The Role of Aniconism in Early Buddhist Art
by Arneson through Professor Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II, opensourcebuddhism.org. This project presents the earliest and "imageless" art of Buddhism, following the dictates of Siddhartha the Buddha, that his followers refrain from making images of his person. Instead, abstract images were used - the bodhi tree, the wheel of teaching etc. until the Greek Buddhists in the wake of Alexander's conquests change literally, the face of Buddhism forever with the first Buddha images. Two sides of the same Coin: Buddhism meets Science.
Contemporary orthodox quantum physics and early Buddhism contains crucially converging and parallel core concepts: 1: Wholeness, oneness, and unity in the sense that all is interdependent and forever entangled. Changing any part entails changing the entire universe! 2: Emptiness and insubstantiality denoting that materiality is a potential of many possible manifestations and not a solid substance or entity. 3: Mind over matter: That expels the fact that mind selects which aspects of many in a probability distribution should manifest during observation. The Buddha: Admirable Friendship
This is for my Admirable Friends. All quotes are from the Pali Canon. __________________________ Kalyāṇa-mittatā (Pali; Skt.: -mitratā) is a Buddhist concept of "spiritual friendship" within Buddhist community life, applicable to both monastic and householder relationships. One involved in such a relationship is known as a "good friend," "virtuous friend," "noble friend" or "admirable friend" (kalyāṇa-mitta, -mitra). Since early Buddhist history, these relationships have involved spiritual teacher-student dyads as well as communal peer groups. In general, such is a supportive relationship based on shared Buddhist ethical values and the pursuit of enlightenment. __________________________ "Admirable friendship: kalyanamittata", by John T. Jack Kornfield on His Book Teachings of the Buddha
Jack discusses the 2012 new edition of Teachings of the Buddha. Visit shambhala.com for more information. This treasury of essential Buddhist writings draws from the most popular Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, and Japanese sources. Among the selections are some of the earliest recorded sayings of the Buddha on the practice of freedom, passages from later Indian scriptures on the perfection of wisdom, verses from Tibetan masters on the enlightened mind, and songs in praise of meditation by Zen teachers. The book also includes traditional instruction on how to practice sitting meditation, cultivate calm awareness, and live with compassion. Jack Kornfield, one of the most respected American Buddhist teachers, has compiled these teachings to impart the essence and inspiration of Buddhism to readers of all spiritual traditions. This revised and expanded edition of the Shambhala Pocket Classics version of the same title offers a broad array of teachings representing the full spectrum of the Buddhist tradition, including new selections on the role of women in early Buddhism.

The Buddhist Lent Day at Wat Greensboro of NC July 25, 2010
Today is Kao Punsa at our local temple Wat Greensboro of NC. Kao Punsa is the tradition of Buddhist Lent or the annual three-month Rains Retreat known in Laos and Thailand as Punsa, which dated back to the early Buddhism in ancient India, this is the time where monks spent three months of the annual rainy season in permanent dwellings. This is to avoid unnecessary traveling during the period when crops were still new for fear that they might accidentally step on young plants. In the ancient time, the Lord Buddha left earth for 3 months to visit his mother up in heaven, he wanted to show his gratitude by chanting for her during this Lent period. It is also considered inauspicious to get married or move house during the Lent period, and after the end of the lent period then the calendar is open for weddings. Richard Feynman on the Double Slit Paradox: Particle or Wave?
Richard Feynman's lecture on quantum Probability and Uncertainty in the "Messenger" series of lectures on Cornell University 1964. He elucidates the Double Slit Experiment, which includes the feature of the observer participating in creating the manifestation of the observed object either as a non-local diffracting wave or as a distinct local particle (lump): Contemporary orthodox quantum physics and early Buddhism agrees on this the "Participatory Observation (Anthropic) Principle" coined by American physics grand old man John Archibald Wheeler: More on Genesis and Observership: youtu.be youtu.be youtu.be www.youtube.com www.youtube.com en.wikipedia.org en.wikipedia.org What-Buddha-Said.net What-Buddha-Said.net What-Buddha-Said.net What-Buddha-Said.net en.wikipedia.org What-Buddha-Said.net What-Buddha-Said.net What-Buddha-Said.net

