I Married Joan S1-38 2/2 "Business Executive" 7/1/1953
"Business Executive" Director: Marc Daniels. In Part 2, Joan finds out from Brad's secretary that he really doesn't want to be a business executive. Brad literally drags Joan to a fur salon to buy her a mink coat for a dinner that evening with his new boss. There they meet Aggie and Harry, played brilliantly by Joe Besser ("Stinky" of the Abbott and Costello show and one of the Curly alters of "The Three Stooges,") and Shirley Mitchell, a lovely young actress with flawless comedic chops who guested on many 1950s sitcoms including "I Love Lucy" and "Make Room for Daddy." This is the stuff of which classic comedy is made. It is comedic poetry in motion to watch these four pros play off each other. Enjoy. PS-The brunette saleslady in the fur salon is Jim Backus' real-life wife, Henny. Click Like on the Joan Davis facebook page: www.facebook.com

I Married Joan S1-15 "Uncle Edgar" 01/21/1953
"Uncle Edgar" Director: Marc Daniels. Writers: Arthur Stander, Sol Saks, Richard Powell. Brad's cantankerous Uncle Edgar (Robert Sweeney) is coming for a 3-day visit. This "randy" senior has a reputation with the ladies and has already left a string of broken hearts on previous visits, so Brad and Joan try to keep him at home. Edgar sabotages a popcorn popper in order to sneak out of the house. Joan and Brad discover that he has gone to the "sunshine social club" to meet potential conquests. The manager (Robert Jellison-Bobby the Bellboy in "I Love Lucy") mistakes Joan for an applicant, and summons "Mr. Hotchkiss," who abruptly whisks her into an outrageous tango, the Roger Wagner Chorale's version of "La Cumparsita." In an effort to cool Uncle Edgar's jets, Joan assumes the identity of "Aunt Susie," hoping that he will calm down if he meets a woman who is indifferent to his advances. Of course it backfires and the old fellow is fired up even more! Features Kathleen Freeman (Lena Lamont's diction coach in "Singing in the Rain".) Miss Freeman had a recurring role as "Betty," a friend and neighbor. She also can be seen in S1-09 "Birthday" as a woman Joan meets in a dress shop. Also featured are Dorothy Adams, Robert Pike, and Richard Kean. For more info on Joan Davis, access her Facebook page @www.facebook/joandaviscomedian.com

Edie Adams - That's All (I Love Lucy Series Finale)
From the episode, "Lucy Meets the Moustache" of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. The song meant so much more since it was the last episode of the popular I Love Lucy series. Lucy and Desi were also divorcing after a long tumultuous marriage. They still loved each other very much, but the problems that plagued the marriage couldn't keep them together. However, they remained friends even after they married other people, and when Desi died, Lucy was devastated. So in a sense, this song was meaningful for them both. All that they could give each other was love....that's all. The last lines of the show.... Lucy: "Honey, honey, I just wanted to help." Ricky: "From now on, you can help me by not trying to help me. But thanks, anyway." --- That's All Lyrics & Music by Alan Brandt and Bob Haymes, 1952 [brackets indicate Edie Adams' variation on the song] I can only give you love that lasts forever And a [the] promise to be near each time you call And the only heart I own for you and you alone That's all, that's all I can only give you country walks in springtime And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall And a love whose burning light will warm the winter night That's all, that's all There are those I am sure [who] have told you They would give you the world for a toy All I have are these arms to enfold you And a love even time can't destroy [And a love time can never destroy] If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear You'll be glad to know that my demands are small Say it's ...

Doris Singleton I Love Lucy Actress Dead at 92
Actress and comedienne Doris Singleton Isaacs, who recurred on "I Love Lucy" as Lucy's near-sighted neighbor and sometimes nemesis Carolyn Appleby, died Tuesday. She was 92. Singleton guested in a large number of both comedies and dramas during her 30-plus career in television. After performing as a featured dancer with the American Ballet Theater in her teens, the Brooklyn-born Dorthea Singleton began in showbiz as a vocalist with Art Jarrett's orchestra in the late 1930s. Her distinctive voice led to a career in radio, where she was an actress on "The Whistler" and other shows during WWII, performing at times with the likes of George Burns & Gracie Allens, Bob Hope and Jack Benny. Singleton met Lucille Ball in the late 1940s during a performance of the radio show "My Favorite Husband"; a few years later, Ball invited Singleton to join the cast of TV's "I Love Lucy" as Carolyn Appleby. Singleton appeared on 10 episodes of the show from 1953 to 1957. By the mid-1950s the actress was busy with TV guest appearances on programs including "Adventures of Superman," "The Loretta Young Show," "The Great Gildersleeve," "The Bob Hope Show" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." Singleton also appeared in a few feature films during the 1950s: "Terror at Midnight," "Affair in Reno" and "Voice in the Mirror." She was a series regular on the brief 1960 series "Angel," recurred on "My Three Sons" as Margaret Williams and guested on "The Munsters," "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Gomer Pyle ...

I Married Joan S1-24 "Diet" 06/25/1953
"Diet" Director: Marc Daniels. Writers: Arthur Stander, Frank Tarloff, Ben Starr. The episode opens with Joan and Brad coming home from a date celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary. When Brad has some difficulty carrying Joan over the threshold he suggests that she has gained some weight over the years. She weighs herself and discovers that she is now 123 pounds, 7 pounds more than her 116-pound "wedding weight." She has signed a contract to appear on television for charity, her ladies' club's "Children's Aid Fund". It stipulates that because she has used the product, a low calorie salad dressing, she has maintained her weight since her wedding. She has 3 days to lose it. The druggist sends her appetite stimulants instead of suppressants, but she finally manages to lose the weight with the help of her friends from the ladies' club. The day of the broadcast, after starving herself for 3 days prior, she succumbs to an irresistible impulse when she sees all the delicious food presented in the commercial. Features Geraldine Carr as Mabel and Henny Backus (Jim's real-life wife) as Harriet. Make sure you visit the Joan Davis facebook page at: www.facebook.com/JoanDavisComedian

My Little Margie (3x14) "What's Cooking?"
My Little Margie is an American situation comedy that alternated between CBS and NBC from 1952 to 1955. The series was created by Frank Fox & George Carleton Brown and produced in Los Angeles, California at Hal Roach Studios by Hal Roach, Jr. and Roland D. Reed. My Little Margie premiered on CBS as the summer replacement for I Love Lucy on June 16, 1952, under the sponsorship of Philip Morris cigarettes. Its success prompted NBC, at the sponsor's request, to give it a regular berth - Saturday at 7:30 pm(et) - on its fall schedule, where it lasted for two months. In January 1953, it returned to CBS [Thursdays, 10pm(et)], where it remained until July. Two months later, it was back on NBC (for new sponsor Scott Paper Company) on Wednesday nights at 8:30, where its final broadcast was on August 24, 1955. In an unusual move, the series -- with the same leads -- aired original episodes on CBS Radio, concurrently with the TV broadcasts, from December 1952 through August 1955. Only 23 radio broadcasts are known to exist in recorded form. creativecommons.org
