MIPTV is an event which takes place annually in Cannes, using the facilities and infrastructure which the town has developed over the years to host other important events such as the Cannes Film Festival amongst other events.

It is essentially a content market for co-producing, buying, selling, financing and distributing entertainment content. It provides the people involved in the TV, film, digital and audiovisual content, production and distribution industry a market conference and networking forum to discover future trends and trade content rights on a global level.

This event is very closely related to the MIPCOM event, but retains its distinct focus. The MIPCOM event takes place in the same venue in October each year.

The congress includes "Content 360" media festival which aims to showcase the best in creative & innovative productions for cross platform (TV, Film, Mobile, Internet) distribution.

Since 2010 MIPTV launched MIPFormats, "the pre-MIPTV formats conference & pitching showcase" that gathers producers, commissioners, buyers, distributors and aspiring creators of breakthrough formats.The event is organised in association with C21FormatsLab. In 2011, 665 participants came to MIPFormats, and 401 Companies from 57 Countries.

MIPDoc is where international buyers, sellers, producers and commissioners of documentary and factual programmes screen new content and do business. MIPDoc calls itself "the international showcase for documentary screenings". Key MIPDoc 2011 figures :

David M. Zaslav (born January 15, 1960)^[1] is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Communications, a position he has held since January 2007 ^[2][3]. He was previously an executive at NBC Universal^[2][4].

Career[link]

After BS degree from State University of New York at Binghamton, he graduated with honors (JD) from Boston University School of Law in 1985, Zaslav started his career as an attorney with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Lieby and MacRae in New York. He joined NBC Universal in 1989 and went on to play an important role in the founding of CNBC in the same year, and later MSNBC in 1996.^[2] He remained President, Cable and Domestic TV and New Media Distribution, October 1999 to November 2006.^[2]

He has been pivotal behind the founding of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network in 2011^[5].

Richard Timothy "Tim" Kring (born July 9, 1957) is a U.S. screenwriter and television producer, best known for his creation of the drama series Strange World, Crossing Jordan, Heroes, and Touch.

Kring is Jewish.^[1] He graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts in 1983.^[2]

He got his start as a screenwriter writing for the TV show Knight Rider. One of his earlier projects was cowriter for an episode of Misfits of Science, which, like his later project Heroes, featured superpowered humans as a main theme. Another early project was Teen Wolf Too, cowritten by Jeph Loeb. The two would later reteam when producing Heroes. Kring also cowrote the book Shift: A Novel (Gates of Orpheus Trilogy) with Dale Peck, published in 2010.

After the cancellation of Heroes in 2010, Kring created the TV series Touch, a drama concentrating on a father (Kiefer Sutherland) who discovers his autistic and mute son can predict events.^[3] The series premiered on January 25th, 2012 on Fox.

Awards and nominations[link]

Kring was an Emmy Award nominee in 2007 for Outstanding Drama Series as the producer for Heroes. He was also named one of the Masters of Sci Fi TV for his work on the series.^[4]
