"Macbeth" - Dench/McKellen -1979, Trevor Nunn, Dir.
At Inverness: Lady Macbeth reads of her husbands prophetic interlude with the "weird sisters". Upon his arrival she has already prepared herself to encourage his ambitions in every way that love and devotion are blind. Aside from being an unbelievably powerful performance, it can stand unmatched as a "Shakespearean Master Class"...verse speaking doesn't get any better than this.

Antonio/Bassanio - Hallelujah
Slashy vid of Antonio/Bassanio from Trevor Nunn's Merchant of Venice, set to Rufus Wainwright's Hallelujah. Lyrics: I've heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you She tied you To a kitchen chair She broke your throne, she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Maybe I've been here before I know this room, I've walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew you I've seen your flag on the marble arch love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah There was a time you'd let me know What's real and going on below But now you never show it to me do you? Remember when I moved in you? The holy dark was moving too And every breath we drew was hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Maybe there's a God above And all I ever learned from love Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you It's not a cry you can hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah

THE AD-DRESSING OF CATS You've heard of several kinds of cat And my opinion now is that You should need no interpreter To understand our character You've learned enough to take the view That cats are very much like you You've seen us both at work and games And learnt about our proper names Our habits and our habitat But how would you ad-dress a cat? So first, your memory I'll jog And say: A cat is not a dog Now dogs pretend they like to fight They often bark, more seldom bite But yet a dog is, on the whole What you would call a simple soul The usual dog about the town Is much inclined to play the clown And far from showing too much pride Is ...

Kiss Me, Kate
FESTIVAL THEATRE NOW PLAYING - 1 SEPTEMBER 2012 01243 781312 WWW.CFT.ORG.UK/KISSMEKATE At the out-of-town try-out of a new musical version of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, sparks fly on stage and off as sparring between the co-stars threatens the opening night. In a classic show-within-a-show, over which loom two gun-toting gangsters with gambling debts to collect, Lilli and Fred's romantic shenanigans offstage tangle with the onstage story of Kate and Petruchio as their two worlds dizzyingly collide. Cole Porter's dazzling score is shot through with wit, charm and a great charge of Broadway energy. Effervescent, inventive and unashamedly romantic, it includes Too Darn Hot, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, Another Op'nin', Another Show, So In Love Am I and Always True to You (In My Fashion). Cole Porter's musicals include Anything Goes and Can-Can. Trevor Nunn has directed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Cyrano de Bergerac for Chichester and has been Artistic Director of both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. Stephen Mear has choreographed How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Music Man, Funny Girl and She Loves Me (which he also directed) for Chichester. His West End work includes Mary Poppins, Hello, Dolly! and Crazy For You. Kiss Me, Kate is co-produced with The Old Vic.

Memory from "CATS" (Guitar Instrumental Version)
Here is my instrumental cover of the song "Memory" from the musical "CATS" which was written by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and based on the book "Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats" by TS Eliot. The lyrics were completed by director Trevor Nunn. The show opened in London in 1981 and went on to Broadway in 1982. The song was a hit single which went to #6 on the UK charts and was originally performed by Elaine Paige On this one, I played my Fender Stratocaster (Bridge Pickup) and a Zoom G2.1Nu unit programmed with Charlie Hall's EFTP (Echoes From The Past [Patch B6]). I recorded via USB to my laptop with Cubase and the backing was from www.ameritz.co.uk. I hope you enjoy my rendition

Twelfth Night: Or what you will - Part 1
IMDB Brother and sister Viola and Sebastian, who are not only very close but look a great deal alike, are in a shipwreck, and both think the other dead. When she lands in a foreign country, Viola dresses as her brother and adopts the name Cesario, becoming a trusted friend and confidante to the Count Orsino. Orsino is madly in love with the lady Olivia, who is in mourning due to her brother's recent death, which she uses as an excuse to avoid seeing the count, whom she does not love. He sends Cesario to do his wooing, and Olivia falls in love with the disguised maiden. Things get more complicated in this bittersweet Shakespeare comedy when a moronic nobleman, Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and a self-important servant, Malvolio, get caught up in the schemes of Olivia's cousin, the obese, alcoholic Sir Toby, who leads each to believe Olivia loves him. As well, Sebastian surfaces in the area, and of course there is Feste, the wise fool, around to keep everything in perspective and to marvel, like we the audience, at the amazing things happening all around.
