FC Twente boss Steve McClaren has warned that it will take an "absurd" bid to prise striker Luuk de Jong from the club amid reports Newcastle United are negotiating a deal.
The Evening Chronicle reports that De Jong, 21, has already visited St James' Park and that he was hugely impressed by the stadium and the city, and that Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias and club secretary Lee Charnley were in the Netherlands on Friday to hold talks over his signing.
Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach are also reported to be keen on De Jong, who scored 32 goals in all competitions last season, but McClaren has suggested a deal is unlikely.
"We hold all the cards," McClaren said in De Telegraaf. "Nobody has to leave. Only an absurd bid would see Luuk leave."
Twente have already allowed 20-year-old winger Ola John to join Benfica for an initial €9 million and McClaren added: "Every player has a price. We needed to sell a player to balance the books, but we sold Ola John to Benfica, so the pressure is off."
