The Serenade, after Plato: Symposium, for solo violin, strings and percussion is a five-movement concerto written by Leonard Bernstein in 1954. For the Serenade the composer draws inspiration from Plato's Symposium, a dialogue of related statements in praise of love, each statement made by a distinguished speaker. The seven speakers who inspired Bernstein's five movements are:
Although the Serenade is scored for violin, strings, harp and percussion (timpani and five more percussionists playing side drum, tenor drum, bass drum, triangle, suspended cymbal, xylophone, glockenspiel, chimes, Chinese block, tambourine), the violin is the most prominent solo instrument. The work can therefore be considered a violin concerto.
The composition is about a half hour in length.
"Serenade" is a song by the Spanish rock band Dover. Written by Cristina Llanos, the track was released in 1997 as the first single from the band's second studio album, Devil Came to Me (1997). This song was the first single that also became his first number one because of its rhythms and catchy chorus. It is the most chanted song in their concerts, making it an anthem for this group.
The singer, guitarist and composer of the theme, Cristina Llanos, admits it's the most personal song she ever wrote. She is usually very shy and reserved and wanted to talk about it in this song, "asking" help to stop being so.
The music video for this song was made by Juan Bullón, a friend of the band with who they previously worked in the video for "Come With Me" from the first album "Sister".
Neil Diamond's second album for Columbia Records, and his ninth studio album Serenade, was released in 1974. Three singles were lifted from the album: "Longfellow Serenade" (#5), "I've Been This Way Before" (#34) and "The Last Picasso". The album was also issued as a quadraphonic LP with some songs as alternate takes.
All tracks composed by Neil Diamond.
Ultravox (formerly known as Ultravox!) are a British new wave band, formed in London in 1974 as Tiger Lily. Between 1980–86, they scored seven Top Ten albums and seventeen Top 40 singles in the UK, the most successful of which was their 1981 hit "Vienna".
The band has been led by two different frontmen who never played together in the band at the same time. From 1974 until 1979, singer John Foxx was frontman and the main driving force behind Ultravox. Foxx left the band to embark on a solo career and, following his departure, with the three remaining members in hiatus, Midge Ure took over as lead singer, guitarist and frontman in 1980 after he and keyboardist Billy Currie worked in the studio project Visage. Ure revitalised the band and steered it to commercial success lasting until the mid-1980s. Ure left the band in 1987 after establishing his own solo career and the group disbanded for a while. A new line-up, led by Currie, was formed in 1992, but achieved limited success.
The band's best-known line-up of Currie, Ure, bassist Chris Cross and drummer Warren Cann reformed in 2008 and performed a series of reunion shows in 2009 and 2010 before releasing a new studio album, Brill!ant, in May 2012. In November 2013, Ultravox performed as special guests on a four date UK arena tour with Simple Minds.
Ultravox may mean:
Ultravox or Ultravox Media On Demand Server (UltraMODS), is a streaming video project by AOL. The goal is to create something like SHOUTcast but for routers, so that the data is handled much better, can handle more users efficiently, and channel changing is much faster.
Certain streams made available by Shoutcast use Ultravox. AOL Radio has since moved to a non-streaming "beamcast" approach to music listening as of late Summer 2008. CBS Radio stations featured on AOL Radio use a variety of streaming methods not limited to Ultravox.
This format uses uvox URLs, and can be viewed in Winamp. Nullsoft is reportedly helping AOL create Ultravox. Nullsoft also released Nullsoft Streaming Video, which is streamed over Ultravox software.
Michael Wise is on the ISMA Board of Directors, and is reported as being actively involved in AOL’s streaming technology planning. In an effort to drive interoperability and lower distribution costs, he and his team are now working to standardize key parts of Ultravox, AOL’s own streaming technology platform.
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
Serenade, the gift that we bring
Serenade, youth runs wild with the beat in their hearts
Dance a wild dance, be torn apart
Voices ringing in their heads
Their crashing hands in time
In sequence and in rhyme
The chant of a thousand-fold
The song of a million strong
Echoes their perfect praise
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
Serenade, the gift that we bring
Serenade, youth runs wild with the beat in their hearts
Dance a wild dance, be torn apart
From the mouths of babes and fools
Hunted melodies
With gracefulness and ease
Compose their gifted words
Orchestrate their moves
Echo the perfect praise, serenade
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
Serenade, the gift that we bring
Serenade, youth runs wild with the beat in their hearts
Dance a wild dance, be torn apart
Prophets tell the tale
The legend and the lies
The fable and the rhymes
The chant of a thousand-fold
The song of a billion strong
Echoes the perfect praise, serenade
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
Serenade, the gift that we bring
Serenade, youth runs wild with the beat in their hearts
Dance a wild dance, be torn apart
In rhythm and swing
The gift that we bring
Youth runs wild with the beat in their hearts
Dance the wild dance, be torn apart
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
Serenade, in rhythm and swing
