The day before your guests arrive, put all the ingredients — glasses, gin, and shaker — in the refrigerator. Use a thermometer to make sure the ice is about twenty degrees below zero (centigrade). Don't take anything out until your friends arrive; then pour a few drops of Noilly Prat and half a demitasse spoon of Angostura bitters over the ice. Shake it, then pour it out, keeping only the ice, which retains a faint taste of both. Then pour straight gin over the ice, shake it again, and serve. The making of a dry martini should resemble the Immaculate Conception, for, as Saint Thomas Aquinas once noted, the generative power of the Holy Ghost pierced the Virgin's hymen "like a ray of sunlight through a window — leaving it unbroken." (from the Luis Buñuel's book "My Last Sigh")

Luis Buñuel's recipe for a dry martini - from "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie"
This clip is RATED "C' for CIVILIZED The following edit from "Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie" illustrates Luis Buñuel's own recipe for a dry martini. I edited out the "sex scene" out because it distracts the viewer from the far more important matter of mixing a "civilized" martini. Beer guzzlers should only view this video in the company of a well-attired person who is fluent in French.

A szabadság fantomja - Luis Bunuel
The Phantom of Liberty is one of the most audacious and unconventional films in cinema history. Directed by Luis Buñuel, The Phantom of Liberty may very well be the most accomplished, ambitious and surrealist work of his 54-year film career. Indeed, this is a film that comprehensively challenges traditional narrative conventions. At the same time, the film deals with a variety of transgressive subjects and presents an intense criticism against established social institutions. It is a complex, paradoxical, subversive and radical film, which has promoted endless debates and encouraged a variety of readings. 104 perc, 1974 rendező: Luis Bunuel forgatókönyvíró: Luis Bunuel, Jean-Claude Carriére operatőr: Edmond Richard vágó: Hélene Plemiannikov szereplő(k): Adriana Asti (prefektusok nővére) Julien Bertheau (első prefektus) Michel Piccoli (második prefektus) Jean-Claude Brialy (Mr. Foucauld) Monica Vitti (Mrs. Foucauld) Adolfo Celi (Dr. Pasolini) English subtitle can be downloaded: subscene.com

A burzsoázia diszkrét bája - Luis Bunuel
The 'Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie' is a 1972 surrealist film directed by Luis Buñuel and written by Jean-Claude Carrière in collaboration with the director. The film was made in France and is mainly in French, with some dialogue in Spanish. The film concerns a group of upper-class people attempting — despite continual interruptions — to dine together. The film received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and a nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The film consists of several thematically linked scenes: five gatherings of a group of bourgeois friends, and the four dreams of different characters. The beginning of the film focuses on the gatherings, while the latter part focuses on the dreams, but both types of scenes are intertwined. There are also scenes involving other characters, such as two involving a Latin American female terrorist from the fictitious Republic of Miranda. The film's world is not logical: the bizarre events are accepted by the characters, even if they are impossible or contradictory. English subtitle can be downloaded: www.allsubs.org
