Chloe is a 2009 erotic thriller directed by Atom Egoyan, a remake of the 2004 French film Nathalie.... This version stars Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson, and Amanda Seyfried in the title role. The screenplay was written by Erin Cressida Wilson, based on said earlier French film, written by Anne Fontaine.

StudioCanal fully financed Chloe, which had already made its budget back via international pre-sales.^[4][5] In 2009, the film received award nominations from London Film Festival, San Sebastián International Film Festival, and Toronto International Film Festival under the category of Film Presented.^[6]

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group paid a low seven-figure sum to acquire the United States distribution rights of Chloe,^[4][7] and the group opened this film in limited theatrical release in the United States on March 26, 2010 through Sony Pictures Classics.^[8] In the United States, this film grossed $3 million theatrically and became one of the higher-grossing specialty films in 2010^[9] (according to Variety, "$3 million is the new $10 million" for specialty films' box office in 2010^[10]).

Several months after the DVD/Blu-ray release of Chloe, Atom Egoyan said that Chloe had made more money than any of his previous films.^[11]

In the wake of Chloe, Atom Egoyan had since received many scripts of erotic thrillers.^[12] Amanda Seyfried's performance in this film also helped her to gain more industry acclaim and receive more opportunities to play more roles.^[13]

Plot[link]

The film opens with Chloe (Amanda Seyfried) getting dressed. In a voice over, she discusses her business as a call girl. Catherine (Julianne Moore) is a gynecologist and her husband David (Liam Neeson) is a college professor. Catherine suspects David of having an affair after she sees a cell-phone picture of him embracing a female student.

After work, Catherine stops by the hotel bar where Chloe waits for clients. Chloe tells her that she doesn't usually service women. Catherine tells Chloe she wants to hire her to test David's loyalty. The next evening Catherine and Chloe meet and Chloe tells Catherine that she asked David to kiss her, and he did. Angered, Catherine tells Chloe that wasn't what she wanted her to do. However, she insists that Chloe meet with David again. Over the next few nights, they meet and Chloe describes in explicit detail her encounters with David, which arouses Catherine. The two kiss; Catherine leaves. Later, she recalls her meeting with Chloe, then meets Chloe at a hotel and has sex with her. Afterwards, David asks her if she's been unfaithful. Catherine tells him she thinks he's been unfaithful. David does not respond.

The next afternoon the two women meet and Catherine calls off their relationship. That night Catherine and David go to a coffee house, where Catherine demands that David admit that he is having an affair. David denies it. Chloe suddenly walks in and David does not appear to know who she is. Chloe leaves quickly, and Catherine realizes that Chloe made up her encounters with David. Catherine confesses her sexual encounters with Chloe. David embraces and kisses her.

Chloe goes to Catherine's home and has sex with Catherine's son Michael (Max Thieriot) in Catherine and David's bed. Catherine arrives home to find them. Chloe tells Catherine that she cannot be bought off with money, and threatens to hurt Catherine with her hair pin. Catherine asks Chloe what she wants. Chloe asks for one last kiss and Catherine complies. Michael sees, startling Catherine and causing her to accidentally push Chloe into the bedroom window, breaking the glass. Chloe manages to grab hold of the frame but then she slips and Chloe falls to her death. Paramedics wheel away the body while Catherine is comforted by her husband. Later, at Michael's graduation party, Catherine is wearing Chloe's hairpin in her hair.

The film opened in 350 theatres to mixed reviews. Chloe was given a 53% "Rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.^[14] Metacritic, which assigns a normalized score from major reviewers, gave the film a 48 out of 100, based on 33 reviews.^[15] Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 3.5 out of 4 stars,^[16] while Elizabeth Weitzman of New York Daily News gave the film 1 out of 5 stars.

