Zhaoming Wu Chinese Painter FOR ADULT NUDE Tomorrow City SARAH VAUGHAN
Zhaoming Wu is a Chinese-born painter. Wu grew up in Guangzhou City, China. and he received his BFA from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and his MFA from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, California.Zhaoming Wu grew up during the Cultural Revolution. At the age of 8 the government closed the schools and he had to leave. He spent his days copying comic books and studying Chinese brush painting from a book. When he was 12, his mother, a doctor, recognizing his talent asked a patient, a professor at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, to train her son. Following his graduation from high school, Wu took a job as a graphic artist for an advertising agency which required that he take classes every morning in graphic design from the Shanghai Light Industrial College. He credits that early work for honing his skills and for helping him to understand how to use imagery to tell a story. Both an artist and a teacher, Wu served as a professor of painting at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He currently teaches painting at the Academy of Art University. Wu lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.Wu focuses on figurative work, using live models, mainly women draped in cloth, although his repertoire includes landscapes and portraits. The curves of the body and folds in cloth remind Wu of nature, such as mountains, water, and sunrise and sunset. Wu's style is impressionistic and moody. It has evolved from initially painting "quickly and spontaneously" with exaggerated values and ...

euronews le mag - Ai Weiwei furious at parody video disappearance
www.euronews.com Dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has criticised the government in Beijing after a parody video he made disappeared from Chinese websites. It is a pastiche of the hugely popular Gangnam Style video by the Korean pop sensation Psy. In it, Ai Weiwei dances with his friends in the courtyard of his studio in Beijing, even waving a pair of handcuffs in reference to his imprisonment last year. They posted it on Tudou, the Chinese equivalent of the banned YouTube, but now it is not there. "We only filmed for a bit over ten minutes, but we used a whole day to edit, and eventually put it online at midnight," Ai said. "After we had uploaded it, just a few hours later, a few hours after we had started work, we found that a lot of people, tens of thousands, had already watched it. Now in China it has already been totally removed, deleted entirely, and you can't see it in China". Ai parodied the name too, changing it to Caonima Style, a phrase of defiance adopted by dissidents against the government. He said the song and dance were a grass-roots expression of individualism that should be allowed in his China. "Overall, we feel that every person has the right to express themselves, and that is fundamentally linked to our happiness and even our existence. When a society constantly demands that everyone should abandon this right, then society loses its creativity and it can never become a happy society". Ai's 81-day detention last year sparked an international outcry ...

Ai Weiwei detained. Here is his TED film
www.ted.com The news that Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has been detained by authorities has prompted significant concern here at TED-HQ. We had shown a film of him at last month's conference, an unexpected and courageous statement about his treatment by the government, social change, the power of the web, and his hope for the future of China. The film, which was shown as Ai Weiwei himself watched live over the web in the middle of the night, prompted a huge standing ovation from the TED audience. Read the news story www.bbc.co.uk TED is a non-partisan, nonpolitical organization and we understand the Chinese authorities concern at anything which might provoke social unrest. But for anyone who believes in the power of ideas, of human imagination, it is heartbreaking to see one of the world's great artists shackled in this way. We will be tracking developments carefully. Here is the film.

euronews cinema - Documentary: all eyes on Chinese activist Ai Weiwei
www.euronews.com A new documentary shines the spotlight on Chinese activist and artist Ai Weiwei - whose clashes with his country's government are ongoing to say the least. Last year, Ai was fined nearly 2 million euros for tax evasion, his appeal against the decision was unsuccessful and the activist was detained without explanation for three months during an overall crackdown on dissent in China. Since being released he has been refused permission to travel and though under constant surveillance, he continues to openly criticise the Chinese government on Twitter. China News - Marking Christmas in China, China News Broadcast, December 25, 2012
In today's China News, Pope Benedict has prayed for religious freedom in China, during his Christmas Day message in the Vatican. More than a thousand people join a Christmas Eve mass in Beijing, braving a cold and windy night. Hundreds joined a dancing Santa for a very Gangnam-Style Christmas in Shanghai, in a not-so-traditional celebration of the festive season. One of the most prominent Christian dissidents in China is rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng, and on this Christmas day, he remains imprisoned in the remote Xinjiang region. A bus crash in China has claimed the lives of eleven children, in the latest tragedy to strike Chinese schools. This accident involves another overcrowded school bus, operated by an unlicensed primary school. Dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has re-tweeted a petition to the US White House, that calls on President Obama to investigate and condemn claims of forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Each year, the Winter Fishing Festival is held at Chagan Lake in northeast China's Jilin province. On Monday, as the festival began, a local fishing team leader was recognized for his unique skills in identifying fishing grounds.
