Carps
Carps
Carp is a common name for various species of an oily[1] freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae, a very large group of fish native to Europe and Asia. The cypriniformes (family cyprinidae) is traditionally grouped with the Characiformes, Siluriformes and Gymnotiformes to create the superorder Ostariophysi, since these groups have certain common features such as being found predominantly in fresh water and the fact that they possess Weberian ossicles (an anatomical structure originally made up of small pieces of bone formed from four or five of the first vertebrae); the most anterior bony pair is in contact with the extension of the labyrinth and the posterior with the swimbladder. The function is poorly understood but it is presumed that this structure takes part in the transmission of vibrations from the swimbladder to the labyrinth and in the perception of sound, which explains why the Ostariophysi have such a great capacity for hearing. Most cypriniformes have scales and teeth on the inferior pharyngeal bones which may be modified in relation to the diet. Tribolodon is the only cyprinid genus which tolerates salt water, although there are several species which move into brackish water but which return to fresh water to spawn. All of the other cypriniformes live in continental waters and have a wide geographical range. Some consider all cyprinid fishes carp, and the family Cyprinidae itself is often known as the carp family. In colloquial use, however, carp usually ...

Fish of the day Ep.9 Tiger barbs Tinfoil barbs and gold barbs
mastermindnews- New fish of the day. Tiger barbs, Tinfoil barbs, and Gold barbs The tiger barb or sumatra barb, is a species of tropical freshwater fish belonging to the Puntius genus of the minnow family. The natural geographic range reportedly extends throughout the Malay peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo, with unsubstantiated sightings reported in Cambodia. Tiger barbs are also found in many other parts of Asia, and with little reliable collection data over long periods of time, definite conclusions about their natural geographic range versus established introductions are difficult. Tiger barbs may sometimes be confused with Puntius anchisporus, which are similar in appearance. The tiger barb can grow to about 7 centimeters long(2.75 in) and 3 centimeters wide,(1.18 in) although they are often smaller when kept in captivity. Native fish are silver to brownish yellow with four vertical black stripes and red fins and snout. The green tiger barb is the same size and has the same nature as the normal barb but has a green body. Albino barbs are a light yellow with four stripes just barely visible. The Tinfoil Barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) is a tropical Southeast Asian freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae. This species was originally described as Barbus schwanenfeldii by Pieter Bleeker in 1853, and has also been placed in the genera Barbodes and Puntius. The specific epithet is frequently mis-spelled schwanefeldii. Nowadays it is usually placed in the genus Barbonymus ...

gold fishes
The goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus) is a freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae of order Cypriniformes. It was one of the earliest fish to be domesticated, and is one of the most commonly kept aquarium fish. A relatively small member of the carp family (which also includes the koi carp and the crucian carp), the goldfish is a domesticated version of a less-colorful carp (Carassius auratus) native to east Asia. It was first domesticated in China more than a thousand years ago, and several distinct breeds have since been developed. Goldfish breeds vary greatly in size, body shape, fin configuration and coloration (various combinations of white, yellow, orange, red, brown, and black are known)

Red Cheek Barb - Great Dither Fish
Red Cheek Barb - Great Dither Fish
The Red Cheek Barb (Puntius orphoides) is an uncomman barb in the aquarium trade. Very hardy and durable species (similar to the tinfoil barb), excellent choice for large aquarium and great tank mate for large fish. I would recommend keeping this species in a minimum 4 foot tank as they are very active and require a good amount of swimming space. Very peaceful fish and non-aggressive with its own kind. The red cheek barb is also a very fast grower, mine grew from 2inches to 8 in a very short amount of time. Comman Name : Red Cheek Barb Scientific Name : Puntius orphoides Family: Cyprinidae Origin : South East Asia, Malaysia and Indonesia Size : 10 inches / 25 cm PH : 6.5 - 8 ( very hardy, never experienced issue with pH) Temperature : 74-82 F Temperament : Peaceful www.movewithmarcus.com