What About God's Will for Me?
JOURNEY 2010: LIVING IN THE WILL OF GOD: WHAT ABOUT GOD'S WILL FOR ME?
Journey 2010 is about having a church comprised of people who have individually decided to follow God's Will in their daily lives.
INTRO
Most people are on guard when they spend private face time with their Pastor. Especially if you are a bit older and have been in church a few years. You may have known a pastor who used your or a friends situation as a sermon illustration. You may have experienced the judgmental statements of a pastor. So we normally treat a visit with the pastor as an interrogation at the local police precinct. We watch what we say and what we do. We make sure everything is put up, nothing lying around that shouldn't be.
Personally I would rather visit people when they are lying on a gurney waiting to be operated on. They tend to be more honest. You can tell if they are anxious. Transparent honesty is such a rare thing anymore. We wonder about our politicians, our church leaders, our teachers. We grow up learning to question, exactly because we have seen so much dishonesty
I know some of you question the truth of God's will. To most everyone under the age of 35, the subject of God's Will is strange, foreign, and for the most part irrelevant. We believe that live happens. God rarely has anything to do with it.
Let me assure you, whatever your concept about the importance of the will of God, what you think is not truth. We are easily deceived into believing any old lie the world or the devil wants us to believe. What matters is the Word of God!
This Word is Life, not just for after you are dead, but it is Life NOW! It is health, it is forgiveness, it is peace, it is hope, it is safety, it is security, it is the most powerful force this world has ever know. I can say this because this word says that Jesus Christ is the Word. No other person in the Universe ever lived a sinless life, ever faced Satan one on one and defeated Him, ever stared death in its face and defeated it! If you fail to give your life totally to Jesus Christ, you are robbing yourself of real Life. You are robbing yourself of the very presence of God! You are robbing yourself of ever being a part in the will of God. You may think you know God, but you are believing a lie. Your mind is dark, you are confused and stumbling over the falsehoods of your mind. One day instead of waking to an eternal life of joy in the presence of God, you will wake in the agonies of Hell, screaming in torment for all eternity, ever sorrowful because you knew the truth but you rejected it. There will be no second chance.
WHAT IS GOD'S WILL FOR ME?
We are looking at what the will of God for me is. And number one, the will of God for you is to know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. He doesn't want part of you, even three quarters of you. He doesn't want to be just one of your beliefs, and share space with Hinduism, Buddhism, humanism, or even you ism. He must be your GOD! Anything less and your mind is fooling you. You are lost in a lie. You will never know God's Will. This is because you put your will first.
So what is the will of God for me and for you? It is to put Him First! It is to Trust completely and confidently in Him.
Now I know you are thinking how much easier it would be if you could sit down at Applebee's and have a nice long lunch with Jesus. I assure you that football would not be the topic of conversation. Who is going to win the Super bowl would be the farthest thing from your mind. You would want to know what He thinks of your life, if you are going in the right direction. You would want clarity on His will for your life. You would want to know what you should be doing for Him.
If life was only that simple. So many decisions we make.
We make decisions and then our decisions make us.
Should I go to college? Which one? What should I major in?
Should I get married? Which one?
I can't stand my job. Should I look for another, or should I just quit and hope something pops up?
A friend of mine wants me to share a place with him. Should I? Should I live at home?
I'm getting ready to retire? Can I afford to? Where should we live?
We have two children. We’re thinking about having a third. Should we have another one? Or should we think about adopting?
I feel like God is wanting me to go into the ministry. What does He want me to do? Missions, Youth, Pastor?
I told each of my children that in order for them to get married, they had to go to college. I also did not want them to go to state colleges. I also wanted them to live on campus.
No state college because I wanted them to apply to colleges that were a bit more difficult to get into, so it made them work harder on their grades. Live in the dorms because I wanted them to grow up faster, face decisions on their own, what types of friends were best for them, how to manage money, how to do laundry, all the things they need to learn to live on their own.
So our children moved away, Pepp

This performance is right down to THE TRUTH IN THE MOMENT. Nothing is held back as each of the three becomes "THE WHOLE" at any given moment.. This "TRUTH BE TOLD,BETTER THAN HOLLYWOOD SERIES 19 SONG #!" represents life which is ALWAYS "IN THE MOMENT" with nothing planned but PURE EMOTIONS being delivered with sound vibrations that create actual reds, blues, greens violets, oranges whites, blacks and precious moments of silence between the notes, where it's all happening and making this particular piece a "BU GA LU CLASSIC" and a MASTER PIECE OF SUPREME IMPROVISING". This is one of the most emotional pieces of music and it should be because it represents THE START OF 2010, a year year and a new begining for all. Each of these guys becomes part of the other and evolves into a oneness that can't be mistaken for anything but THE TRUTH and they're telling it here and it's being done in a REAL ENVIRONMENT with no HOLLYWOOD GLITTER and NONSENSE. THIS IS LOVE and PEACE communicated with the highest level of musicianship. Marvin is MASTER of DRUMS,Neil is MASTER of KEYS and MARK is MASTER of BASS. All three are MASTER COMPOSERS getting together and creating here exactly what Neil's reaction was :"WOW"!
It is WOW and I'll second that. I almost miniaturized myself and jumped into this computer while I was writing these liner notes because I know these guys so well and was moved so deeply at that moment I first started listening to this. Too bad I was so far away from the Newburgh , NY site where this was recorded but I'll tell you that the music was so powerful that it didn't matter where I was because I started playing it in my heart and joined in with these guys and entered another dimension. It's true. I'm in it and enjoyed it as if I were a fourth guy in this group. I also must admit that because it was Marvin's Birthday Evening, I actually did transfer myself into PURE SPIRIT and show up there. Can you hear it between the NOTES if you don't quite understand the dimension I'm talking from.Loud, soft, fire, rain, water, wind earth, mud, sand, waves, stillness, open sky, infinite space, mass of matter, lack of matter, breath, energy felt through warm love, energy felt through actual colors with sound moving rainbows.. A REAL STRONG EXAMPLE OF GIVING IT ALL AWAY FOR WORLD PEACE. THIS SERIES 19 SONG #! is The Bu GA LU Birthday PRESENT OF ALL TIME,especially THE PRESENT OF THE MOMENT!

