSE for some fun Hunting on Lanai!
