Closedown of IBA 405-line transmitters
IBA Engineering Announcements devote almost an entire programme to saying goodbye to 405-line black and white television early in the new year. Multigenerational VHS, so not always of the best quality.

The End of 405 line TV
This recording was made in the at Lime Grove Studios in London on January 3, 1985. It depicts the final moments of over-the-air 405 transmission from the Crystal Palace transmitter. The TV receiver is a model T-18 Baird set manufactured in 1938. The set is actually working and picking up the transmission via a VHF roof top antenna at the studio.

405 lines - the last day. BBC1, Scottish region.
"Duck Soup" just finished and before closedown there's just enough time to see tomorrow's schedule, to have a look at the weather and a issue a quick reminder that tomorrow is the last day of transmission on 405 lines. Dated as Wednesday January 2nd 1985.

The End of 405 line TV part 2
This clip was recorded on January 3, 1985 and includes the announcement of the end of 405 television transmission. Note the television is a fully operational 1938 Baird model T-18, located at Lime Grove Studios and receiving the broadcast by antenna. Homemade 405 line television. TV standards converter
This is a demonstration of my 405 line standards converter in use. I designed the unit myself in early 2004 using standard 'off the shelf' 74HC components. I did this in response to articles in 405 alive that implied it could not be done. The design came to me overnight while sleeping and the prototype was operational in a few days. Final tweaking over the next few weeks resulted in a line store converter with 2:1 interpolation that gives excellent pictures. The patterning and flicker is a result of the digital camera used to film this video.

405 line television Collection Pt 1
This is part 1 of three video clips showing part of my vintage Radio, Television, and Record Player collection. Most of these receivers have been restored to full working condition by myself in my 'vintage' workshop. A large number of these receivers were presented to me by past customers of my radio and television shop in London. Others were discovered at the local rubbish tip and a few were even found in skips. The 405 line signals are supplied from a miracle of modern technology, the AURORA standards converter. This converts the modern 625 line television signal to the original 405 system 'A'. No modifications are required to the original receivers, the output from the AURORA being connected to the aerial socket in the normal way. If you have any questions about the receivers, please feel free to drop me a comment. Hope you enjoy this first half and you will continue with Pt. 2.

Welcome to part 2 of my vintage 405 Line Television Receiver collection. Part 1 explains the British 405 line Television system and the origins of my collection. Rather than cut out some of the details I have extended the video to 3 parts. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding the collection or the restoration of a vintage receiver. Thanks for viewing.

[MOCK] ITV Schools - Widescreen 405 lines
Another utterly nonsensical mock, uploaded as I want to blog about aspects of creating this at some point. The animation was created in Macromedia Flash 8, the slide and film was distressed using the MSU Old Cinema filter. The photographs of West Bay in Dorset were taken on my mobile phone and the shots of my children, nephews and nieces were takn on my Canon IXUS camera - it's MJPEG, which is great for fake film stuff.
