The Baby P Effect and Social Services
The start to the BS of Social Services Baby P the prelude to his tragic Death Social workers in the borough of Haringey in North London had decided he was safe living with his mother and that her major difficulty as a parent was poverty. Getting tougher: Social workers in the borough of Haringey in North London, led by Children's Service Director Sharon Shoesmith, had decided Baby P was safe living with his mother Numbers of children removed from their homes rose rapidly in the wake of the death, and shot up even faster after Peter's mother and two men were jailed for causing his death at the Old Bailey in November 2008. In April 2008 some 380 children were taken from their homes into state care. Last month the figure was 903, and in the first ten months of the financial year which started last April 8403 children were taken into care. The total being looked after by the state is more than 65000. In the past, social workers have often tried to return children to inadequate mothers or left them to languish in children's homes or with rapidly changing foster families. The result has been many children have left state care with no educational qualifications and gone on to lives of crime or single parenthood. The head of the CAFCASS court assistance service for children, Anthony Douglas, said yesterday after the organisation released the figures: 'All agencies need to factor these much larger increases into their planning systems, resource allocations, workforce development ...

'Radical' Social Work's History and Future: Our Field, Our State, Our Year
The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Social Work Presents: "'Radical' Social Work's History and Future: Our Field, Our State, Our Year" This event was the kick-off for the School of Social Work's 2011-12 Macro Seminar Series, and featured Professor Mark Courtney from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration and Ron Chance, Community Programs Manager for the Dane County Department of Human Services. This particular event emerged from student discussions about the role of social work practice and education in a time of relative political upheaval in the State of Wisconsin, across the US, and around the globe. The SSW Macro Seminar Series was begun in 2010 out of student desire to learn more about "macro" social work -- meaning practice at the levels of policy, organizations and community -- and to network with local community practitioners. With generous funding from an SSW alumna (BA 1949, PhD 1969), the school has brought in an array of speakers across the macro practice spectrum. Filmed on February 9, 2012.

Fighting Back against Bad Social Workers
Safeguarding our Children - Protecting our Children from whom? Social Services are about Safeguarding and Protecting Themselves When meeting Social Services at your home Never offer them tea and biscuits - they will think its ok to stay longer because your nice. Always record every conversation you have with them. Ask them to write out an Agenda of why they are coming to your house. Manage your time you also have things to do. Always stick to the point. Always challenge them if you don't agree, If you are Black they will say your Aggressive so be polite as you can, even have somebody else proof read and who can act as your witness to correspondences. Demand to receive your report at least 7 days before any hearing / meeting. If this is not possible ask to adjourn due to not being able to have enough time to read documents and to challenge social services -where they obtained their information. Social workers work for the local authority, some social workers believe that they are the authority a bit like say your Bishop or Pastor believes because they work for God that they God.
