Illinois Medical District (CTA station)

Illinois Medical District is a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system, serving the Blue Line's Forest Park branch. Prior to June 25, 2006, the station was known as Medical Center. As the name implies, it primarily serves the Illinois Medical District and Tri-Taylor neighborhood, but is also close to the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks sports teams.

Medical Center station (Washington Metro)

Medical Center is an island platformed Washington Metro station in Bethesda, Maryland, United States. The station was opened on August 25, 1984, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Red Line, the station serves the National Institutes of Health campus and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and is located at Rockville Pike and South Drive. Since there is little retail in the area and no commuter parking lot, this station is used almost exclusively by employees of and visitors to those two institutions.

The station opened on August 25, 1984. Its opening coincided with the completion of 6.8 miles (10.9 km) of rail northwest of the Van Ness–UDC station and the opening of the Bethesda, Friendship Heights, Grosvenor and Tenleytown stations.

In September 2009, Montgomery County submitted a $20 million federal grant application to build a pedestrian tunnel under Wisconsin Avenue to improve access to the Medical Center stop. Construction would have originally occurred in 2011, but the project was not approved until 2013.

St. Joseph's Hospital (St. Paul, Minnesota)

St. Joseph's Hospital is a 253-bed hospital located at 45 W. 10th St. in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. It is one of three tertiary hospitals located in St. Paul and the first hospital in Minnesota and currently a member of the HealthEast Care System.

History

St. Joseph's Hospital was founded in 1853 in Saint Paul, Minnesota as Minnesota's first hospital. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet founded the facility in response to the outbreak of cholera in the community.

St. Joseph's Hospital became one of the founding members of the HealthEast Care System when it was created in 1986.

A significant expansion was completed in 2008 with the opening of the de Paul Tower, a five-story addition to the hospital housing inpatient and outpatient programs, followed in 2010 by a new emergency room. The hospital is a member of the University of Minnesota’s Family Medicine and Community Health residency program.

Within HealthEast Care System, St. Joseph's Hospital is the center for the cardiac catheterization (cath) lab and open heart surgery. St. Joseph’s has been named among the nation’s “100 Top Hospitals for Cardiac Care.”

Originally to be called St. Mary's Hospital East, St. Josephs Hospital has undergone many transformations. History

The Sisters of Mercy came to Phoenix in 1892 to open a parish school. They were successful in that endeavor, but were also affected deeply by the suffering of tuberculosis victims. Realizing the most pressing need of the community, the Sisters expanded their original mission and began fund-raising to be able to establish a sanitarium.
