Pain Management North - Lidocaine (Lidoderm) Patch
Pain Management North - Lidocaine (Lidoderm) Patch
If your pain is localized to a particular area underneath your skin, wouldn't it be nice to have some local anesthetic delivered to right over the painful area. That's possible with the use of a lidocaine (Lidoderm) patch, which is especially useful for the treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia. Please also see our video on the Burprenorphine (Butrans) Patch at www.youtube.com Like this video? Don't forget to rate it and leave a comment. Drawing lidocaine
Drawing lidocaine
i was at work when i made this video, so there is no commentary...read the description for a general step by step of what you're seeing. my mom asked me if i was doing this safely...so i took my ipod to work and took a video of myself drawing two 1.5ml syringes of lidocaine. i work in a dermatology clinic and use this stuff every single day. lidocaine is a local anesthetic used to numb patients before procedures...in my case they are biopsies, both punch and shave. At first i am fumbling around getting out equipment that wasn't on the table when i started and what not, but the procedure is pretty straight forward. the red needle tip is called a blunt fill, it's significantly less sharp than a regular needle that is used only to draw up medications. The yellowish-looking tip that i screwed on after is the actual needle, an 18g (very small) needle about a half inch long used to actually inject the medication into the patient. the yellow plastic part covers the needle at all times when it is not being directed into the patient's skin. When i started the procedure you'll notice that i uncapped the lidocaine and then wiped it down with an alcohol swab...you don't have to do so with a brand new container but i make it a habit to do it always, and thus not forget to do it when you're re-using a vial of the drug. When drawing, it's best to inject the vial of medication with air, equal to the amount of fluid you would like to withdraw first, which is what you didn't see me doing ...

Lumps, Bumps & Lidocaine
Lumps, Bumps & Lidocaine
[health4men.info This video started as a lecture for student nurse practitioners. Featured subjects include common "lumps and bumps" (epidermoid inclusion cyst, lipoma, abscess) and finally a debate on the "myth" prohibiting the use of lidocaine and epinephrine for digital ring blocks. It all started in 1903 when Braun, the man who first used procaine (progenitor to lidocaine) with 'suparenin' (epinephrine), immediately declared—based on sheer conjecture—"if the action of suprarenin (epinephrine) be too intense or long continued, gangrene of the tissues can occur, particularly if the nutrition of the part is already interfered with, as, for instance in arteriosclerosis of the extremities, wounds, or plastic flaps." Please post comments and questions and I will answer back. Keith Seidel, NP

Dupuytren's - Lidocaine injection
Dupuytren's - Lidocaine injection
The really fun lidocaine injection prior to the cord rupture. The injection was a lot less painful than last time but did not numb the cord itself. The manipulation and rupture was done very quickly but was really painful this time due to the lack of numbing. I have a second cord on this hand that needs to be treated in 6 - 8 weeks

Kaiser injecting Lidocaine into my wounded knee
Kaiser injecting Lidocaine into my wounded knee
First a disclaimer: Although I don't own any stock in Kaiser, nor do I have any friends or relatives working there, I thoroughly love the treatment my family and I have been receiving from them for almost 30 years now! They've covered us for everything from maternity and broken bones to cancer and extensive surgeries - virtually no expense has been barred when the illness or injury was serious. All of that great medical attention by an extraordinarily professional staff at what's been very affordable rates for my family and me. So, although I'm not trying to sell you anything I recommend Kaiser Permante without hesitation - it's worked for us! Okay, down to the nitty-gritty of this video - I seriously injured my left knee while backcountry skiing on a Saturday afternoon near the Continental Divide in early March. It hurt and bled so much, on the trail, that I almost vomited (I don't know why I'd have that kind of reaction to an injury but I did...). So, as you can see from all of the associated videos, I made my way back to Denver over a slippery and congested Interstate 70 to Kaiser's after-hours clinic in Lakewood (the only one I could remember the location of that was close to the highway). The medical staff at Kaiser gave me immediate attention and spent a lot of time and effort cleaning, prepping, and suturing the wound. You can see all of their efforts in the associated videos I've posted. Although they gave me permission to record what they were doing I tried to ...