• Financed solely in France, the film was shot in Toronto. Several famous local landmarks can be seen, such as Allan Gardens, Cafe Diplomatico, The Rivoli, the Windsor Arms Hotel, the Royal York Hotel, the Royal Ontario Museum, the CN Tower, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Ontario College of Art.^[17]
• Liam Neeson's wife, Natasha Richardson, had a skiing accident during filming. Neeson decided to leave the set to take care of his wife, who died from her injury a few days later. The filmmakers re-arranged the shooting schedule accordingly for Neeson’s absence.^[18] Just a few days after his wife's death, Neeson returned to the set and filmed the remainder of his scenes in two days.^[19]
• Jason Reitman helped persuade Amanda Seyfried to star in this film.^[20]
• Canadian indie rock band Raised by Swans has two songs featured in the movie and the band is mentioned several times by Chloe.
• Anne Fontaine (the writer/director of Nathalie...) said that she was interested in Egoyan's take on her original. Fontaine also said that she even wasn't happy with Nathalie..., because the two lead actresses of the film objected to Fontaine's original intention for a lesbian relationship to develop between their characters.^[21]

Demetri Martin (born May 25, 1973) is an American comedian, actor, artist, musician, writer and humorist. Martin is best known for his work as a stand-up comedian, contributor on The Daily Show and for his Comedy Central show Important Things with Demetri Martin.

Early life[link]

Demetri Martin was born to a Greek American family^[1] in New York City, New York, and grew up in Toms River, New Jersey. He is the son of Lillian, a nutritionist, and Dean C. Martin, now deceased, a Greek Orthodox priest.^[2] Martin graduated from Yale University in 1995. Although he was accepted into Harvard Law School, he went to New York University School of Law after he received a full scholarship.^[3]

In 2001, Martin caught his first big break in stand-up comedy when he appeared on Comedy Central's stand-up showcase Premium Blend. At the 2003 Edinburgh Festival Fringe he won the Perrier award with his show If I....^[4] The show was turned into a British television special in 2004. From 2003 to 2004, Martin wrote for Late Night with Conan O'Brien.^[5] In 2004, Martin had his own Comedy Central Presents stand-up special. His special was divided into three parts. In the first, he performed in traditional stand-up comedy fashion. In the second segment, he used humorous drawings as visual aids, which would serve either as the punchline or a background. During the third segment, he played a guitar and put on a pseudo-play where he would strum his guitar while alternating between playing harmonica and talking; some of his comedian friends dressed as fairies and dragons acted according to the story he was telling, detailing the magical land where his jokes came from. Martin's mother and grandmother also appeared.

Since late 2005, he has been credited as a contributor on The Daily Show, on which he has appeared as the named "Senior Youth Correspondent" and on which he hosts a segment called "Trendspotting". He has used this segment to talk about so-called hip trends among youth such as hookahs, wine, guerilla marketing and Xbox 360. A piece about social networking featured his profile on MySpace.^[6] On March 22, 2007, Demetri made another appearance on The Daily Show, talking about the Viacom lawsuit against Google and YouTube.

He has recorded a comedy CD/DVD titled These Are Jokes, which was released on September 26, 2006. This album also features Saturday Night Live member Will Forte and stand-up comedian Leo Allen.

Martin returned to The Daily Show on March 22, 2006, as the new Youth Correspondent, calling his segment "Professional Important News with Demetri Martin". In 2007, he starred in a Fountains of Wayne music video for "Someone to Love" as Seth Shapiro, a character in the song. He also starred in the video for the Travis single "Selfish Jean", in which he wears multiple t-shirts with lyrics written on them.

On September 2, 2007, Martin appeared on the season finale of the HBO series Flight of the Conchords. He appeared as a keytar player named Demetri.^[7]

He also had a part in the movie The Rocker (2008) starring Rainn Wilson. Martin played the part of the videographer when the band in the movie was making their first music video.

In 2009, he hosted and starred in his own television show called Important Things With Demetri Martin on Comedy Central. Later in June, it was announced his show had been renewed for a second season.^[8] The second season premiered, again on Comedy Central, on February 4, 2010. Martin has stated that Important Things will not return for a third season.

Prior to completing work on his second season, Martin starred in the comedy-drama film Taking Woodstock (2009), directed by Ang Lee, which premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. In the film Martin plays Elliot Tiber, a closeted gay artist who has given up his ambitions in the city to move upstate and help his old-world Jewish family run their Catskill Mountains motel. The film is based on the book written by Tiber.

On April 25, 2011, Martin released his first book, titled This Is a Book by Demetri Martin.

Martin was slated to portray Paul DePodesta as Oakland Athletics assistant GM to Billy Beane in the 2011 movie Moneyball, however was dropped and Jonah Hill took his place in the movie.

