Frisian: Languages of the World: Introductory Overviews
Alexander Arguelles presents a series of videos to provide introductory overviews of the languages of the world. Working diachronically through various language families in turn, he demonstrates how to identify each language, translates a text sample to show how it works, and discusses its genetic affiliation and cultural context. For further information about the series, please refer to www.foreignlanguageexpertise.com

Daet Lün Org.Deutsch
A documentary over the island Helgoland Heligoland (German: Helgoland; Heligolandic: deät Lun ["the Land"]) is a small German archipelago in the North Sea. Formerly Danish and British possessions, the islands (population 1650) are located in the Heligoland Bight (part of the German Bight) in the southeastern corner of the North Sea. They are the only German islands not in the immediate vicinity of the mainland and are approximately three hours' sailing time from Cuxhaven at the mouth of the River Elbe. In addition to German, the local population, who are ethnic Frisians, speak the Heligolandic dialect of the North Frisian language called Halunder. Heligoland was formerly called Heyligeland, or "holy land," possibly due to the island's long association with the god Forseti.

Visual Poetry in Frysk
Visual arrangement of Frisian poetry on moving canvas. [English subtitles] Non-profit experiment of combining poetry with visual art. The poem is written by the Frisian poet Durk van der Ploeg, a dutch writer and poet. His work is mainly published in the Frisian language and he is a Knight of the Order of Oranje Nassau. The images portrait Frisian landscape architect Siem de Vlas working in his studio and visiting the grave of the famous dutch landscape architect Lucas Pieters Roodbaard (1782 - 1851). Roodbaard laid out many English landscape gardens in major cities in the Netherlands. The Frisian languages are a closely related group of Germanic languages, spoken by about 500000 members of Frisian ethnic groups, who live on the southern fringes of the North Sea in the Netherlands and Germany. The Frisian languages are the second closest living languages to English, after Scots. Jemgum - Life On The Edge Of Germany
This film is a documentation covering one year of life in the small muncipality of Jemgum with its folkloristic and touristic attractions as well as historic and geographic characteristics. Robbed of their commercial rights by the Hanseatic League and annexed by Friedrich the Great in 1744, the East Frisians are now losing their own language for the second time in their history - first the Frisian and then the Lower Saxony Dialect. This film was made to show that the folk behind the dykes live their lives to the full and it demonstrates the colourful tone of the Plattdeutsche language spoken by the villagers in this community

eduFrysk.nl demo video (in English)
eduFrysk.nl is an internet environment where you can learn Frisian by enjoying Frisian. Learning a new language is like learning to play a musical instrument: in order to play well, you need to have a good ear. Passive language acquisition precedes active competence, but fairly soon these two aspects of language learning will follow each other like the tides. The eduFrysk.nl environment continually offers new texts, stories and poems that can be read and listened to at the same time, video fragments can be viewed with Frisian subtitles and obviously there is a lot of music with run-on lyrics. --------------------------------------- Made by www.buroklei.nl
