Tritium Kit Marker - Dangerous radiation
Tritium Kit Marker - Dangerous radiation
Tritium kit marker key chain is one source of nuclear radiation which is legal to have. It is used for marking different objects to be visible in the dark, examples: route marking, safety marking of hazards & obstacles. Warnning: Tritium kit marker is not for marking of personal keys that you hold in your pocket! Tritium is radioactive gas which emits beta particles. Marker kit is well protected from leakage of radiation (beta particles). But there is another problem which is very difficult to detect with the classic and most frequently used detectors of ionizing radiation. In this example this problem are hiding behind the phenomenon known as "bremsstrahlung" (breaking radiation). Sudden braking beta particles causes the production of low energy x-rays. Results of measuring x-rays: 1. detector with metal GM tube. Register with few clicks - 2 or 3 CPM (almost nothing) 2. detector wth pancake GM tube with Mica window. Register about 165 CPM 3. detector - wide range energy gamma scinitillator It is very hard to resolve is this kind of detector detect any x-rays because of very high background radiation detection. 4. detector - low energy gamma scintillator "Ludlum 44-3" About 3500 CPM Now you see the real truth about this kit marker and now you can think again whether you wear it on the keys in your pocket. Thanks for watching

Reviewing TRUGLO Tritium / Fiber Optic Sights - Day Shoot
Reviewing TRUGLO Tritium / Fiber Optic Sights - Day Shoot
Reviewing TRUGLO Tritium / Fiber Optic Sights - Day Shoot In this video I review the TRUGLO Tritium / Fiber Optic Sights and see if they live up to the hype. These sites use fiber optics to enhance the sights using ambient & surrounding light. The radioactive tritium glows without the need from any light source = great for low light and night operations. For this shoot I'm using a tactical light (TLR-3) with my Glock 23 with Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel. This is the first time I have shot with the new sites, so take that into consideration. Cost of the TRUGLO TFO sights = $124 Need some more practice but I like the sights - looking forward to doing a night shoot to see how they preform. I hope this helps. Steve

Tritium - in glow key-rings
Tritium - in glow key-rings
Tritium glow keyrings, testing with Radex GM counter and its radioluminescence. TRITIUM - brief info. Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen with a half-life of 12.32 years. Its nucleus contains 1 proton and 2 neutrons, whereas the nucleus of protium (the most abundant hydrogen isotope) contains only 1 proton. It is a colorless, extremely flammable gas with no smell or taste. Tritium emits low energy negatively charged beta particles (electrons) and decays into a stable (and uncommon) isotope, helium 3, which contains 2 protons and 1 neutron. The beta particles causes the phosphor coating inside a tiny glass vial inside a plastic key-ring to radioluminesce, emitting visible light. The low energy beta particles has only little penetrating power; it is readily absorbed by the phosphor, the glass vial, plus the plastic, and so giving no response with my Geiger counter. The bleeps heard on my Geiger counter is due to background radiation that consists of cosmic rays and radiation from traces of radioactive substances, such as potassium 40, in the surrounding environment (including me!).

75% US Nuclear Plants Leaking Toxic Tritium Radiation Into Drinking Water Supply
75% US Nuclear Plants Leaking Toxic Tritium Radiation Into Drinking Water Supply
Radioactive tritium has leaked from three-quarters of United States commercial nuclear power sites, often into groundwater from corroded, buried piping, an Associated Press investigation shows. And the number and severity of the leaks has been escalating, even as federal regulators extend the licences of more reactors across the US. Tritium, which is a radioactive form of hydrogen, has leaked from at least 48 of 65 sites, according to US Nuclear Regulatory Commission records reviewed as part of AP's year-long examination of safety issues at ageing nuclear power plants. Leaks from at least 37 of those facilities contained concentrations exceeding the federal drinking water standard - sometimes at hundreds of times the limit. While most leaks have been found within plant boundaries, some have migrated offsite, but none is known to have reached public water supplies. At three sites - two in Illinois and one in Minnesota - leaks have contaminated drinking wells of nearby homes but not at levels violating the drinking water standard. At a fourth site, in New Jersey, tritium has leaked into an aquifer and a discharge canal feeding a bay on the Atlantic Ocean. The US Environmental Protection Agency says tritium should measure no more than 20000 picocuries per litre in drinking water. It also estimates seven of 200000 people who drink such water for decades will develop cancer. The tritium leaks have also spurred doubts among independent engineers about the reliability of ...

6 Million Gallons Of Tritium Leaked In Braidwood Illinois, Sickened Residents Not Warned
6 Million Gallons Of Tritium Leaked In Braidwood Illinois, Sickened Residents Not Warned
May 12, 2011 BRAIDWOOD, Ill. (CBS) --- Federal officials on Thursday held a meeting to address concerns residents have over several safety issues and a possible threat to the drinking water. The questions on the table: Is the local nuclear reactor safe, and can the company operating it be trusted? 2 Investigator Dave Savini reports. Residents have so much fear that federal regulators overseeing Exelon's handling of Illinois nuclear plants went to Braidwood for a first-of-its-kind meeting. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission doesn't normally discus a safety investigation before it's complete, but it is now after an alarm that warns plant workers of possible trouble wasn't wired properly. Also, a flaw was discovered in the plant's backup water-supply pipe in March. "There is room for improvement, in terms of equipment reliability," Exelon's Dan Enright says. Some residents say they are afraid because for years a leaking pipe emitted 6 million gallons of water that had a radioactive substance called tritium into the ground yet residents were not warned. They're also concerned about what they said sounded like an explosion last summer, followed by thick white steam blanketing the neighborhood. Tom and Judy Zimmer were among the residents who wanted to hear what the NRC has now discovered and whether it will cause them further problems. "I came out here completely perfectly healthy, and now I'm not," says Judy Zimmer, who has battled kidney cancer. The Zimmer's former neighbor ...

Truglo Tritium/Fiber Optic Sights - Part 1
Available at Glockstore.com - search item #TRU01. TFO gun sights use the same proven technology as our TFO archery pins. These sights are the most revolutionary innovation since TRUGLO, Inc. introduced fiber optics. TFO refers to our patented combination of Tritium and Fiber Optic technologies. The tritium maintains the brightness level of the sight in low light (or NO light) conditions. That means you can see your sight even in complete darkness—with perfect transition through all light conditions. Tritium does not need batteries and does not need to be charged with light—it simply glows!