Attached is the paper we spoke about. What I have done is tried to consider some of the themes we spoke about it in class regarding jazz and stylistic principles, through the thread of my uncle's life. I wrote the piece in a series of stages, in which I give a biographical overview coupled with anecdotes, actual teachings of my uncle, an overview of the jam session and what it and he ultimately accomplish. I also try to give the larger significance of the story within a larger context, and explain why it is important to non-musicians. I hope you enjoy it. I found through writing this piece that it was to be and should be much more than I did here, and consequently forced me in a different direction than I initially intended, I feel with more anecdotes, and emphasis in certain areas, my uncles story would be a good book or movie I may consider writing (entertaining if nothing else). I wrote this as a surprise for my uncle. Thank you for this opportunity. I really enjoyed the class, and I will be talking with family and thinking of proposals for my independent study over the break.

Best,
Lorenzo

In life, it is the ultimate joy to develop a relationship with an individual so strikingly unique and utterly expressive, it leaves you in amazement. How does someone teach creativity? It starts with the self, It starts with the understanding of ones position within the spectrum of the universe, which is miniscule but infinite.
Born in Englewood New Jersey , Marvin “Bugalu” Smith began playing drums at age two under the tutelage of his older brother, Earl “Buster” Smith. In Marvin’s younger years, he witnessed his brother play with greats like Eric Dolphy, and studied his brother’s teachings. Marvin describes his early start in music as tough. His brother was a hard teacher, not allowing him to even sit on the drums until he had watched for countless hours. Marvin practiced daily before and after scho

"Meditation" by Taos Winds Who Was Buddha? Gautama Buddha or Siddhārtha Gautama Buddha was a spiritual teacher from the Indian subcontinent, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. The word Buddha is a title for the first awakened being in an era. In most Buddhist traditions, Siddhartha Gautama is regarded as the Supreme Buddha of our age, "Buddha" meaning "awakened one" or "the enlightened one." Gautama Buddha may also be referred to as Śākyamuni. Gautama taught a Middle Way compared to the severe asceticism found in the Sramana (renunciation) movement common in his region. He later taught throughout regions of eastern India such as Magadha and Kośala. Gautama is the primary figure in Buddhism, and accounts of his life, discourses, and monastic rules are believed by Buddhists to have been summarized after his death and memorized by his followers. Various collections of teachings attributed to him were passed down by oral tradition, and first committed to writing about 400 years later. Traditional biographies of Gautama generally include numerous miracles, omens, and supernatural events. The character of the Buddha in these traditional biographies is often that of a fully transcendent (Skt. lokottara) and perfected being who is unencumbered by the mundane world. In the Mahāvastu, over the course ...

The Biology and Mathematics of Consciousness
Consciousness is recognized as the hard problem of today's science. It cannot be reduced to swirling atoms or neuronal blips or even ever seen in any micro-scope or scanning. It exposes a problematic and maybe even embarrassing epistemological gap between physics and philosophy. It seems to be contained in the brain, but not produced by the brain, just as the beer is contained in the bottle, but not produced by the bottle... It holds the key to understanding the nature of core phenomena like reality versus dreams. Life Of The Lord Buddha Part 3 (Lao/Thai)
Teachings: Main article: Buddhist philosophy Some scholars believe that some portions of the Pali Canon and the Āgamas contain the actual substance of the historical teachings (and possibly even the words) of the Buddha.[51][52] Some scholars believe the Pali Canon and the Agamas pre-date the Mahāyāna sūtras.[53] The scriptural works of Early Buddhism precede the Mahayana works chronologically, and are treated by many Western scholars as the main credible source for information regarding the actual historical teachings of Gautama Buddha. However, some scholars do not think that the texts report on historical events.[54][dubious -- discuss][55][56] Some of the fundamentals of the teachings attributed to Gautama Buddha are: The Four Noble Truths: that suffering is an ingrained part of existence; that the origin of suffering is craving for sensuality, acquisition of identity, and annihilation; that suffering can be ended; and that following the Noble Eightfold Path is the means to accomplish this. The Noble Eightfold Path: right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Dependent origination: the mind creates suffering as a natural product of a complex process. Rejection of the infallibility of accepted scripture: Teachings should not be accepted unless they are borne out by our experience and are praised by the wise. See the Kalama Sutta for details. Anicca (Sanskrit: anitya): That all ...
