Bamba Baby Won't Be Israel's Mascot: Olympic Committee Cancels Choice of Osem Company's Logo
Bamba Baby Won't Be Israel's Mascot: Olympic Committee Cancels Choice of Osem Company's Logo
Following harsh public criticism, Israel's Olympic Committee canceled its decision to make the Osem company's Bamba baby logo the official mascot for the Israeli team during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The Bamba snack food is a popular Israeli corn and peanut-based snack that Israelis have enjoyed for many decades, and many in the country are fond of the cartoon toddler character. However, a lot of Israelis objected to the committee's decision to use a corporate symbol to represent the nation of Israel, especially because the Osem company intended to pay the Israeli Olympics Committee an undisclosed amount for the privilege. Also, during the social protest movement in 2011, activists boycotted Osem for its high prices. Israeli Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat had advised the Israeli Olympic Committee to reconsider its decision, and now that the Bamba baby decision has been canceled, they are looking for a new mascot to accompany their athletes to the Olympics this summer.

Joseph's Tomb in flames after murder of Jewish worshiper_24-04-2011
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu (IsraelnationalnewsDotcom) Palestinian Authority Arabs set fire to Kever Yosef near Shechem Sunday morning several hours after PA policemen gunned down Jewish worshippers, killing one of them. Eyewitnesses saw smoke billowing over the tomb, which Arabs have frequently desecrated in the past. The murder victim, 24-year-old Ben Yosef Chai, a nephew of Likud Minister Limor Livnat, is to be buried Sunday afternoon, several hours before the beginning of the last day of the seven-day Passover holiday Sunday evening. PA police killed Livnat and wounded four others by opening fire on their cars after they prayed at Kever Yosef and were returning home. The IDF and mainstream media reported the shooting spree as an "incident" and not an attack although the worshippers were known to the PA as frequent visitors to the holy site. Monthly visits are coordinated with the IDF, which hurriedly stated after Sunday's murder that the victims of the PA police assault did not confirm their visit to the site with the military. The IDF called the shooting attack an "incident."
