Satellite Television ident (1982)
Satellite Television ident (1982)
First of all, apologies for the poor quality. I'd say this is quite rare, it's the ident for the first pan European satellite television service, aptly named Satellite Television. It began broadcasting in 1982 from London via the OTS-2 satellite. The company was bought in late 1983 by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and relaunched as Sky Channel on ECS-1 at 13° east in January 1984. It moved yet again to Astra 1A in 1989. The rest is history!

ESAT TV - Ethiopian Satellite Television: ECADF Ad
ESAT TV - Ethiopian Satellite Television: ECADF Ad
ecadforum.com It is no secret that the Ethiopian Satellite Television, ESAT, has become the most popular television program in Ethiopia and around the world. Despite the continuous jamming of ESAT by the Ethiopian regime, ESAT has stolen the hearts of millions in such a short time. Tens of thousands have called ESAT television station when it went off the air twice. The emails and the numerous telephone calls ESAT's office recieved seem to indicate a solid moral backing for this free media. And ESAT is a must-have for our people in Ethioipa who at this time are denied access to free television and print media. That is why our people need ESAT more than anything else. They want to be informed and they like to know what is actually going on in their country. Knowledge is power. Informed people can and will change their circumstances. They will bring, on their own, the changes they seek. But we have to give them the chance to determine their destiny. ESAT is that chance. And it is the means to our people to establish peace, demorcacy, and freedom in Ethiopia. And the burden to provide this chance to our people lies totally on Diaspora Ethiopians. It is a historical duty and a patriotic obligation to support ESAT financially at this critical moment. If we say we love our country and if we mean what we say, then let us prove it. Let us keep ESAT on air for the sake of our people and Ethiopia. Our people are forced to live in total darkness. They have nowhere to go and nobody ...

TV5 and Nation Broadcasting Corporation filed a case to NTC on SkyCable's refusal to carry AKSYONtv
ABC Development Corporation (TV5) and Nation Broadcasting Corporation has filed a case against SkyCable Corporation for its refusal to carry AKSYONtv (UHF Channel 41), which is a Free-TV Channels. SkyCable is basically violating the "Must-Carry Tule" for Terrestrial Channels (NTC Memorandum Circular No. 4-08-88). The "Must-Carry Rule" basically mean Terrestrial Channels must be carried by Cable & Satellite Companies, because NTC is the only one who have "exclusive jurisdiction to supervise, regulate and control telecommunications and broadcast services/facilities in the Philippines. The imposition of the must-carry rule is within the NTC's power to promulgate rules and regulations, as public safety and interest may require, to encourage a larger and more effective use of communications, radio and television broadcasting facilities, and to maintain effective competition among private entities in these activities whenever the Commission finds it reasonably feasible" Related Case: ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation vs Philippine Multi-Media Systems, Inc. NTDTV Satellite Broadcasts to China Shut Off
NTDTV Satellite Broadcasts to China Shut Off
Uncensored TV Service to China Shut Off Seven weeks away from the Olympics, millions of households in China are no longer receiving the satellite broadcast from the largest independent Chinese-language TV network. New York, June 23 -- On Monday, June 16th, at approximately 6:30 pm US EST time, New Tang Dynasty Television's (NTDTV) satellite broadcast covering Asia suddenly stopped after more than four years on air. Eutelsat Communications, the satellite operator, said that its W5 satellite had experienced "an anomaly to part of its power generator subsystem" and it had "reduced by a small number the operating transponders on the satellite" in collaboration with the satellite's manufacturer, Thales Alenia Space. One week has passed, NTDTV's signal remains dark across Asia, and we still do not know what caused the anomaly, why NTDTV's service was shut off, and when it will be restored. Under normal commercial practice, if a transponder goes down then the satellite company responsible rapidly assures alternative service for its channels. "This is an urgent matter of highest importance to NTDTV and to our viewers who depend on us for uncensored news and information in Mainland China," said Zhong Lee, President of NTDTV. NTDTV has received much support on our audience feedback web site, including these messages from China: "We feel like we cannot breathe the fresh air if we cannot see NTDTV. We feel suffocated when we see the faked news and reports from other [Chinese] TV ...

VOA Signs Off Broadcasts to China
VOA Signs Off Broadcasts to China
Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Become a Fan on FACEBOOK: on.fb.me US government-owned Voice of America (VOA), once regarded by Beijing as an enemy radio station, plans to sign off its broadcasts to China in Oct. 2011. Chinese dissidents and some US congressmen criticize such a decision as showing weakness to the CCP, and request the US Congress to veto the decision. On Oct. 1, 2011, VOA will completely sign off its short- and medium-wave radio broadcasts and satellite TV programs to China. As the world's most populous country, China also ranks high on information censorship. The cancelation of VOA Chinese programs ahead of programs in other languages has surprised many VOA employees and other media professionals. This unexecuted plan has caused a stir in the congress. Rep. David Wu, Oregon Democrat, said to VOA, he opposes any cuts to its Chinese broadcasts. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California Republican, also opposes to this plan, saying to Washington Times, 「This is another alarming sign that America is cowering before China's gangster regime.」 Rep. Rohrabacher emphasized: The Chinese people are our greatest allies, and the free flow of information is our greatest weapon. He said, this was cowering to China and gives out an absolutely wrong signal. An Obama administration official familiar with VOA said, the cuts are due to CCP's refusal to continue assisting VOA with its FM and AM services in China. The State Department didn't want to pressure Beijing, in fear of ...
