Peru 2008 - Inti Raymi Pt1 Cusco
slideshow of the Inti Raymi Festival or Festival of the Sun - this is from the part in Cusco which starts about 9 in the morning. The ceremonial events begin with an invocation by the Sapa Inca in the Qorikancha, also spelled Koricancha square in front of the Santo Domingo church, built over the ancient Temple of the Sun. Here, the Sapa Inca calls on the blessings from the sun.

Atahualpa
Atahualpa was the last Sapa Inca or sovereign emperor of the Tahuantinsuyu, or the Inca Empire, prior to the Spanish conquest of Peru. Atahualpa became emperor upon defeating his older half-brother Huáscar in a civil war sparked by the death of their father, Inca Huayna Capac, from an infectious disease which may have been smallpox. During the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire, the Spaniard Francisco Pizarro captured Atahualpa and used him to control the Inca empire. Eventually, the Spanish executed Atahualpa, ending the Inca Empire (although several successors claimed the title of Sapa Inca ("unique Inca") and led a resistance against the invading Spaniards). After Atahualpa died, the Incan Empire began to fall apart.

Peru 2008 - Inti Raymi Pt2 Sacsayhuamán
slideshow of the Inti Raymi Festival or Festival of the Sun - this is from the part in the ruins Sacsayhuamán. Following the oration, Sapa Inca is carried on a golden throne, a replica of the original which weighed about 60 kilos, in a procession to the ancient fortress of Sacsayhuamán, in the hills above Cuzco. With the Sapa Inca come the high priests, garbed in ceremonial robes, then officials of the court, nobles and others, all elaborately costumed according to their rank, with silver and gold ornaments.

Puno Peru is a few hours ride via train from Cusco, and nearby Juliaca airport. Puno is home to Lake Titicaca.
Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world at about 3,812 m / 12,500 ft, about the size of USA’s state of Connecticut. The border of Peru and Bolivia cuts through the middle of Lake Titicaca.
Puno is a trilingual city where people speak Spanish, Quechua, and Aymara. The people of Lake Titicaca live on artificial floating islands made from reeds. They were called the Uros people by the ancient Inca. The Uros have intermarried with the people of Puno and speak mainly Aymara and Quechua. Lake Titicaca tours consist of trips to Taquile Island and the Uros Islands as well.
The Inca believed that they were born from the first Sapa Inca king and son of the Sun, Manco Capac, which walked out of Lake Titicaca near Puno.
The Inca worshiped the Sun as their god. Manco Capac expanded the Inca Empire within the territory of the ruling Aymara culture which still exists today in Puno.
A Puno tour is a great vacation to experience the Inca culture from Cusco and Machu Picchu. Puno hotels range in class from backpacker to tourist to luxury.

Barista Challenge #2 - Peru 2010
Twelve world-class baristas were transported from the comfort of their urban retail coffee shops to spend a week living on a small, family-owned coffee farm on the edge of the Amazon basin in northern Peru. There was no electricity. No showers. No espresso - but plenty of adventure!
Who was there?
Raul Rodas, Guatemala. Scottie Callaghan, Australia. Soren Stiller Markuseen, Denmark. Stefanos Domatiotis, Greece. Haruna Muryayama, Japan. Kyle Straw, Canada.
Fabrizio Sencion, Mexico. Thomas Schweiger, Germany. Ricardo Cardenas, Mexico. Harrysson Niera , Peru and Karen Pisconte, Peru.
We split the group in to two teams, who proudly named themselves Sapa Inca and Blackfoot and dove headfirst in a friendly but fierce competition, reality-show style. Host farmer Dionicio Aguilar and his team at Finca La Encanada worked tirelessly to create an unforgettable experience.
The Seed to Cup Barista Adventure is a barista-focused event to create more transparency and stronger coffee relationships in the specialty coffee supply chain. It was produced by Sustainable Harvest Coffee Importers of Portland, Oregon, and held prior to their 8th annual global Let's Talk Coffee gathering in northern Peru.