Martin sold his movie concept Will to DreamWorks; he is expected to play a key supporting role.^[9] He will play the lead in the film Moon People, a pitch that he sold to Columbia Pictures.

Martin also signed a blind script deal with CBS in October 2010 to produce, write, and star in his own television series.^[10]

After CBS was shown the pilot for the series, they decided not to air it.^[11]

On August 11, 2011, Fox ordered a presentation of a new animated show they might air.^{[citation needed]}

If I is a Perrier Comedy Award-winning comedy one-man show written and performed by Demetri Martin at the 2003 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.^[12] It was also aired on British television as a special. The show is an autobiographical examination of Martin's life, as seen through various definitions of the word "if."

The title of the special comes from a lengthy palindromic poem that Martin wrote; the words "if I" are at the center of the poem.^[13]

Comedic style[link]

Martin is known for being an unconventional stand-up comic. He uses one-liners and drawings on a "large pad", as well as accompanying his jokes with music on either guitar, harmonica, piano, keyboard, glockenspiel, toy bells, ukulele, or tambourine, sometimes all at once.^[14] He has cited comedian Steven Wright as an important influence (both use deadpan one-liners in their acts) and he is also a fan of Bill Cosby.^[15]

Personal life[link]

According to a July 2011 interview on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Demetri had a short-lived marriage to a girl he knew from high school. They began dating after high school and got married when he was in NYU Law School and she was attending NYU Medical School. He was aged 25 and in the end of his marriage when his stand-up career began.^[3]

He is extremely allergic to nuts and peanuts.^[16]

Martin moved to Santa Monica, California in 2009.^[17]

Aidan Davis (born 23 March 1997) is a youth street dancer from Birmingham, England who in 2009 reached the final of the third series of the ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent. He finished fifth place overall and later that year he toured the United Kingdom, making live performances with the series' other finalists.^[1]

Davis has made numerous performances since Britain's Got Talent, including the 'Diversitoys' tour with Diversity, and as a presenter on the Friday Download show on CBBC.

[edit] Britain's Got Talent: 2009

In May 2009, Davis auditioned for the third series of the ITV television talent show Britain's Got Talent. In his audition he performed to Flo Rida's "Low". He received positive comments from all three judges, with Simon Cowell saying "I think you're better than any dancer on this show, you are super, super, super talented". He received three yeses from Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan and was put through to the next round.^[2] Despite never having had a dance lesson, at the time Davis was compared to the series 2 winner George Sampson and was later chosen as one of the 40 semi-finalists.^[3][4]

He performed for a second time in the semi-final on 29 May 2009, dancing to "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake.^[5] Again he received a standing ovation from the audience and positive comments from the judges. Amanda Holden said that Davis "blew her away" and he "went through the roof."^[6] Cowell told him, "whatever 'it' is, you've got it." He also praised Davis' confidence and charisma.^[6] Morgan compared him to a young Justin Timberlake, declaring him "a delight to watch".^[6] He was automatically put through to the final after receiving the highest public vote.^[6]

In the final, on 30 May 2009, he again performed to Flo Rida's "Low", which was his audition piece. He received a standing ovation. Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan loved the performance. Simon Cowell, however, told him his performance was not as good as his performance the previous night in the semi-final. He told him: "To be honest with you it wasn't as good. You had 24 hours and limited time to put it together. But you still have a huge future ahead of you" Davis later said that he felt "gutted" by this, but Cowell urged "Don't listen to me - no one else does. There's the public vote".^[7][8]

He did not rank in the top three acts in the competition, finishing overall in fifth place, receiving 6.5% of the total 4 million votes cast. After the show, Simon Cowell spoke of his regret at making Davis cry during the final.^[9]

[edit] Post Britain's Got Talent

Davis performed in the Britain's Got Talent - The Live Tour 2009 in June and July 2009 at venues all over the UK along with the other finalists from the show.^[1] It was reported that Davis was going to team up with series 3 winners Diversity; although they did perform together on the tour, Davis never officially became a member of Diversity.^[10]

Davis performed at a Michael Jackson dance tribute show on 30 August 2009. He was lined up with other dance stars from Britain's Got Talent, including George Sampson, Diversity and Signature at the Opera House Theatre in Blackpool Winter Gardens. Acts that also appeared were MD Productions, from the first series of Britain's Got Talent, Flava, Sugar Free and Marcquelle Ward who plays BB from television show Britannia High.^[11]

