'Syrian rebels' aim dictatorship, not democracy '
Washington's double standard approach is evident in the Syrian crisis. It supports the armed opposition, which wants to turn the country into a dictatorship, claiming that their war against the Assad government has democracy as the goal, Aleksey Pushkov, the chair of the Russian parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, told RT. Syria 'friends' fuel murder with promises of weapons for rebels
Syria's President says countries like the US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey are hindering peace in his country by supporting those he calls 'terrorists'. Bashar al-Assad accused Washington of being partially responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians by partnering with the rebels. The Syrian army have started large-scale drills simulating defense against outside attacks. Some opposition leaders previously appealed to the West for foreign intervention against the regime. But as Maria Finoshina reports from Syria, many in the country are fearing for their lives if the rebel forces get what they want. 'Syrian rebels create mayhem to blame it on Assad regime'
Moscow says those behind the latest massacre in Syria want to unleash sectarian violence and ignite full civil war. Over two hundred people are believed to have been killed in the central province of Hama. Both government and rebel forces blame each other for the slaughter - while the UN remains paralysed on whether to extend its observer mission, or impose sanctions. RT talks to author and Middle East expert Tariq Ali who joins me now from London. Syria on Air: One-sided media spin behind insurgency trench warfare
Turkey insists its military jet shot down by Syrian forces on Friday wasn't spying - but was on a training flight. The incident adds to the pressure piled up on Damascus - as NATO is now going to look into what happened. Syria maintains it was just protecting its sovereignty - as the plane crossed into its territory - by mistake, according to Turkey, which is a NATO member. RT's Maria Finoshina, who's in Damascus, reports on how media is turning into yet another tool of war, sometimes just as dangerous as a rifle. 'Attack on Iran after Syria falls major goal of the West'
The UN's special envoy to Syria says international peace efforts have not succeeded, partly as a result of divisions between world powers. This comes a day after US Secretary of State Clinton said Russia and China will pay a price for allegedly supporting Assad. Patrick Henningsen, a Mideast analyst and editor at infowars.com, believes Syria is being used by the US as a proxy to start a war with Iran.

'No chance of unity government in Syria'
Iraq's Foreign Minister is blaming al-Qaeda members for orchestrating the uprising against Syria's president. In a news briefing, he said militants from the terror network were flowing into Syria. Violence there is worsening, with over a hundred people killed in the last three days. Reports say fighting's intensifying in Homs, where troops are clashing with rebels. Paul Sheldon Foote, a Middle East expert from California State University, says he doesn't believe the coalition government is possible in Syria. Shades of Blood: One-sided Syria war media biggest barrier to peace
The UN has demanded women, children, the elderly and injured to be evacuated from Syrian combat zones following the suspension of its observer mission. Heavy fighting continues in towns across Syria with scores of people being killed in clashes between the opposition and government troops. On Sunday, activists say regime forces tried to root out rebels from urban areas by heavy shelling in the central city of Homs. They also say that, in the town of Douma, just outside the capital Damascus, rebels opened fire on a bus of soldiers killing eight. The US is now consulting its allies on what to do about the escalation of violence, but has acknowledged a Libya-style intervention to topple the Assad government would be difficult. The relative proportions of each category remain disputed.

Syria's Torture Centers Revealed
www.hrw.org Former detainees and defectors have identified the locations, agencies responsible, torture methods used, and, in many cases, the commanders in charge of 27 detention facilities run by Syrian intelligence agencies. The systematic patterns of ill-treatment and torture that Human Rights Watch documented clearly point to a state policy of torture and ill-treatment and therefore constitute a crime against humanity. Media War Casualty: Gulf states ditch Syrian TV dramas
TV soap operas are something Syria has been famous for all around the Arab world. They're considered original, emotional and funny. But during the conflict in Syria its trademark dramas have become yet another dividing factor. Gulf countries, which had traditionally helped fund them, withdrew from production - leaving a huge financial gap. And matters were made worse when the Arab League called for a boycott of Syrian satellite channels - including drama ones. RT's Maria Finoshina has more. 'Russia, China won't be duped over Syria'
Russia's warning that the UN Human Rights resolution condeming the Syrian leadership for last week's Houla massacre risks derailing the peace plan. Moscow called it premature because the investigation's ongoing - and that it's putting pressure on the Security Council, where Russia's resisting foreign military action. On Sunday, President Assad insisted his troops had nothing to do with the slaughter of more than a hundred people in the city. He blamed armed rebel gangs for the attack, and outside forces for instigating the conflict to trigger intervention. Washington, which backs the Syrian opposition and the push for regime change, admits there are plans for military action. Syria Responds to Chemical Weapon Threat Through Escalation of Force
For the first time since the conflict began, syria has used artillery against insurgent position within residential areas in Bab Dreb, Homs. The escalation comes after NATO and allies equip the insurgents with the latest arms, including chemical weapons. Syria's hand has been forced, innocents are bound to suffer, will this lead to an intervention/a third world war?

'Israel gives up status quo in Syria caring about post-Assad time'
As UN observers struggle to make a difference in conflict-torn Syria, international calls for military intervention are growing louder with Israel now joining in. Damascus is on the defensive, as nationwide fighting rolls into the city, while state media claims that terrorists are preparing new plots to provoke regime change. The Syrian National Council has been at odds with some opposition groups inside Syria, and the new SNC head's pledging rapprochement. Asia Times correspondent Pepe Escobar talks to RT. He says the man - and the Council - are too disconnected from the frontline. Besides Israel joined the Syrian discussion. Inside Syria - Nawaf Fares: 'The Syrian regime is dead'
He is one of the highest-profile defectors from the Syrian regime. Until a few days ago, Nawaf Fares was Bashar al-Assad's ambassador in Baghdad, Iraq's capital. He has been a very prominent figure in Damascus for years. After a career with the police, he served as governor in several Syrian provinces. He held senior Baath party posts since the time of the late president Hafez al-Assad. And finally he was appointed ambassador to Baghdad in 2008, which made him the first Syrian envoy to Iraq for nearly three decades. Fares, a Sunni who is said to have close ties to Syrian security, is the second senior diplomat to quit the embattled government since the beginning of the Syrian uprising. The first was Bassam Imadi, the Syrian ambassador to Sweden. Western diplomats have hailed recent defections as a sign that the al-Assad government is slowly beginning to crumble from within. So, why did Fares, once known as a confidant of the president, change sides? What is really going on inside the corridors of power in Damascus? And what does he make of the latest diplomatic moves as rival draft resolutions are exchanged at the UN - in the aftermath of yet another massacre which some say may have killed as many as 200 people? Inside Syria, with presenter James Bays, speaks exclusively to Nawaf Fares, the former Syrian ambassador to Iraq and one of the regime's high-profile defectors.
