NewsX@9: BJP's pragmatic move in Karnataka - NewsX
NewsX@9 is a NewsX special show which debates the main news event of the day. The BJP now has the dubious distinction of providing three chief ministers in Karnataka in four years. The central leadership once again is giving in to Yeddyurappa's arm twisting and replacing Sadananda Gowda with Jagadish Shettar. But the party's headache is far from over; Gowda is not going to go without a fight. So we ask today-Is this the end of the road for BJP in South India? We debate the question on the show and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue. Watch this NewsX debate special show NewsX@9. For more log onto - www.newsx.com

BJP criticises Chidambaram for remarks on middle class - NewsX
BJP today lashed out at Home Minister P Chidambaram for his remarks that the middle class is ready to pay for mineral water and ice-cream but can't bear an increase of Re 1 in price of wheat and rice, saying he has shown insensitivity towards them and ridiculed them. BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said Chidambaram does not understand the pain of the common man as he is confined to "air-conditioned rooms and flying in planes". "Chidambaram and the Congress are far removed from the common man. His comments are a joke on the people in a country where 50-60 crore live below the poverty line," he said. Condemning the statement, Hussain demanded that Chidambaram tender an apology. For more log on to www.newsx.com

BJP's Karnataka crisis: Gowda refuses to resign as CM - NewsX
Karnataka CM Sadanand Gowda has refused to resign till he gets his share in power either as State Party Prez post or Deputy CM. The crisis in Karnataka BJP is far from over. Sources say that Yeddyurappa is back at it again, with him demanding that he be made the president of State BJP. It is said that he has made it amply clear that if it is not him, his nominee alone should be made the party president in the state. BJP legislators in Karnataka will on Tuesday elect Jagadish Shettar as their new leader to make him the party's third chief minister in the state in four years. For more log onto - www.newsx.com

Kalam's disclosures: Disadvantage BJP?
It's a book that made headlines and much controversy days before its official release. Former President Kalam was today attacked by another NDA ally, the Shiv Sena, for saying he would have appointed Sonia Gandhi as Prime Minister in 2004 if she had staked claim to the post. The revelation in the former President's new book has punctured a long standing theory that it was his opposition to her foreign origins that stopped her from getting the top job. BJP and Nitish Kumar appear near meltdown over Narendra Modi
Nitish Kumar has been told by the BJP and its parent body that it doesn't need his advice on secularism, or who makes for a worthy Prime Minister. In response, the Bihar Chief Minister's party has warned that it's tempted to consider divorcing the BJP. Mr Kumar's Janata Dal United or JD(U) partners with the BJP in Bihar. It is also a senior member of the NDA coalition, which is led by the BJP.

BJP supports Sangma after division in NDA - NewsX
Reconciling with division within NDA over Presidential poll, BJP today announced its support to PA Sangma to pit him against UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee. The party, which failed to persuade allies like Shiv Sena and JD-U to support Sangma, argued that it was its duty as the main Opposition party not to allow a "walkover" to Congress which did not "consult" it. Announcing the decision at a press conference, BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley said the main opposition party could not support a government which is using "various manoeuvres", including investigative agencies, to rope in parties to stay in power. Prez poll: Gadkari's absence casts shadow over BJP meet - NewsX
The BJP may have finally surfaced with it's candidate of choice for the Presidential election... but still, there's no sign of party president Nitin Gadkari. His absence at the announcement of the BJP's presidential candidate has set tongues wagging. BJP brass was in full strength to announce its backing for PA Sangma as their presidential candidate. But It doesn't require a closer look to notice the conspicuous absence of the person meant to lead the BJP. Nitin Gadkari, who is poised to lead BJP for a second term in a row was nowhere in sight....even as BJP has decided to contest the president polls for the sake of contesting. Presidential poll: BJP picks PA Sangma, hopes to bring Mamata on board
The BJP has decided to support PA Sangma for President of India against Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. The Opposition party says that the Prime Minister's request for their support for Mr Mukherjee came too late after a "unilateral" decision to field Mr Mukherjee. On June 15, the Congress declared Mr Mukherjee as the candidate of the coalition it leads, the UPA.