On 24 September 2009, Davis performed at the launch night of Birmingham's Style in the City event. He showed off some of his "popping" moves at the event, hosted by Mr Hudson.^[12] The following month, Davis filmed an advert for Cheetos Sweetos in Turkey.^[13]

Davis joined Peter Andre, Alesha Dixon, Alan Carr, Lenny Henry and the Sugababes for the 2009 Rock with Laughter event which took place on 18 & 19 December 2009 at the LG Arena.^[14][15] Lenny Henry, host of the event, spoke highly of Davis:

Aidan's appearances on Britain’s Got Talent were extraordinary! That someone so young could be so funky, bendy and groovy whilst also doing sums, and pulling girls' pig tails at school is incredible. He is our own Justin Timberlake. I'm so pleased he's going to be making an appearance on Rock with Laughter – and I'm sure the audience’s cheers will ring to the rafters when he rocks his body.^[16]

Davis toured with Talent winners Diversity in Spring 2010.^[17] The tour was named "Bringing a Toy Story to Life" Plus Many Special Guest's, which specialises in 'bringing toys to life'. The tour also features Talent semi - finalists Sugar Free, rap artist Aggro Santos, Contortionist Delia Du Sol, and Beatboxer Petebox.^[18] He performed at the Christmas lights switch on in St Helens, Merseyside on 14 November.^[19] Davis performed at the Northfield Shopping Centre on 5 December,^[20] and on 8 December, he performed at the Pavilions Shopping Centre which was featured on Central Tonight.^[21] On 1 August 2010, Davis performed at Nantwich live festival alongside many other acts. He also toured with Diversity again in November/ December 2010 in the second run of their Diversitoys tour, this time titled Diversitoys; bringing a toy story to life at Christmas

2011-present[link]

Davis is a presenter on the CBBC TV show Friday Download. Davis presents the 'Dance Download', where he teaches the audience some of his signature dance moves. Other presenters are singer Dionne Bromfield and actors Ceallach Spellman, Richard Wisker, Tyger Drew-Honey and Georgia Lock.^[22]

In 2011, Davis began posting weekly video updates on his Facebook page every Sunday to keep his fans informed. He answers questions and talks about topics his fans want to know about during these videos, and he also gives shoutouts to fans asking.

Davis currently attends St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in Kings Norton, Birmingham and is in Year 10.^[23] He lives in Selly Oak, Birmingham with his parents.^[23]

Eva Pope (born 16 November 1967)^[1][2] is an English actress. She trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.^[3]

Career[link]

Her first major role was playing Tanya Pooley in ITV soap-opera Coronation Street from 1993 to 1994. Since then, she has made appearances in Cold Feet, The Bill, Heartbeat, Peak Practice (as Claire Brightwell), Men of the World, Holby City, Casualty, Strictly Confidential, Adventure Inc., Vincent, Bad Girls, Life on Mars, Sorted, Spooks: Code 9 and the film Shadow Man.^[4] From November 2007 to July 2010, she appeared in the lead role of headteacher Rachel Mason in the BBC drama Waterloo Road.^[5]

Her theatre credits include roles in The Comedy of Errors, Turkey Time and Hobson's Choice. She is a regular performer (and part of the original cast) of the international touring play Seven Deadly Sins Four Deadly Sinners and in November 2007, appeared at the Théâtre Princesse Grace, Monte Carlo, directed by Marc Sinden, as part of his British Theatre Season, Monaco.

In 2007 she took over as head mistress, Rachel Mason from former head Jack Rimmer, playing alongside Neil Morrisey playing Eddie Lawson as her deputy head. She played half of season 3 and all of season 4&5. At the end of season 3 her old/original name of Amanda Fenshaw, which she changed as she used to be a prostitute, which everyone found out, in the same episode as the fire, which nearly destroyed the whole school. She nearly left at the end of season 4, as she was tired, and in season 5 executive head Max Tyler tried to force her out by bullying, and originally came in when he saw that she wasn't capable on her own. In the end of season 5 she became attached to new chef Adam Fleet, they soon got married, so she resigned.

She is divorced from graphic designer, Laurence Lassalle,^[6] with whom she has a daughter, Elise (born 1995).^[7]
