Listening to shortwave radio stations worldwide with little money
Want to listen to world wide shortwave radio stations with only little money? All you need is about 30 dollars or 20 pounds. You get a good (and cheap) short wave radio from the 1990s at ebay and a long cable (loudspeaker fe) in your radio store. Just connect the cable to the antenna of your radio and your drainpipe or at least put it out of the window and experiment a bit until the reception is best. Third get the informations of available radio stations from www.short-wave.info Always good reception and nice experiences with far away places and foreign cultures Howto drainpipe antenna www.richy-schley.de (many pictures, German)

Shortwave Radio - Bermuda Radio Abandon Ship Sail Vessel 'Elle' PART 2 0700z Call
0700z Call - Part 2 Original Description: PresentedIn4D caught this one tonight at about 0500z on 4.125 USB. I didn't catch the beginning, but I did still catch a lot of the information going to Bermuda radio and the USCG. At the end you can hear his batteries going dead and distortion coming into the audio from too low voltage. I will put up other parts if they do come back at 0900z. The ship name may be "Al" or "Elle". More likely "Elle".

Shortwave Antenna Grounding Pt. 2
this is the 2nd ground of my SW antenna inside. Get a run of #12AWG groundwire and experiment in your shack. Have a bathroom close to your listening area? Connect the groundwire from the antenna shield (or antenna switch groundpoint like mine) to the cold waterpipe of the toilet or sink (NOT the hot waterpipe-it goes to the water heater and there is no continuity). BTW, I have a bad habit of saying signal strength as I said here "s-20" when I know I should say "20 over s-9" lol sorry to those who know what I did.

Shortwave Radio for World War II: "Voice of Victory" pt2-2 1944 Hallicrafters SCR-299 HT-4
more at showbiz.quickfound.net "How radio equipment helped to win World War II" Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). Split with MKVmerge GUI (part of MKVToolNix), the same software can recombine the downloaded parts (in mp4 format): www.bunkus.org part 1: www.youtube.com en.wikipedia.org The SCR-299 was a US Signal Corps mobile military communications unit used during World War II. The SCR-299 replaced SCR-197 and SCR-597, and was an effort to give a long-range communication advantage to the US Army and its allies. To meet these demands, a high-powered radio transmitter was required — capable of infallible voice communications over 100 miles (160 km); self-powered; sturdy enough to work in all conditions, flexible enough to cover a wide range of frequencies; and able to operate in motion or at fixed locations. Production began in early spring 1942. Out of the various sets sent from US vendors, and after considerable experimentation, Hallicrafters Standard HT-4 transmitter was chosen as the desired radio's basis. The HT-4 transmitter's new version became known as the BC-610 transmitter. The receivers finally supplied were the BC-312 and BC ...

Good Bye Radio Bulgaria on Shortwave
After 76 years on the air, Radio Bulgaria stopped shortwave broadcasting for financial reasons on 31 January 2012 at 2200 UTC. I took this video to commemorate the loss of another international shortwave station. Radio Bulgaria will, however, continue to offer its foreign language programmes on the Internet at www.bnr.bg. Receivers used in this video are Sony ICF-2001D and Roadstar TRA-2350P, each with their built-in telescopic antennas. I received the station at my home near Hannover, Germany.

Adding a S-meter to TenTec 1254 Shortwave Receiver
This video shows how I added a relative signal-strength meter (S-meter) to the TenTec 1254 SSB, CW, AM Shortwave Receiver kit. I built this kit last year, and really enjoy it. I did a video a few months ago that showed a walk-through of its circuitry. One downside to this radio is that it does not have a S-meter, so I decided to add one. I measured the AGC voltage vs. input signal strength, and plotted this result to better understand the voltage range I was working with. Then, I designed and built an expanded scale voltmeter that would respond to the limited voltages that the AGC circuit produces. This video shows the circuit schematic, the completed prototype, and its operation.

Portable Shortwave Radios and YOU
I've been receiving a steady stream of questions about what features and what to look for in a portable shortwave radio receiver that you can use to tune the international bands with. So, logically, I've made a talking video with a brief summary of features and what types are available, and this is the first such video I've ever recorded. Shortwave radio is an antiquated hobby, but it's not a dying one, and I'd like to encourage people to get into it. Please, be least a little bit kind, ye'all.

Cold War Shortwave
If you like this may I suggest a "video version" I made called "Interprobe - World Broadcast Mash-up" on YouTube. Cold War Shortwave was created in 1988 using off-air recordings made while I was traveling in Europe circa 1985. This was a time when propaganda was harsh, before the Gorbachev inspired thaw. The collage was done with Soundwave from Impulse, my first experience with non-linear, random access editing.
