Go West Live featuring Alan Murphy 1987 - part 1 of 4
Go West Live featuring Alan Murphy 1987 - part 1 of 4
Go West in concert as part of the Runaway Train tour promoting the "Dancing on the Couch" album. This is the second incarnation of the live band - the core remains Peter Cox, Richard Drummie and Alan Murphy but now with Pete Adams (keyboard), Jaz Lochrie (bass) and Jimmy Copley (drums). I know a lot of fans feel the first line up was best but these guys are totally on it - they're superb players and as tight as a gnats crotch here! Part One song list: . SOS (very uncharacteristic couple of errors by Alan here but who cares!) . True Colours . Chinese Whispers Please remember this has been captured from a VHS tape that is now nearly 25 years old so forgive the glitches/graininess and the fact that Chrysalis didn't put a bloody HiFi track on it! Enjoy...

Alan Murphy guitar solo "King of Wishful Thinking" - Go West
Alan Murphy guitar solo "King of Wishful Thinking" - Go West
"King of Wishful Thinking" was released not long after Alan Murphy died and when I first heard it there seemed to be an obvious gap left in anticipation of Alan's solo. Being young, arrogant and egotistical at the time, I decided I'd have a go at being Murphy and put a part in there. Irreverent? Well yes, maybe. Disrespectful? No, I don't think so -- Alan was my absolute guitar idol, I wasn't trying to replace him, just be able to do something even remotely in his ball park. The quality isn't great because this has been rescued from a cassette -- at the time, 1990, I had a Fostex X15 4 track, an Aria RS Esprit with Kahler trem (obviously!) and a Roland GP8. I listened back to the original CD today to show my girlfriend the gaps (I believe) Peter and Richard left unfilled and, totally unexpectedly, got completely overwhelmed with emotion as their mark of respect hit me. Play on Alan -- you were and still are totally unique.

The King is Dead (Alan uses what was, at the time, a revolutionary guitar midi controller called the Stepp DG1 to play the trumpet solo - ironically his idol Alan Holdsworth favoured the Stepp's rival, Synthaxxe) . We Close Our Eyes (lovely light clean solo before Alan rocks out!)
